That's good to know! I'm glad I posted here, I was ready to cancel my order for the book! I can't wait to get it. UPS is on the way today.

slimcharm 02-07-2006 09:31 AM

Bottomline ..the message in the book is to eat at maintenance calories and aim to eat healthy. You dont need to buy special food, over exercise, overdose on protein or eat fat free...You can pretty much pick how you want to eat your calories within reason and within the range of what works for you.
For example I know if I picked lots o carbs and not enough protein I would be stuffing my face and unable to stick to the recommended cals!
But the plan is so realistic and doable ..that its the big winner in my book!

I tried so many unhealthy diets. I am now trying a low calorie diet. But I am confused am I going to eat only things with calories and no fat grams. Or low fat grams with calories and if thats the case how will I count the calories

The gist of the Calorie Queen plan is that you DON'T have to starve yourself. Figure out what weight you want to be and multiply that by 12. Technically, don't even look at the fat grams. I say that because you need to eat some fat - although as the book states, you should focus on eating the healthier fats. I think we've discussed on this thread (or maybe it was another one), you could eat your day's worth of calories with donuts and still lose weight. But if you ate a variety of foods (fruit, vegetables, dairy, protein), your body would be much healthier. I would suggest that as you start out -- just count the calories. Once you get the hang of eating, for example, 1800 calories a day -- then maybe start focusing on eating foods that have more "bang for the buck".. or more nutrition for the calorie. That's the beauty of the Calorie Queens book. They've really de-mystified the process by spelling it out in normal words. None of that scientific mumbo-jumbo.

Kimberly

PS. A lot of people use fitday.com to track that food intake. Calorieking.com is a good site too -- I use that primarily for finding the nutrition info for some foods, but they also have a great pocket size calorie count book that you can get at Amazon.

slimcharm 02-11-2006 08:43 AM

I love Calorieking...very easy to use. I bought the desktop version for $30 and I also subscribed to the online..for $30. Renewals for online are about $20 per year.
You can record with the online version..I just like the desktop version. Also fantastic support there..lots of friendly people. They have a free trial also.

Hi everyone! I am on cloud 9 tonight. I have been speaking to "Jackie" from the book "Calorie Queens" in emails today! She is so sweet! And so helpful and inspirational! I went out to see if I could get the book in the stores today. But it is not sold in any of our local stores. There are pros and cons to living in the country. But I went on amazon as soon as I got home and ordered a copy! It should be here next week. I can't wait!

I am so excited about putting this book into my daily routine. I think this will be the kick my body needs to get it going and able to lose weight!

SLIMCHARM: I seen one of your posts on the calorie queens message boards. I have done many of the diets you have done! I have not had very much success! I have never been able to really lose weight with weight watchers yet! In the past 4 months (I believe it is) I have only losts 2 pounds by following that plan! The CQ site looks awesome!!! I do have a hard time being able to see what people wrote without struggle though. I mentioned that to Jackie to. So hopefully something can be done so blind people like me can see it better and enjoy it. :) What message boards do you find more beneficial (sp?) and supportive? I think they have boards on calorie king too. But don't you have to pay a fee for everything on there?

Anyway.... I can't wait to get to reading this book! Hopefully it arrives speedy fast! Amazon is normally pretty fast with there shipping. Hopefully sometime tonight I will be able to start at the beginning of this message board and look at all of the posts on here! There are tons!! But I want to learn as much as I can while I am waiting for my book to arrive. :)

Anyway.... good luck to all doing this! It sounds like a good way to go for success! ;)

Hi everyone!

My name is Lauren and I'd love to join this thread. The last time I actually suceeded at weight loss I did it through calorie counting (1700-1800/day), and I love being able to eat whatever I want as long as I count the calories! I too have tried every diet, and just recently realized that Atkins would never work for me again (I can't stick to that sad meat-filled existence), and couldn't bear to stick to the low calories on WW ( I'm just not OK with being hungry), and that none of those other "healthy" Mediterranean diets would work with my no-cooking self. I look forward to getting to know you all and reading all of the posts.

One question though, I'm going to eat around 1600-1800 cals/day, but when I get to my goal weight, I'm pretty sure this is going to be less than my maintenance calories. I mean, won't it be? Or am I mistaken?

KimberlyinMN 02-21-2006 08:37 AM

Technically, your goal weight should be maintained at the calories you are eating to lose the weight. For me, my goal weight is 150. 150 x 12 = 1800 calories. 1800 calories is what should maintain my goal weight. The number 12 is sort of a generic number that can be used by everyone, but it might not be totally accurate. For something to do, I was just reading the book "The Biggest Loser"... they said to use 6 as the multiplying factor. (But that a person should go below 1000 calories.) WHATEVER! I like my 1800 calories. :) I was reading the book more for motivation, not the actual diet. Emphasis on DIET, not way of life. They also said that during the weight loss competion, people exercised 5-6 hours a day (or more). That is not normal. (I wonder how long people will keep the weight off when they are at home and not exercising all day.) I think as a person gets closer to their goal weight, it will take longer to actually lose the last few pounds...

Welcome to the group!

Kimberly

PS. The Calorie Queens website now has a forum too. http://www.caloriequeens.com. You'll find a lot of us over there too.

1dayatatime 02-21-2006 02:54 PM

I don't know what season it was but I heard one of the losers on that show say "I feel good...I've exercised 21 hours this week" What!?!? I do good to get 21 minutes for a week. ;)

coley144 03-02-2006 08:41 AM

I've just got the book and am looking forward to reading it. I am worried about maintenance when I get there (see how determined I am to get there? :dizzy: ) so this sounds like a smart idea to me.

Question for all

Hey everyone :)

I'm new here, just getting started on the Calorie Queen diet.. Very excited about it so far :)! (and not hungry!!! :)

Anyway, I was wondering if someone could point me to the main Calorie Queen/Eucalorics forum/thread thing..... While reading over this one, I kept seeing messages about the "other calorie queen board"....

Where is it?

Thank you!!

Calorie Queens

Hello all. I joined the CQ site when it 1st started, but it won't let me in...LOL It says thank you for regersting....then goes right to "you are not registered". They think it might have to do with my cookies, but since other sites work, I don't want to mess up the puter for just one site.
The CQ plan makes lot of sense to me. Mostly,I'm counting cals, using Fitday & doing ok...slow, but ok. Pat C

TMunday 04-05-2006 09:52 AM

Hi Pat!!!

I remember you on the CQ site! We were talking about the print being so small and hard to read over there!!! :) I got my eyes checked and needed glasses. However, the site still is hard to read for me. But I think they are making changes to that soon.

I am not sure what is going on with there site over there. I never registered. I just used it as a guess to post on the larger text board we were on. Maybe it will work again soon for you.

I am also using fitday, however, I am hoping to get back on track soon! My hubby had surgery and we had a lot of house repairs done lately so I stopped keeping track of things.

Good luck to you! Keep in touch.
