Red face New, really new to Calorie Counting

Hello lovelies!

A year ago, I reached goal weight and BELIEVED I had ended a decade-long battle with health issues. NOW I realize, I did not set myself up with a healthy, sustainable way of eating and exercising. After realizing that my slacks have NOT been shrinking, I had a wake-up call and joined the Christmas Challenge. After stepping on the scale . . .
appears I've gained even more than I'd believed possible within the last 2 months. Like many, daily routines have become very stressful, yet no reason to throw in the towel on fitness.

Believe it or not: At my age (54), out of all the diets, fasts, food plans, etc. I've put my body through, I have never done "calorie counting," and "portion control" is another stranger!

So, I've updated my stats, changed my goal to 135, and I'm sincerely ready to dive in and put consistent efforts into calorie counting and daily workouts, starting with 30 minutes of walking.

Jean
ps:I'm inspired by these great threads. Any and all support is appreciated.

Welcome to our little corner of 3FC! Once you get used to calorie counting, it really becomes second nature. It allows you some flexibility for the occasional "not so healthy" food here and there, but still keeps you accountable. Best of luck!

Consider automating a couple of meals each day to help you avoid the hassle of calorie counting. Figure out two or three meals' calorie counts and stick with those, so you don't have to sit down and be worrying with the counting every day. I know my bfast calories are the same whether I have Special K & rice milk, or oatmeal. Lunch is one of three equal calorie choices. That gives me a set number of calories I can play with for selecting what I'm in the mood for at supper. It makes it easier, and thereby less stressful. No, the simple addition isn't difficult, but it helps to not have to think about making decisions too much.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! It's only Day 2, yet I am loving this Calorie Counting. It already feels wonderful not to have to eliminate any major food groups. I'm keeping in touch and observing/participating in a few threads here at 3FC. It really keeps me focused and accountable.

Sea (was my nickname for years!), that's a great idea. I am math challenged so tips in making the counting easier is appreciated.

Have a great day!

Jean

Yep, that weight really creeps up on you, doesn't it! I seem to be stuck. I can't get myself jumpstarted for some reason. I'm exercising and watching my calorie intake, but the scale won't budge. I started a new weight training routine this week, and added in a lot of core exercises. We'll see what happens! Have a great week!

Hey CC, Amen to that!
I was doing well, got under 150 --- then gave way, way, way ("weigh") too much thanks at Thanksgiving! Yet, I am convinced Calorie Counting will work best in the long run.

Off to find that December challenge
