I tried those noodles and thought they were disgusting!!!! I do know some people who like them (or at least find them tolerable lol) but I found them to be pretty terrible.

There are regular zero calorie yam flour shirataki noodles, and a tofu shirataki variety of noodle that has 20 calories per serving. Many people prefer the tofu variety over the regular zero calorie shirataki. I have tried both and do prefer the tofu noodles, but both can be used, especially if the somewhat firm/rubbery texture is not objectionable. The key, as Munchy pointed out previously, is to use them in recipes where their flavors harmonize.

I did have a nice dinner yesterday of homemade turkey chili over tofu angel hair shirataki, and did not detect any "off" flavor coming from the noodles to ruin the meal. It left me comfortably satisfied all evening. I think if you combine the noodles with something very flavorful, such as a thai soup or spicy chili type sauce, they are pretty good.

You know, I take back my good comments about those noodles. Maybe I didn't rinse them enough this time, but I put them in some lentil soup last night and it was so foul I couldn't gag them down. The texture, that hard, rubbery consistency combined with the slightly fishy smell they exude really almost made me physically sick. I don't know what I was thinking the last time I had them...they didn't seem to have a taste or smell that time. The spicy flavors of the chili must have masked any residual odors, I guess. Or maybe I was hungrier and wolfed them down too fast for my taste buds to catch up.

This time? Not so much. Then I saw this thread and just HAD to put in my additional comments! :barf:

Ha! I don't think I've ever eaten them without some oyster sauce added to them :)
I don't know that I'd eat ramen with lentil soup, so I never thought to put them together!

I like the combination of beans and pasta...think pasta fagioli or chili mac, but lentils and tofu...never again. Blecccchhhhhh.

never tried these but I think I seen them in the grocery store before, I'll have to check again.

what I like as a pasta substitute is spiral/spaghetti cut zucchini. little higher in calories than these noodles, but atleast you can count it as a vegetable serving or 2. It can be used with marinara sauce or with stir fries and pretty much absorbs the flavors it's mixed with. probably wouldn't work in soups though.

I fixed the noodles last night. They were pretty bad.

you can order them from amazon if they can't be found locally.

I was wondering if anyone got an upset stomach from all of the fiber these things are made from...that much isolated fiber would probably bother my tummy. I may give them a try at some point but I will make sure to watch how much I consume at once.
