Good morning everyone.
Donna, it would be a little easier for me to knwo how much you weigh and what your goal is. Do you mind posting that? Or even a link to your fitday so I can nose into everything ;) Sassy cat? One day does not a diet break. Everybody 'loses it' once in a while. Learn from it, don't dwell on it and go on ahead. Let's just be more careful today. For yesterday, I have a deficit of 216. Hmmm better get busier today and apparently sherry at bedtime is a no no. |
Susan thanks I would love for you to take a look at my fitday...I could use all the advice I can get....I'm 36..my current weight is 189 and my goal weight is 140.
http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/PublicJ...wner=dgpebbles |
dgpebbles? I just got home from work and it's midnight here. I'll get back to you in the morning, OK? The only thing I see off the top of my head is more protein and I'd try for a less fat milk. I'll have a closer look in the am.
|
Yesterday was awesome! I had a 776 calories deficit. I did not eat any of the crap that's still sitting around at work! And I did not eat when I got home. I have several glasses of cold water. I was parched!
dgpebbles .... because we're small, I don't have a problem with hovering around 1200 calories. But you have to make sure it's big food with little calories. Green beans, salad, zucchini, tomatoes ... Try to get the carbs down. Replace some of them with vegetables and I'm sticking with my story on protein ... egg whites, protein powder, lean skinless chicken, tuna .... Is that workable? |
I freaked my daughter and her friends out today. They followed me around a grocery store :) I bought babyfood squash! They were mortified!
But it's a perfect portion of a vegetable that you would never take the time to prepare one serving of and it's conveniently packaged and it was only 39 cents! 40 calories if I recall correctly. I think I learned that from the Ladies Who Lift. |
Thanks Susan...i will work on it and see what happens....Where do you buy protein powder and what is a good brand...Also how do you use it? ...as a drink for do you use it in cooking? ....Sorry for all the questions but this is all new to me....
I still like to eat the desert baby foods but never tried the vegies..you have to tell us how it was.. |
I only had a 90 calories deficit yesterday. Considering how awkward it is to measure peanutbutter and honey  I'm not sure I even had that. If I was going to go back and change anything, it would probably be to add more cardio.
Donna ... I love questions ... as you have seen .... I just love to talk :comp: I use soy protein isolate from a bulk food store. I also have whey protein powder from the same place. Everything else is just too expensive for our socio-economic strata (is there a smiley for lower middle income taxpayer?) I put it in with fruit and water for a shake. You can also just add bits all throughout the day in oatmeal, yogurt, salad dressing, meatloaf or meatballs ... you name it. A tablespoon or so doesn't change the taste of what you are adding it to. I put left over turkey in a bowl and warmed it in the mike. I then added the squash and warmed it some more. I did add salt and pepper. It kinda made a gravey substitute, ya know? I suppose it would work like that for any of the vegetables. I enjoyed it and I felt good adding another kind of vegetable to my food plan. The desserts might be OK because the manufacturers are more cautious about how much crap they put in baby food. That and you'll have one neat and tidy little serving. I hope I've helped. Never fear asking questions! |
Yesterday I had a 777 calories deficit of which I am very proud.
Today I work evenings so I'll have to guard against the nurses nibbles later on! I'll be extra good before I go ;) |
Inspite of not guarding against the nurses nibbles (read here cookies and choclate) I still had a deficit of over 700 calories. We were busy!
I'm tired this morning! But I should be able to do legs before I go back to work at 3. |
:cb: for susanB!!!
|
Thanks Gina, I'm off to work again. Everyone be good!
|
7 days have passed since i Posted a 3 lb loss.........it is now 4lbs........well. really 7 days ago i had lost 2.5lbs evidently the slider doesn't keep up with 1/2's...........still 1.5 more gone!!!!
watching calories/dancing/ and drinking lots of water |
You go Christine! I regret that my tracker doesn't do half pounds too. Sometimes that little bit of a loss can be very encouraging.
I had a deficit of almost 400 calories yesterday. It should have been bigger but this box of chocolates was calling me .... |
Hey Susan..I want to say THANK YOU for your advice:hug: ...I've uped my protein intake and been eating more fruits and vegies ans my scale is finally moving.:) ..I can't tell you enough how much your help means to me...
I won't post my weight till weigh-in ..I can't wait...I'm excited again...I agree that very little bit counts .5lb or or even .2lb or even maintaining as long as it's not going up I have a deficit of 700 yesterday.....Well i did good yeaterday on eating but had to work late so I didn't get in any exercise... |
Donna, you're gonna make me cry. Honey, if you are losing weight ... it's all you! All your hard work and right thinking. I appreciate your thanks and am really touched that you think I had even a teeny part in it.
|
I had the drop I was looking for!
I know I've been good. I know I've been exercising. The time was coming and this morning I got my swoosh! A couple of pounds gone like magic. One of the most important things I've learned, here at 3fc, is that the truly successful long term losers and maintainers know their bodies. They understand their water fluctuations, food requirements and so on. Over time, I've worked at getting this knowledge logically in my head .... and by golly, i think I've got it. I knew this drop was coming. I didn't get discouraged when it took some time. I knew what was coming. My fat-headed advice for the day. Learn all you can about how YOUR body works. Oh and I had an 800 cal defict yesterday. |
Hi Susan and everyone,
I did so well over the holidays and after too, but the last 2 days I could eat the paint off of the walls. Been craving carbs and sugar. That hasn't happened for a long time. The only thing I can think of that I have done different is...I haven't been keeping my food journal like I should and I'm lacking in the water drinking department. I'm hoping that posting will give me the kick in the butt that I need to get back on track. How do you get the defict on your calorie counts. I'm doing Fitday or trying to. I haven't got it all figured out yet. Thanks for listening. TJ |
I just take the number of calories burned and subtract what I've eaten to get a deficit. I can't be hanging around here tonight. I'll type at you all tomorrow!
|
Wow I feel great....today was the first day that I have ever got up early and did exercise before going to work....I can't beleive how energized and alive I felt all day...I got up and did the biggest loser dvd....I am going to try to get in 30 mins on the bike tonight...
I had a deficit of 753 yesterday... Susan - Great job...wow 3lbs down from yesterday...Glad your scale is moving....We both become losers the same week....Also do you weight everyday..I notice on your fitday that your weight looks like you update it daily...I told myself I was only going to weight once a week but I just can't stand it...I have to weight everyday...to me it's like if I went down then I did something right and if I went up I did something wrong and I try to look over what I ate that was bad.. |
I had a 1000 calorie deficit yesterday which surprises me because I hardly did any cardio. But I was busy and didn't eat enough. I'll do better today.
TJ .... a couple of bad days won't ruin everything. For me the trick is getting back on track if I let those days turn into weeks (or months!) Get back at your jouranaling and come back and see us! Donna .... there are a couple of factors involved in why I weigh everyday. One, I'm a computer addict. I love it! I'm actually a pretty detaily person. I think that's why calorie counting appeals to me. I've been at this for a few years now and I find that Knowledge is one of the important keys, particularly knowledge of your own body. If I weigh everyday, I learn the ins and outs of water weight, the impact of salt etc. I find it much easier to address small problems than big ones. And some daily changes are natural and remedy themselves. If I weighed only once a week and there was an increase, I would drive myself nuts examining the entire week to find out what I did. If I have an increase one morning there is very little 'data' to go through to find the glitch. Did that make sense? Weighing everyday is not for everyone, but I like it. You just have to make sure you remove any variables. Get up, strip, void and step on the scale. Do not go back until you get up the next morning. |
Can I get into your group? I've tried every diet plan out there, but deep down inside I know the only way to loose weight and keep it off is to eat less than I burn. I've signed up on fitday and am going to give it a try. Need as much support as I can get. Hoping I can join you guys.
Beth |
Beth ... You are absolutely welcome here! Post often! Tell us your triumphs and .... the other stuff. We are more than happy to help.
Are you short too? :) |
well i weighed today and I'm down 2lbs..I'm so excited that it's finally moving...
I had an 1108 decifit yesterday but I did 2 workouts and also didn't eat but 1139 in calories..sometimes I just find it hard to eat that much.. Beth welcome you will find alot of help and support here Susan - I agree with you on the daily weighing..I do the same exact thing....weigh first thing every morning and look at what I ate and what exercises I did.. |
Hey guys, I'm new and would love to join you. I started counting calories Jan 3rd and im already down 8 pounds! I'm totally pumped.
General question.... do you guys weigh yourselves everyday? I know that you are not supposed to, but my weight flucuates so much, im nervous if i only weigh myself once a week or whatever that it will happen to be a 'fat day' as i like to call them, and that i will lose motivation! Anyway i'll kind of introduce myself. People just call me jazz really. I'm 23 and ever since i quit dancing, i have bloated up a little. I'm not trying to lose alot like some people on this site. Im a chocoholic and cookie monster and thats my biggest struggle! Well i guess i will talk to you all soon! Jazz |
I'd like to join. I've always counted calories in my head, but fitday will help me really track it. I'm starting tomorrow b/c I can't remember what I ate today. But I'm sure once I start I'll have plenty of questions.
I read the whole thread and I'm intrigued about this baby food thing lol |
Hi newbies! I'm doing a quick drive by because I'm on my way to bed. But I wanted to welcome you both. Keep reading there is soooo much to learn here at 3fc. And ask questions! We'll answer.
|
Ok so I bought some of the baby food and tried it on my sandwich that I took to work...I really liked it...It made it moist with a small kinda kick to it....I was just eating them dry cause I didn't want the extra fat...I used the mix veg flavor....I'm thinking about mixing it in tuna...Thanks Susan for the idea to use baby food as a sauce/gravy
|
Donna? .... for moistness on a sandwich! What a good idea! Clever way to sneak in an extra veggie, huh? I think I learned that from BFLcat.
I only had a 250 calories deficit yesterday. The only 'cardio' I did was housework. And in the evening I was starving! Jazz? ... I weigh myself everyday. But I'm a detail person. I get up, void, strip and step on the scale. I've learned a lot about how my body works with regard to hormones, water, salt ... |
Baby food in sandwichs?? Never heard of this before. Is this in replace of mayo? If it is i think i might try it. That is a really good idea. Baby food looks/smells so unapetizing though! YUCK heh :)
Thanks for the info Susan. I think ill weigh myself everyday then. So how many calories do u guys generally shoot for in a day? Or rather, what number do you try not to hit. |
Calories per day? You got me wondering so I went to fiday and got an average. For the past two weeks I'm averaging 1450 per day. Not bad!
My average deficit is around 400. I'm actually pretty happy with all that. |
 Hi everybody! I want to join y'all.
I started my diet on 1/4/06. I started a food diary on FitDay to keep track of everything Im eating. It sure has helped. Out of curiosity, I checked to see how many calories I was eating before the diet. It was around 3,000 a day. A lot of that was soft drinks. Those are gone now and Im averaging 1500 a day with healthier foods. :carrot: Im down 4 lbs!!!!! :goodscale |
Awesome Anita and welcome. Feel free to share your successes (and anything else) with us here. It's really a pretty nice little group.
|
Hi!
Well, I have decided to join this thread. I have been reading it for days, and thought I should take the plunge and commitment and just do it. I have been using fitday for a while, but one and off.. my goal is to use it every darned day. I started seriously trying to diet on Jan. 6. So I am relatively new here. Then managed to get sick and unmotivated for a few days.. so I in all actuality I am brand new. I am trying to figure out what my lifestyle should be on fitday so I can accurately calculate my calorie deficit. I work at an assisted living facility and am on the move all day (according to my pedometer I walk an average of 8 miles a day at work). |
Why not just set it at sedentary and input your activities everyday, including how long you walk at work? I checked on my fitday and no matter where you have your lifestyle set, entering walking 2.5 mph for 6 hours burns 762 calories. The activities number also lowers your lifestlye number as you can only count holding yourself upright once.
Personally, I would rather underestimate how many calories I'm burning and be pleased with unexpected weightloss rather than expect I should have lost 4 pounds and I've only lost 1 or 2. Welcome, btw!!! Glad to have you here! I've been considering posting my deficit here also - I just need to hurdle making it public. :) |
I totally endorse everything Carrie said!
And I welcome you both! Oh and Aimee? I use something under 'occupation' that actually has 'nursing' in it. It's probably pretty close to what you do too. Care-giving, lifting, walking ... ya know? |
evening everyone
It's been a really long day and I'm tired so we are going to the movies tonight...so I may not exercise today unless I have energy when I come home...I had a 1042 deficit yesterday but like I said earlier I didn't get all my calories in yesterday...but doing better today Jazz- yes I used it inplace of mayo..I didn't really taste it..it just kept my sandwich from being dry.. Flossygrl - welcome ..this i a great group here...ask any question you need...I'm also on my feet moving around from 8-10 hours aday...I set my lifestyle at sedentary and I add my work in as standing desk clerk..I agree with Carrie I would rather underestimate calories burned... anita - I love fitday...it helps alot to keep you on track....I am eating around 1200 calories a day..I am also adding protein powder to my food to up my protein intake..I don't eat alot of meat...I am eating alot of fruits & veggies though K well going to movies now ..I'll talk at you all later |
hmm.. I never noticed the occupation option. Pretty strange occupations, locksmith? book-binding?
I don't see nursing though. hmm.. how can they have "chinking a log cabin" and not nursing.. I must be missing something. |
oops.. I did find it..
ok.. so I am adding that to my activities on the days that I work.. and I also changed my lifestyle to sedentary. Hopefully, that will be a better gauge. I would rather be pleasantly surprised than royally pissed. So, my calorie deficit for today is 1,599. which does not seem right at all.. |
