Starting Again...

  • About 3 years ago I was able to lose 70 lbs. in one year by using the WW program. I met a new guy and we have been dating for 2 years now and I have unfortunately put 30 lbs back on . I am starting back up again to lose the weight I have put back on and more to get to what my original goal was. I decided to do something different, and easier. I decided to try calorie counting.

The problem is that I am having a heck of a time getting the scale to move since starting to count calories. I am eating 1200-1300 calories per day. Right now I am a full time student and am working full time as well, so I don't have any time for excercise. Has anyone switched from one plan to another and had a couple weeks where they saw no result? Or does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to get a loss?

    Thanks so much!
  • Hi

    Don't let this discourage you.
If you even have thirty minutes a day to work out, use it. I'm tellin ya, with enough intensity in 30 mins, you can lose some serious weight :]

    I would completely 100% recommend sparkpeople.com
That website is my 2nd home. It gives me quick, easy workout ideas. I can track my food. It tells me what calorie area to stay in. Spark people + Jillian Michaels is to thank for my six pound weight loss this week :] So like I said, even if you have 30 mins a day, or 15 minutes, or whatever.

Depending on your activity level (like where you work, or if you have little ones) you might not be eating enough calories, and that will cause you to not lose weight also. (or that's what a personal trainer told me)

    Good luck :3
  • Thanks for the reply! I do try to get in some physical activity but sometimes it's just impossible. The weird thing is that the year that I lost 70 lbs. I did it with absolutely no excercise. Obviously I know that it is very important to be active but even without it I feel that cutting my calories should result in some loss.
  • You will lose weight without exercise, but that calorie level seems really low. I'm about your weight and I try to stay around the 1500-1600 range. Your body will definitely go into starvation mode, and that will cause you not to lose.
  • Yeah, I totally get that it's impossible sometimes.
Congrats on that huge weight loss. Like I said, don't let it discourage you.

Garcesmomma said exactly what I was thinking.
When my personal trainer said I had to up my calories by like 300-ish I wanted to die. I was like "NONONO, that's a whole extra MEAL. I'll be HUGE" But it's working. So maybe give that a shot?
  • IHeartMe, I have tried both WW and Calorie Counting. Like others suggested, you may not be getting enough calories for your weight. Like with WW, you want to lower the calories you allow yourself as you reach lower weight levels.

It was interesting to me to use a Basal Metabolic Calculator to see an estimate of the calories my body should burn at my current weight and at rest. I'm gonna use that number and subtract enough calories to lose 1.5 lbs a week (I hope)

Also, you have kept a lot of weight off for a very long time! Give yourself a pat on the back!!
  • Thank you all for responding! You have given me a few ideas on how I can try to get that scale to move! I will try raising my calorie intake for a few weeks and hopefully that helps. I would like to lose 1.5-2 lbs per week so I will try eating about 1450 calories per day and see if I can get results that way.
  • Good luck, IHeartMe!

My BMR according to myfitnesspal is about 1700 calories/day. So, best I figure I need a deficit of about 500 calories a day to lose a pound a week, with diet alone. I'm older than you I think, and fairly inactive so I need fewer calories to run this old bod.

What's your BMR at your current weight?
  • Thanks EatMoreCelery!

My BMR is about 1820 and my daily caloric need is 2175 right now and I am trying to lose 1.5-2 lbs per week thats why I dropped my intake to 1200. Obviously something is off for me not to see a loss at all so I am going to try eating about 1400 and see if that helps.
  • Oh, I think you're headed in the right direction by adding some calories back! Do be patient with yourself (and the scales) as your body adjusts.
