If you can't pack a supper to take with you in the morning (like a sandwich, fruit, yogurt, etc.), a trip through McDonald's wouldn't KILL you, just don't order the Big Mac. A regular hamburger has 260 calories and a fruit and yogurt parfait (no granola) has 130 calories for a total of 390 calories. Or a hamburger and small fries would be 490 calories.

As long as it isn't a daily thing, you can still eat fast food.

Kimberly

PS. You play poker as a second job? You must be GOOD. (Note to self, don't ever play poker with BingleBug.)

Morning All :).

Thanks for looking at my Fitday SusanB, I'm not feeling overly tired although this past couple of days I've been really hungry on a morning even after breakfast. It is coming up to TOM though so that might be it.

I will listen to my body as you suggested, especially with me taking on this new plan at the gym. If I feel tired I'll up the cals!

I don't have a deficit for the weekend, my eating wasn't great or planned well so I wobbled about a bit for sure!

Have a good day all.

hehe Nooo, sorry, I said that badly. We go play poker AFTER my second job. I'd love to play for a living though :)

That's a good point, too, Kimberly, and one I need to remember. It doesn't have to be all or nothing. I could pack something to eat in the car, but my fiance wouldn't be happy with that. He's a growing boy lol

A friend at work just told me I'm looking slimmer. Woo hooo :D

BingleBug 01-30-2006 02:44 PM

I think I killed the thread :o

I just have to vent for a minute . . . I'M HUNGRY! :?: I was starving this morning, ate lunch, then was STUFFED. After lunch, I went for my 1/2 hour walk, and now I'm starving again. I must be defective lol

KimberlyinMN 01-30-2006 02:57 PM

Well.... I have to say that I am NOT hungry. :) I had my normal breakfast of cheerios, yogurt and a banana. About mid-morning I was hungry for ice cream. The ONLY fast food place in town happens to be a Dairy Queen. So... I went out to their website and compared the calories of a small cone and a dilly bar. The dilly bar won with 10 calories less (220) plus it had the chocolate coating. At noon I drove there and got my dilly bar and came back home. I told myself that I had to eat lunch first. I had a ham sandwich with fat free cheese on light Italian bread plus one ounce of baked Cheetos. Yummy! I waited about 10 minutes and decided that I wanted the dilly bar. I have 1026 calories to spend for the rest of the day. I think we're going to have grilled chicken salads for supper tonight.

Maybe you should save 1/2 your lunch to eat after you walk?? Or a piece of fruit? I do NOT like being hungry. Some days I wait too long to have lunch and I start feeling all kitty-wonker - which is crazy because I work from home. I don't have to wait for any reason to have lunch. :)

Kimberly

grapecoffee 01-30-2006 04:23 PM

mmmm Dilly Bar... Do they have Star Kisses at your DQ? When I moved to Mass. from Indiana I had to leave my sweet, sweet Star Kisses behind. Of course, FIL thinks I am making them up. DQ is his favorite place on Earth. When they are closing up shop for the winter he goes and buys out their Buster Bars.

KimberlyinMN 01-30-2006 04:27 PM

Hmmm.. I don't know. They do have a HUGE freezer section of pre-wrapped stuff (like the dilly bars), so they might have them. I just went out to the Dairy Queen website... StarKisses only have 80 calories EACH!! I'm going to have to find out if our DQ has them. ;)

Kimberly

Kamily828 01-30-2006 04:36 PM

What exactly is a StarKiss? I always wondered what a Dilly Bar was until one day the kids got one. They like the butterscotch flavor.

I always loved the cheesecake blizzards until I started eating better. OMG those things are loaded with calories.

KimberlyinMN 01-30-2006 04:49 PM

I haven't saw or thought of one until grapecoffee mentioned them... so I'll leave the description to her. :)

Meh - had a blip this morning. Scales went back up to to 200.4!! I'm womanfully ignoring it and putting it down to TOM. I did my exercise video this evening so hopefully will see a change for the better tomorrow.

My deficit yesterday was 1309 and today it was 1523.

I just had a thought as to why my weight loss is more during the week and seems to slow down at weekends. It's because I'm not working at weekends and I spend more time sitting around watching TV rather than running round a classroom and up and down stairs! But Nutridiary doesn't factor in that when it works out my average activity levels - it must average it out over the weekend. but it makes sense. I can lose 2.5 lbs from Monday to Thursday and then only 0.5 Friday to Monday! I'm not eating more so I must be burning less.

Still, so long as it's a loss overall, it doesn't matter - but it was puzzling me.

srmb60 01-30-2006 06:43 PM

Welcome Jenny, it's good to see you here. I'll have a look at you fitday in just a minute here.
Hi everyone! I did not get my day off. I got called in at 6 this morning. I do not feel a whole lot better. I had peanutbutter and honey on toast for supper. It's all I wanted and it's sitting down there pretty well, so I'll just have to forget the calories for today. I'll try to do better tomorrow, depending how my stomach feels. But I really am off Wednesday and am really looking forward to that.

srmb60 01-30-2006 06:45 PM

Jenny? Can you bump up the protein and have some more veggies? Adding protein will help with that being sooo hungry soon after eating.

grapecoffee 01-30-2006 10:40 PM

A Starkiss is a sort of fruity sherbet/frozen slush puppy child. :) It's frozen into the shape of a star and stuck on a stick. You just have to eat one and for 80 calories the thing is huge.

Kamily828 01-30-2006 10:50 PM

Thanks. I'll see if our DQ sells them.

BingleBug 01-31-2006 08:25 AM

:D Good Morning!

Overall, I think I did fairly well yesterday. I walked twice - in the morning and at lunch. My calories were at about 1450 for the day. My fiance ended up bringing me Thai Fried Rice (with chicken, yum!) for dinner. It's not what I would have chosen, but it was sweet of him to think of me. I ate it in the car running from one place to another, and only ate half.

One of my friends here at work told me yesterday that I look slimmer. I like that word! I feel lighter somehow, but maybe that is just because I just finished my cycle. I don't want to get excited too soon. I do know for sure that the more I walk, the less it hurts to walk. That's a good thing :carrot:

Susan, what other kinds of protein should I have? I added the low-fat cottage cheese in there just for the protein (even though I hate it lol). Besides that, I have an egg, skim milk, and low-fat turkey lunch meat. The veggies I can definitely do!

I can't wait until my scale gets here . . .

Susan, I hope you get a chance to rest soon. I know how exhausting it can be! Hope everyone has a great day, and I'd love to keep chatting :)

dgpebbles 01-31-2006 08:44 AM

Hey everyone...sorry I've been MIA but I'm running 2 stores right now and I barely having time to get in my exercise...but I am doing good..down 1 more lb from last week and size in pants...so I'm feeling good...

How is everyone else doing? hope everyone is melting that ugly fat away...see you all soon

LynneA 01-31-2006 08:52 AM

Good Morning all :).

I had a deficit of 724 yesterday. I ate well with 1641 cals I did great at the gym though yesterday. My legs feel so tired this morning! Today is rest from exercise day so I will likely have a smaller deficit tomorrow.

BingleBug 01-31-2006 09:31 AM

I had a deficit of 1262 yesterday, even after I added sleep to my activities (which reduced my BMR). Does this seem right?

Way to go, dgpebbles. It must be so satisfying to grab that smaller size!

Lynn, what kind of routine do you do at the gym? I'd love to get back in to it, if only I could find time to go :dizzy:

LynneA 01-31-2006 11:12 AM

Hi Binglebug :). I've just started a new plan at the gym, circuit training 3 x a week which involves 25 - 40 mins of running on the treadmill then onto weights. I do 2 sets of weights on various machines with 15 reps per machine. I'm also planning to run my first 5k in May so will start a running training plan sometime early March.

Prior to that I was doing interval training on the treadmill 3 x week for about 30 mins each time followed by weights.

1262 seems to me like a high deficit but if you are doing lots of activity then I can see you getting that. Have you set your activity level on fitday to sedentary (bed bound)? I know that helps fix numbers to make them look more realistic.

BingleBug 01-31-2006 11:26 AM

I just changed it to sedentary, and it changed by about 500 calories. Either way, I have a deficit and that is good :)

That sounds like a great routine! Do you enjoy it?

LynneA 01-31-2006 11:50 AM

I really enjoyed it yesterday, of course that was my first day on it too so we'll see how it goes. I tend to get bored easily so might change it up after a couple of months. This plan does seem like a challenge though and I love challenges.

Fitday is a funny old thing, I had to fiddle with my settings quite a bit before I got numbers that made sense to me. SusanB is the Fitday guru though, she'll set you right if you have any concerns :).

grapecoffee 01-31-2006 01:23 PM

I had a deficit of 623. I need to get some fudgesicles or something. I need chocolate. :) WTG BingleBug! By the way, I love Chicago.

srmb60 01-31-2006 04:45 PM

A fitday guru? I dunno bout that. I practice a lot:)
I think the safest thing to do is start with bedridden or sedentary (whichever it's called) and figure in only strenuous activity, like exercise or active work.

When you have a few sort of common days, take the time to start with bedridden and add all of your activities, housework, showering, shopping etc. If that comes out to about 'standing work' you can change it and stop adding every little thing. Mine works out about right if I start with seated work and only add vigorous activity like work, exercise, stacking wood ...

Ah protein! How I love to promote protein! Tuna, egg whites, skinless chicken, fish, protein powder ... You'll think of ways to hide cottage cheese. It's just such a fabulous food.

:carrot: Wa-Hoo!!:carrot:

I weighed in at TOPS today and I lost another 2 pounds!! That's seven pounds total including my unofficial weigh-in last week of 5 pounds lost. I was the "loser of the week" because technically I lost 7 pounds from the last actual meeting. Well, I think I still would have been the loser of the week with my two pound loss.

What's kind of weird is that for all of the times I've been on Weight Watchers, I've never lost this much in two weeks (or more). I think with counting calories, I am much more aware of what I'm eating. I wonder if it helps that I have a "budget" of 1860 instead of 31?

I was hoping that at my podiatrist appointment today, the good doctor would have switched me back to my sneakers and the new orthotics (which, by the way, cost $400!!!). Nope.. now I get to go to physical therapy for my foot. Oh well, the cami-walker (boot thing) makes my foot feel MUCH better so I am not going to complain too much. I was just looking forward to getting on the treadmill or exercise bike. Right now the only exercise I get is hobbling to the bathroom!! Oh, and playing fetch with my non-stop westie Abby. My schnauzer Dexter has been hit too many times accidentally so he stands BEHIND me now.

 That is the case for me. It's more "real" for some reason? What did you do to your foot? You're doing great diet wise if you can lose all that weight (7 pounds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) without exercise!

BingleBug - depending on how much you weigh that sounds like a good deficit. I'm 100 pounds overweight, eat between 1,300-1,600 calories a day and my deficit runs on average 1,000 calories a day - some higher and some lower. I need a minimum of 700 calorie deficit/day to lose 2 pounds a week.

1dayatatime 01-31-2006 06:13 PM

Yay, Kim! :cheer:

KimberlyinMN 01-31-2006 06:27 PM

I was hanging valances in the kitchen and stepped off a kitchen chair. I had the step ladder on one end of the row of windows and a kitchen chair at the other. I waited about two months before I went to the doctor because I honestly thought that I had just done something to a tendon. Of course, this is from the same person who waited a month with leg pain only to find out I had a blood clot. Crazy! :dizzy: So... in a matter of about three months I find out I have: a blood clot, high cholesterol, and a fractured bone in my foot. THAT is why I have decided that I have to get this weight off. My other "reason" is to have way more fun in the bedroom. (And I'm not talking about hanging mini-blinds - although we do need to do that.) ;)

Do you all want to start a new thread for February?

Nori71 01-31-2006 08:54 PM

Good idea.

Kamily828 01-31-2006 08:58 PM

My deficit for today was 857.

LynneA 02-01-2006 07:31 AM

Good Morning All.

My deficit yesterday was 350, not bad considering I treated myself to some chocolate!

Have a good day everyone.

1dayatatime 02-01-2006 07:42 AM

My deficit yesterday was 418. It's been in the 700's and 900's this week and over the weekend - I just felt like a little snack while I did my sudoku puzzles before bed last night. :D THIS is why I love calorie counting! :cb:

I think a new thread is a great idea.

Robsia 02-01-2006 07:48 AM

OK - I'll start a new thread.

Edit: New thread is here

BingleBug 02-01-2006 07:54 AM

Good morning, ladies :)

Kimberly, Way to go on the loss - that's excellent! I'm so happy for you.

I just got my new scale last night and stepped up to find that I'd lost 8 LBs since the last time I weighed myself :carrot: I don't know if that's all from the past couple weeks (since the dawn of the new Jen lol), but I'll take it. So that's 8 down, 75-80 to go. :dizzy:

I played with my FitDay like you suggested, Susan, and it seems to make the most sense to stick with seated work, and then add some stuff.

My deficit yesterday was 1083. I've managed to walk every morning so far this week, and at lunch as well. I'm worried that walking isn't enough though :o Any thoughts, anyone?

Have a great day!

dgpebbles 02-01-2006 08:21 AM

Binglebug--congrats on the 8lbs..I also bougt a new scale but it show 1.5lbs more than my old scale and I just can't make myself go by the new one yet...I really need to though cause its weighs per .2 and my old one only does.5 lbs...walking is good exercise but it also depends on how long you walk and at what pace..

my deficit yesterday was 710 and mon was 869

new thread sounds good
