Hello,
I am in my early twenties and I am 5ft 8inches and 219lbs. I was wondering has anyone here been at my weight and height lost 50lbs pounds or more? And if so how many calories a day did you consume? How much did you burn through exercise? How long did it take you to lose that amount of weight?
How long on average does it take a calorie counter to lose 50lbs?
There's so much variety among us, and our individual experiences may not match yours. I started out at 195 pounds and lost 55 pounds in a year, eating 1,400 to 1,500 calories a day and exercising moderately (2.5 to 3 hours per week). Slow and steady is what worked for me.
This is a tough question because we are all so different. I lost the first 50 in a year with no exercise and eating 1600-1800 calories a day. I recomend checking out the weightloss calculators on freedieting.com. Plug in your age, sex, height, and the weight you want to be and see how many calories it says you need to eat to maintain.
My weight loss twin! Haven't done it yet, so I can't tell you. I just use the LoseIt app on my phone and it helps me keep track and let me know how many calories to eat. As you lose, it lowers the limit accordingly.
I'm a calorie counter, but I also calorie cycle. And I hold on to water weight like its going out of style.. My weight loss (which I started faithfully in Nov of 2010) has not been linear, even if I stay completely on my plan. It's just how this body works though, lol. It took about a year for me to lose 50lbs.. because my body is nuts. Some months I'll lose 10lbs, some months I'll lose 2. Oh well, just gotta keep going.
I exercise an hour 4 days a week, but I haven't been strictly counting calories. By estimation alone I think I've been eating in the really close to 3,000 calorie range and my weight is fluctuating from gaining to staying the same. I realize that 3,500 calories equates to a pound of fat, so I am really worried about weight gain; thus why I want to lower my calorie amount so that I can continue to lose weight.
I am going to lower my calorie intact to about 1,700-1,770 and see if that creates a change on the scale within a week or two. I guess its going to be trail and error as I adjust my calorie intact and follow how my clothes fit and the number on the scale change (or don't).
I agree everyone is different, especially women since we have hormones and some of us are more likely to have PCOS, thyroid problems, etc. if it was that easy you could just use the BMR calculators on the web.
I have to keep my calories around 1000-1400 depending on how much and how hard I'm exercising to lose, plus watch my carbs and stick to fruits and vegetables. But I see people here shorter than me, weigh less, exercise less and still lose quickly.
I am 5'9" and I have lost 50lbs so far... but I started at 227. I take in between 1200 and 1400 a day with a higher calorie (2000-2500) "splurge" about once a week. I burn 2500 calories a day on average. I do aerobics classes 3 days a week.
I have managed to lose about 8lbs a month.
You can do it!
Good luck!
I am 5'7.5. I have lost about 55 plus pounds, but now my body will not let go of anymore. It took me about a year and half to lose it. I work out 6 days a week and I ate about 1350-1500 per day. I allowed myself one free meal per week. Now that I am stuck, I am trying to cycle my calories by going from around 1400-about 1700 and then sometimes still a free meal on the weekend...I am still working about about 2 hours a day but now added weights as well. I am going back to weighing only one time per month (1 week after my period) because it seems to be the only time I am not fluctuating from my hormonal shifts. Weighing at that time of the month seems to be my true weight and I get a better idea of where I am at.
