sixty year old
Just wondering if there are other 60 year old ladies out there. would like to know about your success.

I noticed nobody responded so I thought I would say something. I aint 60 years old but my mom is 58 years old. Ive been trying to get her to come here and post. She works out with bad OA and shes lost 45 pounds. She treadmills 18 minutes a day and does her climb stepper for about 10 minutes a day. She works daily at her job cleaning.
She said that she's lost all her weight by becoming a veken (I doubt I spelled that right). There people that wont eat any type of animal or even wear animal. She eats a type of grain bread I think its called ezekial bread. She also eats those things called bogus burgers? She drink carrot and apple drinks daily, and bunches of veggies and fruit. She eats peanut butter for her protein. Anyways she said her bones have never felt any better. Her calorie intake is about 1200 daily at 5'0". She plans to be about 130lbs. Shes weighed in today at 152. Its been really hard for her so I call her up everyday and we walk together even though she uses her treadmil and I do my walking around my house. We inspire each other. I am 60. I do WW on my own. I don't go to meetings or online. I do go to the boards sometimes. Anyway, I started the end of July and I have lost 18 pounds. My weight is coming off slower now because I can't exercise much. I have arthritis in knees, feet and ankles. I joined a health club so I can start swimming but it hasn't opened yet. It will open on Sept 1. It is brand new. I am anxious to get started. I decided to lose weight because I am trying to avoid knee replacement surgery at least for a while. I have had many surgerys including some for cancer but this kind of surgery scares me for some reason.

WOW! You've done good also. Keep up the good work. I want mine to come off slow, so...I'm not in a hurry for it to come off. After I turned 50 I wanted things to slow down even my weight, LOL. it sure helps to be encouraged by others. you have diffinitly done very well yourself, when did you start this program? it seems like i come to a stand still, probably 4 days to 1 week at the same weight, i'm not doing anything different so what's the problem?others likely have the same thing happening to them.What calorie counter are you using? I use the calorie count method. i like it a lot.if you can prevent any kind of surgery that good.I'm sorry to hear about all your surgeries especially the latter.Hopefully with the weight lose you just may beable to prevent or prolong surgery.take to you again weight |
Hi - I'm a 60 year old sort-of success story. :lol: From 1999-2000 I lost about 70#, using WW and running. I maintained that loss for 2 years and then slowly gained much of it back. I'm in the process of - sigh - losing it again. However, I still consider myself a "success." I eat right - mostly - and exercise on a fairly regular basis, both :tread: and :wl: Keep up the good work!

I'm leaving for work, but wanted to try and get back to you. I started on December 31, 2004 and the only thing I've done different is the fact I don't eat animal products now. I make up my protein in other foods. After while, my desire for eating more than I was suppose to eat was gone. So...here I am! As far as a stand still, in all ways of cutting back on food consumption or changing your way of eating, we all run into a slow mode. But...I continue eating the same and in a few days to a week, I'm off and running, :) YEAH! Happy Trails to you my friend. bumpy47 |
Weight, the thing about maintenance is that it's no different from losing. :( You still need to count calories/points/whatever and you still need to exercise. Best you can hope for is a few more calories, or "getting away" with a treat or special meal. BUt on the whole, it's what you're doing to lose that needs to be your lifestyle if you want to keep it off permanently. All the maintainers on the Living Maintenance forum will agree. Sigh. Looks like you're doing well though. I need to lose about 50 more lbs to get back to where I was in the picture that's my avatar. Then we'll see. . .

good for you.yes I'm aware of the maintenance, it never stops. all I what to do is concentrate on the 20 lbs or so that needs to come off. I'll keep plugging away.slow ly will prevail. thanks Weight

60 Too!!!!!!!1Hi WEIGHT, I JUST TURNED 60 THIS SUMMER AND HAVE LOST 27-28 LBS BY COUNTING CALORIES. I USE A WEIGHT SCALE DAILY AND USUALLY END UP WITH TOO FEW CALORIES BY THE END OF THE DAY. (I GET FULL QUICKLY AND LOVE VEGETABLES) I EAT TOO MANY VEGETABLES, THEN DON'T HAVE ROOM FOR MY PROTEIN. MANY TIMES MY CALORIES ARE UNDER 1,000, THEN I HAVE TO FORCE SOMETHING DOWN TO REACH 1200 CALORIES. I FIND IT QUITE EASY TO LOSE WEIGHT, I JUST HAVE A HARD TIME KEEPING IT OFF ONCE I STOP COUNTING CALORIES.
P.S. HOW DO I CHANGE MY WEIGHT BAR ON THE BOTTOM? I'VE LOST A COUPLE OF POUNDS SINCE I SET THIS UP. BOBBI |

How long did it take for you to lose 28 lbs? that is awesome.funny you would ask me about the tracker bar, Iv'e been playing around with it for quiet a while and I'm diffinitely doing something wrong. My dd did it for my so i will ask her tomorrow and then get back to you. I also lost 1 lb. I'm thinking maybe I'm not eating enough calories, I'm opposite from you I can leave the veggies and eat protein but try not to do that.I have ordered a ww scale through my air miles and its not here yet, it will give me a true reading. it will likely read more than a regular scale because it should be accurate. weight |
Hi, I'm 58 and still working hard at this weight thing. Why does it have to be so hard? Why can't we crave lettuce instead of chocolate? Whinning over.....I know this is a permenant thing for me. I don't diet any longer, I try to eat healthy. I know in the long run diets don't work. I have lost most of my weight and only have a few more pounds to go, around 10. Fact is we just have to change the way we think about food and the way we eat. If we go back to the way we were eating before the "diet" we'll be right back to where we were in no time. I'm not willing to do that. I like being thinner and having more energy to play with my grandchildren. So this is something I'll have to do for a long time.

So nice to hear from someone my age! To Weight: Questions about losing 28 lbs. I've been horsing around for about a year. I dieted with a vengence last summer, then around Halloween, Thanksgiving & Christmas I ignored my diet and pigged out. I started again in March or so. My hubby and I celebrated our 40 anniversary yesterday, it's actually today the 12th. I ate everything that wasn't nailed down to the table, so my weight is up to 39.5 pounds this morning. You will love the new digital scales they have out now. I use mine everyday and it measures the calories in the food I weigh on it. WOW! To the slim me: I love chocolate too! I usually put a scoop of sugar free cocoa in my morning coffee or when I feel like a special treat. I only have a few pounds left to go also, but am taking advantage of all the fresh veggies we have in our garden. How old are your grandkids? I am pretty new to this site and don't know my way around yet, plus it would take hours to cover everything. How you two doing? I need to go down stairs and fill in the cracks on my face :lol: , catch you later. P.S. You can call me Bobbi, that's what my grandkids call me. It means grandma in Czech. |
HI, My grandkids are 5 and 2. I baby sit 2 days a week and they do keep me running. What they do is wear me out! But I wouldn't trade it for anything. They call me mema. They have so many grandma's! We are so fortunate. We still have my mom and grandma and my DIL mother and granma!!! I put the chocolate in my coffee too (another addiction). I'm not fortunate enough to have a big garden but we take advantage of our local fresh produce. We have a stand about 3 miles from out house that picks the vegetables in the morning and brigns them down. Soooo goood! I eat mostly vegetabls too, with a little protein thrown in there!

I Have Two Grandsons, Age 8 And 13. I Also Babysat For Them Until They Were Old Enough For School. Our Daughter Teaches School, So She's Off In The Summer. I Enjoyed Watching Them, But It Was A 20 Mile Round Trip Picking Them Up Each Morning & I Don't Miss That!
My Hubby Is A Hunter So We Always Have Plenty Of Caribou, Elk,venison In The Freezer. He Also Hunts Pheasants And Small Game Birds. We Have A One Year Old English Setter That Loves To Hunt And My Hubby Just Retired Last Week. He Will Be Leaving This Friday For Another Elk Hunt In Colorado, (we Live In Minnesota) So I Should Drop Some Weight In The 10 Days He's Gone. Hi Bobbi, My name is Freda. we met on another site and kind of lost touch! My family are hunters also. Not us. We moved to the "big city" and miss the country life still. We thought about moving but I only have 1 son and the 2 grancchildren and i'm not leaving them! They were talking about moving to the country and i was hoping because I intended to retire and move right behind them! I would love a big garden! I actually like to can and still buy tomatoes to put up.
You have a great opportunity to eat what you want and lose weight with no complications while hubby is gone. If he's like mine he has no need to lose and eats everything!!!!! Life is not fair. Talk to you soon, Freda |

I just changed my signature tracker and it worked this time click on user cp at top of page,then click on signature tracker,a page will come up with your older signature, click on it at the end of your last posted signature and back space till is gone then follow the instruction to get your new signature tracker, when done go to edit and click on copy then go back to the beginning where you took out the old signature and scroll down click inside this box and go to edit and click paste. and it should be there.I hope this works for you weight |

oh would I ever like to crave lettuce, but that will not happen.your right diets do not work, healthy eating is the way.sometimes boring but then when the day is done and next morning you get on the scale and it says 1 lb lighter ,then is all worth it. you are doing great . where were you when you started? you say you only have 10 lbs left to go .thats a real accomplishment weight |

I STARTED LAST YEAR AT 165, THEN HORSED AROUND OFF AND ON LIKE WE ALL DO. I WAS VERY SERIOUS LAST SUMMER, COUNTED EVERY MORSEL I PUT IN MY MOUTH. THEN FALL AND ALL THE HOLIDAYS CAME AND MY DIET WENT OUT WITH THE DISH WATER. I SERIOUSLY STARTED AGAIN IN MARCH OF THIS YEAR UNTIL SUMMER. THEN I TOOK THE WHOLE SUMMER OFF, DIDN'T COUNT CALORIES, I JUST NEEDED A BREAK. I DIDN'T GAIN, I ACTUALLY DROPPED SOME WEIGHT. BUT THEN IT'S OUR BUSY SEASON OUTDOORS AND I RUN THE CALORIES OFF. WE LIVE OUT IN THE COUNTRY, HAVE A FRUIT ORCHARD, LARGE VEGETABLE GARDEN AND LOTS OF DIFFERENT FLOWER GARDENS. I'M INTO SOME HEAVY FREEZING RIGHT NOW, I HAVE ENOUGH ZUCCHINI FROZEN FOR THE ENTIRE COUNTRYSIDE. ANY ZUCCHINI LOVERS OUT THERE? I MADE COLE SLAW WITH IT LAST WEEK, NO CABBAGE IN IT, JUST ZUCCINI, MAYO F.F., RAISINS AND APPLES FROM OUR ORCHARD. PINEAPPLE WOULD BE GOOD IN IT TOO! ANYBODY WANT TO SHARE SOME RECIPES WITH ME? HOW IS EVERYONE GETTING THEIR FIBER IN? WE HAVE FRESH PEACHES THAT I MIX WITH 4 OZ. OF PLAIN YOGURT AND TOP WITH 30G. OF FIBER ONE CEREAL. THE CEREAL STAYS CRISPY AND THE ONLY WAY I CAN EAT IT. I DON'T LIKE IT SOGGY WITH MILK. IT HAS 60 CALORIES AND 14G. OF FIBER. THE RECOMMENDED AMOUNT IS 25 G. FOR THE DAY. THERE IS ABOUT 3 GM OF FIBER IN THE PEACH SO I GET 17G. RIGHT AWAY IN THE MORNING. IT KEEPS ME FULL AND I HAVE SO MUCH ENERGY. MY HUBBY LIKES CRANBERRY-VANILLA CRUNCH CEREAL AND THAT HAS A WHOPPING 2G. OF FIBER FOR THE SME AMOUNT PLUS 200 CALORIES. Bobbi, first of all you have to clear your first signature, you may have forgot to clear the one you had, do that and if you want the same one you redo the whole thing and then go to edit and copy then use the back button to get you back to where you choose your tracker. scroll down and click in the space , go to edit and click paste and it should be there. you also have to re-enter your wight and all that with the new info. good luck

Good morning every one, It's cool here today, finally! it's been such a hot summer and i enjoy walking outside. Most morning it was too hot to get out! I do have a treadmill in the basement but I try to just use that in the winter. What do the rest of you do for exercise?
Bobbi, as for fiber and cereal, I usually have kashi for breakfast. I love it and it has lots of fiber. I could eat it out of the box for a snack. I also love vegetables and fruit and probally get enough with them. Just a big ear of corn is probally loaded with enough fiber. I also like oatmeal for breakfast. I mix it with splenda and cinnamon (stabalizes blood sugar) and rarins (iron) and sprink it with chopped nuts. YUM! Have a great, productive day! Freda |

IF YOU WANT TO BE A GEEK LIKE ME, I USE ALL THE .1 TO .9 AND ADD THEM ALL UP AT THE END OF THE DAY. OTHERWISE YOU CAN ROUND OFF THE APPLE CALORIES TO 107. Yes I got my ww scale, but it only reads weight and body fat, no calories, I wish it did, but when you get it free I think that airmiles sends the cheaper version if there is such a thing. I don't know I could be wrong. It was disappointing when I first got it, I weighed 4 lbs heavier than my old scale.
So your still harvesting your garden. I would love to have your chart you made, you could try and scan it to this site but I'm not sure that would work. Likely a better idea to e-mail it. hear is my e-mail address [email protected] weight |

MY FOOD SCALE MEASURES THE CALORIES WHEN YOU WEIGH FOOD ON IT. IT ALSO TELLS YOU HOW MANY GRAMS OF FIBER, SALT, FAT, ETC. It's raining here today but on a sunny day I love to hang my clothes outside on the clothesline. Just my sheets. I love the smell! It puts me right to sleep. I would wash my sheets every day in the summer just for that smell! |
