Newbie at Counting Calories

  • Hi guys! I've been dieting since I can remember. I've tried a lot of different diets and they all failed (except for Fat Smash which I lost 10 lbs) but I'm slowly gaining it back when I'm off of it. I want to do a diet I'll follow for the rest of my life and I figured counting calories is very flexible. I want to track my calories. I'm going to buy myself a small journal to keep in my purse so I have it 24/7.
I found a website and it gave me 1307 calories/day to lose 1 lbs per week and I would reach my goal of 135 by July 9, 2012. Those calories are if I don't do exercise. If I do exercise, I'll be able to eat whatever I burn in calories.

    Does that sound good?
  • Sounds good, but remember this is an estimate, don't be disappointed if you lose slower. Everyones body is different so be wary of positive statements such as this. You may do as they say but you may not.
  • Thanks
It's kinda exciting to finally know how my body works. See how fast it loses. I'll start counting tomorrow.

I've been counting my calories all morning. Going great so far. I have a question though. I don't remember where I got the number 1307 to lose a lb but I went on another website earlier (BMR Calculator) and it says I should eat 1900 calories to maintain and from there, if I want to lose a lb a week, to minus 500 calories per lb. That would come to 1400 (& that's sedentary). That's 100 more than what I found on the other site. I'm a bit confused as to what to do... Any suggestions on that? I don't ever want to go lower than 1300 per day.
  • Why don't you start at 1400 for the first week or so, and see if you're happy with the rate of weight loss? You can always drop down to 1300 if it's not swift enough for you.
  • Sounds like a plan to me Thanks Nibbles!
