Why am I gaining weight back so fast?

  • Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday were strange days for me. I was so stressed I didn't really feel hungry. I tried to make myself eat those days and was sort of okay but I was definitely under 1200 on Monday and Tuesday. Food kind of just grossed me out.

On Wednesday, a friend wanted to go to Wendy's so all I had was a sandwich. I wasn't over 1500 calories for the entire day and yet I woke up Thursday morning and was a pound heavier.

I had a nice lunch, it was one of those boxed things you toss in the oven. Still, not over 1500 for the day. I'm up .8 lbs. That's almost a 2 pound gain in 2 days without going over 1500 calories.

It shouldn't be my TotM although that seems a bit messed up. I know my calorie count was down for two days but that's not really a considerable length of time...

Is it what I'm eating that's the issue? I was eating a lot more veggies and was more regular before so maybe it's the switch-up of what I'm actually eating that is causing problems... I had almost all veggies for a week and I felt pretty good... Hmm. =/
  • Sodium is your problem. You are retaining fluid.
  • Fluctuations happen all the time. You haven't experienced it in the 40 some pounds you've lost?

I go up and down all the time - nearly every day. Hormones, sodium, # of carbs, how much I was on my feet the day before, etc. The days I actually weigh the exact same on the scale every day is actually the minority of days. I go up and down 1/2 pounds nearly daily and can go up and down 3-5 pounds in a day too - (Carbs and hormones give me bigger swings).

Just roll with it and the scale will settle down.
  • It may be water weight. As fitbyforty said, the sodium in the foods you are eating is probably making you retain water. Don't worry about it too much. I sometimes fluctuate by 3 pounds from the morning to the evening.

I don't remember, it's been a year+ and the weight actually kind of just melted off with no problem. Getting under 140 has been an issue although I think it's mostly due to my dislike of the weather and subsequent lower activity level.

Thanks for the responses, I'll try to be more careful with those sodium levels!
  • My guess was sodium also and normal fluctuation.
  • I always have this problem when I eat fast food. I like it every now and again, but the sodium levels are really high.
  • Anytime I eat fast food hamburgers I puff up like a balloon for the next 2 days. Its probably the sodium.
