Default At times like this....

so, it's pretty late at night and I am hungry! I ate a good bit today:

B - Thomas Light whole wheat muffin w/ tblspn cream cheese
L - Salad from Moes meat, veggies, sals
D - Morning star black bean pattie on Light bread w/ reduced fat provalone

and I just ate 1/2 a cuke w/ a splash of olive oil and balsamic vinegar

I personally took in a lot of calories today, so I feel terrible about putting anything in my mouth!!

What are some things you guys keep in the house that are low in calories and will satisfy hunger?

That doesn't seem like very much food to me?? Was your salad high calorie? I eat WAY more than that in a day

I agree, that doesn't seem like very much food. I eat six or seven times a day, even if I'm only eating 1200 calories.

Here are some of my low calorie snacks:
- eggbeaters scrambled with spinach or other veggies, also sometimes with a Laughing Cow cheese wedge, chutney, or salsa
- hard-boiled egg
- 50 calorie whole wheat wrap with lean lunch meat or a laughing cow cheese wedge
- fruit (whatever is in season)
- oatmeal and other whole grain hot cereals
- non-fat cottage cheese
- non-fat plain yogurt
- light string cheese
- popcorn (98% fat free)
- Fiber One cereal (for a snack, I eat it dry)
- Meg's Fiber One Muffins (I always have a batch on hand)

I keep my breakfast under 200 calories, my lunch under 300 calories, and dinner under 400 calories so that I have more room for snacks throughout the day. I also eat a huge (seriously, 8 oz) green salad with my dinner every night. The salad consists of lettuce, various greens (chard, mustard, pea shoots, arugula, whatever is available), cucumber, radishes, usually one other veggie, pepper, sea salt, and 1-2 tbsp low cal dressing. It comes in at around 60 calories (depending on the dressing) and helps keep me filled up in the evenings.

You need to get some fruit in there! I agree that it doesn't seem like much food at all. I'm with Barbara, I eat 6 times a day.

Wow, unless there's something you're not telling us, that isn't what I would call a lot of calories... Have you totaled it up in FitDay or The Daily Plate to see what it comes to?

Welcome to calorie counting! There sure is a lot to learn at first.

I have to agree with the others. You are DEFINITELY not eating enough. Unless that salad at lunch had 1000 calories, you are not taking in enough calories for sustainable weight loss. It looks like you're implying this is more than you usually eat, too?

What are you aiming for as a daily calorie total?

Well, Daily Plate suggested appx 1500 cals per day for a 3lb per week loss. That is my goal for right now. What I posted last night is actually a lot less than I usually eat, lol. I was just wondering what you guys eat late at night when you really feel like you are hungry.

Isn't calorie counting amazing?!
You had a nice full plate ... thought you'd eaten lots ... figured it out ... and could cheerfully eat more.
I love calorie counting! And other calorie counters are sooo nice and helpful, yes?
Don't apologise, Femme Fatale, for misunderstanding. That's why you've got us

If you haven't eaten your "daily allotment" of calories you can eat what ever fits in there, even in the evening. I do try to be sensable, and I try not to eat after 7, but if I am cuddling on the couch with hubby watching tv, I'm not gonna deprive myself of some popcorn even if it's 9:30.

The biggest thing for me is finding the most amount of food for the amount of calories I can eat in the day. What has worked for me is to allow myself 200 calories for breakfast and another 200 for lunch, 500 for dinner, then I have 3~ 100 calorie snacks a day, usually I don't hit those numbers for any of the meals or snacks, so if I happen to go over for one, I'm kind of covered.

One of the hardest things for me was to be honest about what I was eating. A nibble off of the cookie I'm giving to the kids adds up over time.

Well, daily plate suggests that I eat appx 1500 cals a day to lose 3lbs a week. I ate all of them today, lol. I have about 25 calories left so I will be chewing ice for the rest of the night

hmmm with 25 calories you could eat.... sugar free jello... a whole cup of it or if you buy walmart's brand you can eat 2 cups of it , some Extra gum (5 cal. per stic.... so with those 5 sticks you could blow some kickin bubbles ), high in sodium but you could eat pickles, most are calorie free!, a cup of microwave popcorn is 30, only 5 over.. just be strict with yourself so you don't go over board since it is just over your limit, ummm some sliced cucumbers or celery even would be a good low cal snack.

I just bought a GIGANTIC seedless watermelon that'll last me all week - it's a great snack in my opinion!
