Fat Grams?

  • I'm recording my calories on fitday and it keeps track of everything else as well, fat, carbs, protein and all.

When you guys are calorie counting do you aim for a certain amount in the other catagories as well? I'm mainly wondering about grams of fat. Two days ago I ended up having almost 70 grams. Probably high. Today I've only had about 20 grams. It seems like that's kind of on the low side and I've always heard you still need to eat a certain amount of fat, just healthier ones. Do you try to stay around a certain number at all or do you just focus on the calories?
  • I pay attention to saturated fats - I try to keep it at 7% or below. I track everything, but sat fat is what I keep an especially close eye on.
  • Does Fitday give you a recommended amount for your calorie intake?
My tracker does the calculations for me, letting me know what I'm allotted for carbs, protein and fat. It's really made a difference in my loss being aware of that.
And yes, an avocado is healthier for you than a bag of french fries, but healthy or no, too much of anything will slow you down.
  • on fitday we can set a calorie goal, but it's optional. not sure if there's more specific goals for protein/fat ect. haven't seen that. but it gives charts for the whole day's cal, and ratios. i posted as i ate through the day. i just check the chart, see if i need more protein, less fat so on. i was shooting for cal from fat of 20%.
  • I used to track fat intake the first time I did calorie counting, but this time around I'm not going to bother since I'm not taking in any "bad" fats. (No saturated or trans fats at all.)
