Default pizza night for the family

Tonight is pizza night for the family. Now, I make my own homemade dough, and sauce, so I am in full control of the fat and salt content, etc of the pizza that is made. USUALLY when I make them pizza, I do myself a nice veggie and chicken stir fry, but tonight I am thinking I am going to join the family in pizza.

They like it nice and thick with sausage and lots of cheese, and while I could get away with one piece, I know that would not satisfy me, so I am considering making myself my own personal wafer thin (I prefer cracker type crust anyway) pizza.

I am a big fan of stir fry stuff, and asian veggies, so I am thinking I could try kind of a chinese style pizza. What you guys think? broccoli on a pizza? I"ve never done that, but it doesnt sound too awful bad. How about water chestnuts? How would that work on a pizza? I adore water chestnuts.

Lay it on me guys..what can I put on my chinese pizza? the only no no is mushrooms...dont mention mushrooms..they are one of the few things that I simply cannot tolerate eating.

Hey there!

Maybe take a cue from California Pizza Kitchen. They have a Thai Chicken pizza.

"Thai Chicken
This is the original! Pieces of chicken breast marinated in a spicy peanut-ginger and sesame sauce, Mozzarella cheese, green onions, bean sprouts, julienne carrots, cilantro and roasted peanuts."

Now obviously some of those things aren't a great idea (like the peanuts...), but it may give you some ideas!

hmm, sounds delicious. I'd say yes to broccoli(I love it on my pizza) & maybe to water chestnuts(not sure how they'd taste heated up.)

But you have to try sweet bell peppers & onions together...yummy!

& good for you for having what your family is having but adjusting it for yourself. I think making your own pizza is a much better idea than having only one small piece of the other one.

Ashley, I had in my mind a strictly veggie pizza, but the chicken with maybe some sesame does sound appealing..I love ginger, but have never paired it with tomato and cheese, have to get my mind around that..but it might be yummy.

Hippy, definitely will put put peppers and onions on it!

Grilled veggies are good on a pizza too. Zucchini, eggplant, peppers, onion, thin slices of tomato. Leave off the mozzarella but put some shavings of parmesan or grand padano (the real thing, not the dust from the can, so you get the flavor). Very thinly sliced ham is also good, it crisps up and the taste gets stronger, so you can just use one slice.

Also, this is a pretty yes or no thing for most people but: PINEAPPLE!

Actually that would work on a Thai pizza too.

In some parts of the world sweet corn is a regular topping for pizza.

I like just about any veggie on a pizza. I would only caution that you make sure they are cooked first and dried off with a paper towel. Those asian stirfry mixes always create a ton of water which will make your pizza soggy!

The other option is to eat the veggies on the side. I am a big fan of having 1-2 slices of pizza with a giant salad basically on top of them. If I eat them together like that, with a knife and fork, it takes longer for me to eat the pizza slice and I feel like I've eaten a lot more. :P

Ooh, I didn't think about the pizza sauce aspect of it. I think the CPK one uses like a sesame sauce as a..well, sauce. Don't quote me on that though.

Bronze, the ham sounds great as well. Afraid there is no way this pizza will have no mozzarella on it. I won't use a lot, but this is non negotiable. LOL For me, its not pizza without mozzarella cheese. Now a little parmesan with the mozzarella can help me cut back a bit more on the mozz itself, so thats doable.

Same thing with a non tomato based sauce. Not that a sesame sauce on crust does not sound good, and I might have to make something like that at some point, but its simply not pizza in my mind. And this is PIZZA..just adjusted pizza. I guess it's a case of my wanting to have pizza, not something LIKE pizza.

How about a pizza with no sauce? Like a flat bread type thing with grilled veggies? Very fancy

I like the salad on the pizza thing. Reminds me of taco pizza. This might actually inspire me to make a healthier version of taco pizza. Instead of ground beef or sausage, I could do a basic chicken and cheese pizza on thin crust. Then pile on the veggies (lettuce, tomato, onion, peppers, whatever). Drizzle on some hot sauce and there you go!
