HI NYDIA!

Good for you, girl!! I did Atkins many years ago and found that I did lose weight but it's not a lifestyle I can live with. I'm just not a big meat-eater and really don't like eggs much. The cheese, however, was da bomb!!! I recently started calorie counting and have been losing weight with it. I also go to the gym regularly. As far as how many calories you want to take it, there is an easy formula to follow. Take your body weight and times it by 8 to get the lowest amount of calories you should have, or by 12 for the highest amount of calories you should have. Anything amount of calories in that range should put you in a weight-loss zone. Obviously, if you go lower you may lose quicker, but be wary of going less than you are supposed to. I have my calorie target at the lowest end of the scale, that way if I go over a little or miscalculate I am still in the 'zone' to lose weight. But do what works best for you. Hope that helps!! GOOD LUCK! And message me whenever you need a little support

Sincerely,
Angela

Angela ~~ I just did that calculation and it came out very high even on the lower end! I don't understand how I will lose weight with the lower end at 1920 and the higher end at 2880? Any help please...

For me, I think of fat as being a problem mainly because it contains such a high calorie cost. Therefore, I don't so much as go with a set number, as I have replaced all of the "normal fat level" foods with their lower fat versions (when possible). 1% milk (yes, I know too high for some, but I just can't stomach skim), evaporated milk, extra lean ground beef and pork (and cuts), low fat soft cheeses and sour cream, etc etc etc. By using these items in my cooking, I can then use the saved calories to spend in other areas, and I've been very happy to find that I am enjoying my recipies as much as I ever have.

My only exception: when a recipe wants butter (especially in baking) I use butter, I just keep an extra strict eye on the portions.

Not that I am saying this will work for you, but it certainly works for me.

Good morning everyone! Well I don't know whats wrong but when I usually wake up I feel good about myself. I weight 170 but I would feel skinny because I knew I was on the Atkins. But now since I did the switch over when I woke up I felt fat. I feel like just staying on the Atkins until I have lost atleast 15 more pounds. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Let me get this straight...you were doing Atkins Diet and you switched to a Low Calorie Diet just yesterday, and this morning you feel fat??? My only suggestion is that it is all in your head. You didn't get fat over night because you switched diets! impossible!

Maybe it would help to remind yourself that, when all is said and done, Atkins IS a low-calorie diet. All diets (that work) are... there is just no way around the rules of biochemistry and physics.

The most important decision you need to make is which life-style: Atkins, calorie counting, or any of the others is one that you will be able to continue with for the rest of your life and maintain health and happiness.

Personally, I find that I have psychological "fat" and "thin" days all of the time. The "thin" days are great, the "fat" ones bite, but all of them are just in my head, and I don't let them sway my determination to see this through.

And, believe me, there are plenty of "super-thins" out there who have never been over-weight one day of their lives who have "fat" days, too.

I would disagree that Atkins is always a low-calorie diet. It depends on what you eat. I lost 100 lbs in about 8 months doing Atkins, but I was eating about 3200 calories a day - mostly protein. I tracked the calories just for the heck of it.

I ate 3 eggs scrambled in butter with 4-5 slices of bacon for breakfast. Lunch was either 2 or 3 chicken breasts or 2 hamburger patties with cheese or a 12 oz steak with salad topped with cheese and bacon and hard-boiled egg with full fat-salad dressing.

Dinner was usually a very large 16 or 24 oz steak or 4 pork chops or 12 oz of salmon with a salad -- the salad would have cheese and bacon bits and full-fat dressing.

I lost my next 45 lbs eating 1700 calories a day and it's coming off a whole lot slower. But I can eat fruit.

I tried Atkins before, but couldn't handle it! I much prefer to eat everything in moderation, and that way you don't feel like you can't have something.

I'm a bit leary of the 8x and 12x thing (although it has turned out to be pretty accurate a few times that I've noticed) Because I worry about generalizations. We always try to convince folks to find what works for them, ya know?
However, my point was that it actually worked for Susanhockeyfan too. 390 lbs times 8= 3120 or times 12 =4680 ... I think. I'm not much good with math and I might have missed something.
