Default Gone to far

hi everyone.

i have lost 57 lbs in 27 weeks. just before christmas i cut my calories down to 1100 a day. after christmas i was on about 900 a day.

i was doing ok until last week when i found i couldnt control these cravings that i was having. then on sunday i started to feel ill. my blood pressure went right down and i didnt feel well at all.

i saw my gp today as i have had heart problems in the past. she said i wasnt eating enough and that was why i was feeling so ill.

she has told me to increase my calories to 1500. which i am finding very hard to do. both physically and mentally.

i managed about 1300 yesturday and about 1400 today. i am worried that i will put on weight and dont know when it will be safe to do my training again. last time i nearly past out.

if anyone has gone through this and has any advise then let me know.

thanks.

I agree with your doctor. You are not getting anough calories. I figure you are about 5.6 , 1500 sounds about right to me.
Were you just eating 900 calories a day shen you passed out ?

I'm not a doctor but it sounds to me like you are heading into very dangerous territory...that of having an eating disorder.

I used to struggle with this kind of fear and it's really scary. Is there anyone you can talk to about this? Maybe I'm overreacting but better safe than sorry, right?

EDIT: Also, even if you lose weight fast, that's not really too terribly healthy. Not only that but it could bounce right back later when you start eating more normally. No one can survive on 900 calories a day forever without getting sick, as you are now seeing, and it is going to be so painfully hard to continue with such a restrictive diet.

i am going back to my doctor next week for a check up. she wants to make sure i am ok.

Continue to eat and take care of yourself. 96 lbs and 5 ft 7.5 is a very low weight for someone your height, sounds like you are teetering on disordered eating/eating disorder. Glad your parents and dr are aware, thinner is not always better. Take care of yourself Chris & treat your body well by eating!

hey given that her height is in cm, i presume the 96 is in kilos?

if it is in kg, i would up past 1500 while you are still bigger, i am about 70kg? whatever 175 is... and i eat about 1800 and still lose.

honestly, if you feel like you can't increase to 1500 i would add something fatty , like "healthy" fatty- half an avocado? 15 almonds? so, low density high cal healthy food.

the thing about weight loss is, eat as much as you can- and still lose weight (within set calories), then when that stops working, you play with it, you might need to lower, you might need to increase exercise etc.

i mean, i think many peoples issue on here is that they absolutely like to eat.

would you rather eat less and exercise more? or exercise more and eat more? i prefer option 2.

and the thing is, healthy brings healthy.

Just repeating the concern. I was eating more than you, had low blood sugar and blacked out one night on my bedroom floor. I could have really hurt myself. So please, please be careful.

Member John P has taglined that diet is for weight loss and exercise is for fitness. Googling that seems to make it so. Don't worry about the exercise for the moment. Your body is adjusting to losing almost 60 pounds in a short while. You're having physical issues because of it. Listen to your doctor's current sound advice. Eat a bit more, and don't worry about the exercise for the moment. Give your body time to adjust and hopefully the new issues will resolve, as well as the old issues which caused you to embark on weight loss in the first place.

Good luck to you Chris.

great to see that you're following the advice of a doctor. Did the doc give you a specific number of calories? Men shouldn't really go under 1800 a day, so even 1500 is pretty low.

she told me to start with 1500 and then increase it. i was on about 900. i think she is worried that if i have to much to soon then i will put on loads of weight and give up.
