Big Fat Question??

  • No really I have a question about fat! I was wondering what percentage of your daily calories is recommended. I use calorie king to record all of my food and it recommends under 30% but...I usually run right around that. I don't know what to do differently. All of the fat I eat is healthy fats..such as olive oil, smart balance light(for cholesterol), nuts,.. so is right around 30% okay? Thanks for any input!....Blyn
  • Yes, they recommend you get no more than 30% of your total calories per day from fat and no more than 10% of that should be saturated.
  • From what I understand, sounds like you're doing fine, especially with the kinds of fat you're eating. I try to keep at or under 30% too. You may not need to change anything!
  • Thanks girls...I probably won't change anything its just sometimes you need confirmation especially when the stupid scale is stuck! grrrrrrrrrr....
  • Wow, I actually didn't know that mattered. (I am new to this)

Hmm, looks like I have some changes to make.
  • The problem with fat calories is that they add up fast and have no nutrients in them. I agree that they do have value, you body needs some. That's well proven. I have found that skipping added fats really brings calories down easily. I try for 20% and usually end up over.
  • For your fat calories, nuts are the best way to go. They are full of nutrition, taste yummy and are good for you. Other sources of fat that also have nutritional value are olives, avocado, and shredded unsweetened coconut.
