DH made a huge vat of pasta (spaghetti) fairly lightly dressed with tomato sauce and ground beef. That's it - no cheese or anything else.
I ate about 2 cups of the mixture - it was mostly pasta with the 7% fat ground beef sauce. I can figure out two cups of spaghetti pasta - I will probably faint when I see the calories. But I have no idea about the meat. I would guess less than a quarter cup and more than 1/8. Any one care to help me estimate what this might be calorie-wise?
Today was my 10 hour day at work, and I was grateful for the meal he cooked.
Yowza! 440 calories for two cups of spaghetti pasta. I did very well earlier in the day, and I think even with this I will come in under 1600.
My best guesstimate? 700 cals total.
I would personally say: "thanks, but no thanks, hon." For me, pasta is usually more trouble than it's worth- loaded in calories that break down really quickly (refined flour) and leave you hungry quickly! If it's what distance runners eat for a high calorie/carb load, then I'm not interested. It might be hard to do at first, but I think he'll appreciate a healthier you more than he would appreciate you eating his spaghetti.
it sounds like just 2-3 ounces of ground beef. 2 oz is 85 calories, so 3 would be around 140.
So, 140 + 440 = 580 calories which isn't bad for dinner. For me, I like to eat lower carb and higher protein so I'd probably have a cup of the pasta and a cup of the sauce.
I also weigh my pasta before cooking, 2oz is about 200 calories, but different shapes and sizes make it different volumes, and 2 oz of angel hair really puff up if you leave them in soup over night so it looks like a huge serving, but is sitll just 2 ounces.
