Default When it comes to food and hunger, I am so dang suggestible!

I am trying to distract myself from eating, but I find that when any mention of a specific food is made, I suddenly want it! Just now, I was reading a post title that said something about grapefruit and hard-cooked eggs, and now I want it! I can smell the grapefruit. I can feel how the eggs feel and taste in my mouth. And I'm not even hungry!

I quit watching Food Network, Cooking Channel and Travel Channel some time ago because of this "food porn" issue. I have stopped eating out because of it too, because everything looks so appetizing once I see it. I really want to cut calories drastically in order to lose weight. So many obstacles to overcome.

Someone I know on another forum admitted to being a food sniffer. Instead of running away from the smell of food, she embraces and enjoys it all she wants, and can keep from putting it in her mouth. I'm not brave enough to try that. But I have heard of certain food smells killing cravings.

It's good that you recognize that you can't really watch food shows because it triggers you! My husband and I watch Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, but only when we are eating our dinner, otherwise it is too hard to watch and triggers both of us to want to run out and grab food.

I had to laugh at your friend who is a food sniffer -- I just did the same thing last night. I brought home cake from my parents' house, but didn't want to eat it after all, so I opened the tupperware and just smelled it...three separate times. And then I tossed it. It was soooo hard not to eat it, but the smell was delicious. Good to know I'm not alone in doing that.

I have the same problem. My mom will read cookbooks when she's hungry because it makes her not want to eat. I read cookbooks and I want EVERY SINGLE THING in it.

I don't think I could trust myself to sniff food, either.
