I have a system going where I allow myself unlimited fresh, raw fruit and veggies and I don't bother counting the calories they contain...I just count everything else I have in a day. Except for yesterday (I was sick, at home, and I must have eaten almost 3000 calories ), I've been doing really good at staying beneath my total daily recommended intake.
Does anyone else do anything similar to this? Do you think its ok? I'd really appreciate your feedback!
If it's working ... sure, stick with it. The nice thing about having a 'loose idea' is that if you slow down or stop, you can tighten it up. Did that make sense?
I count fruit, just because I have to do insulin for it anyway. Veggies, however, I don't bother with. I don't concern myself with the number of calories in fruit, I'm just aware that they are in fact there. Veggies are mostly water, and they have fiber, and so low in cals, that I don't see the point of using my brain power to count. If it works, don't fix it.
I think there are others who don't count veggies either. Personally I count mine, more as an incentive to eat more of them. They tend not to add up to much so I'm sure it's not hurting you not to count them, and if that makes you feel like you can eat more than go for it.
I don't count them. I've got IBS-Diarrhea and I eat all the fiber I can get. Yeah, fruit's got a lot of carbs, but so does cake. Frankly, when I crave sweet, I'd rather get the carbs from fruit and not cake, pie, or pastas. Good luck to you!!

I'm with you blues4miles!
As for the original question, I believe one of the weight watchers plans allows pretty much as much veggies as people want (except for things like corn), or that veggies are somehow built in. Fruit, as others mentioned, can be high in sugar, so they do count that.
Personally, I think whatever works for you! You might want to check from time to time that you aren't getting more calories from them than you think you are.
I tend to count my fruit since even a large banana can have over 150 calories, so it adds up pretty fast! I don't bother with most veggies, though (corn and potatoes, yes, since they are so starchy). I mostly just have spinach and broccoli as my veggies, and they contain so few calories that I don't usually worry about them. I do include them in my Fitday, though, so I have a more accurate idea of whether or not I am meeting mutritional requirements for vitamins and minerals and whatnot
I always count fruit, since I know their calorie-counts can add up quickly. I count all my veggies, too, but mostly just because I like seeing them on there. So, even a piece of greenery with .42 cals shows up in my Fitday.
