Default Cheated at lunch...Should I still eat supper?

So I cheated at lunch today and caved into a grilled chicken burger (~600 cal) and fries (~300 cal). I can still stay at 1200 if I don't eat anything more today.

I'm making home made tomato soup (chicken stock from chicken thighs, celery, carrots and leek then add 1 can tomato paste) for my fiancé for supper. So it's very low cal and lots of protein. We usually split a pack of Chinese noodles between the two of us to add some carbs, but I can skip that.

Should I tack on an extra 200 (or 350 with noodles) tonight to keep my metabolism going? Or just not eat?

I should note that I hit the gym today and walked around the river in our city for another 50mins afterwards (the walk was to make up a little for the cheat).

If I was hungry, I'd eat the 350 calories (since I eat 1500-1700 a day anyway.)

Do you track your calories through weighing and measuring or just estimate?

Normally I weigh or measure but something like soup is tough to do since it's not exactly possible to be exact.

You can weigh the chicken, and then count the tomato paste calories and divide by the number of servings. I ask because 200 calories seemed like a lot for just broth, paste and a little chicken.

Eat your soup. Trust me you'll still be below maintenance calories, so no problems there, you'll just pick right back up tomorrow. It's no biggie!!

And not eating may lead to binge eating, so enjoy your dinner. xo

yes, I agree with everyone else eat dinner. You did workout, which was really good. The few extra calories will not completely derail you, just stay on plan tomorrow and be sure to get lots of water.

Oh my gosh yes! Just go high protein/low calorie! Soup is my best friend! There are so many great light options and I feel it's just enough to get you through the evening! Drink lots of water too...that will make you feel more full!

I'd so eat the soup and savor every bite! Better to have that extra 200 to 350 now and be satisfied than to wake up and be starving tomorrow. P.S. That soup sounds SO good!

Agreed! Eat it, and don't freak out if the scale has jumped tomorrow. It is probably just the sodium, and the 300 calories won't make or break your journey

It's obviously the next day at this point, but for next time know that 1200 is the BARE MINIMUM you should be eating. I'm not telling you to eat more (because it's your choice as to how many calories you eat) but know that you could likely easily tack on anywhere from 300-600 calories (or more) and still be in "losing mode."

Keep that in the back of your mind if you happen to be hungrier or eat a little more than you planned.

^^ This.

Why does everyone automatically jump down to 1200 calories? Where did this myth come from that women have to eat 1200 calories to lose weight?

Thats me in my avatar... I lost weight and now maintain it on about 1800 calories per day, plus treats. I'm not superhuman, I just went with an online calculator and *shocker* followed it! I didn't kill my metabolism on a 1200 calorie a day diet...

I definitely wouldn't freak out about 200-350 extra calories... EAT WOMAN!

I am glad you posted this question Katbot. I have often had the same dilemma and have often starved myself and then end up doing way worse in the long run anyway.

Jossfit you look amazing!

The last time I attempted to lose weight (Feb/Mar of this year) I found my weight loss was so slow. I also was reducing calories and feeling very hard-done-by because of it but it seemed I had to to lose weight. I am only 5'1". I'm going to follow your links and read...oh and I'm getting older too..46 now...so I guess my metabolism is slowing on top of the fact that I am a short a*s! Great! LOL!
