so as you know I post everything, and I have just started. I am trying break the habit of consuming diet coke. I feel like I just have to have it everyday. How do I get weaned? lol. I want to be able to just drink water! I wish they had a pill for this like they do smoking. lol. Let me know if you have this problem, and what you think I should do about it?
I had a hard time getting use to water. Admittably I hadn't had a glass before Feburary in a long, long, long time. I started out by making a goal to drink one bottle of water per day and then I added another bottle in and so on and eventually I found that I was cutting out a lot of the diet soda I use to drink for water. And now I pretty much drink water except at family's house, I hate the taste of tap water. My mom buys it bottled because the city water is not drinkable (well you could drink it, but you wouldn't want to).
I drank a 12 pack of diet coke everyday for over 10 years. When I started my lifestyle change, I just cut it out with the exception of 1 20oz once or twice a week. I am not saying it was easy but I did it and I am glad because now my main drink is water and I love it Good luck
I have a 24 oz re-usable water bottle and I made it my goal to drink 4 of those a day. After I had my 4 bottles a day, then and only then could I have my one can of Diet Coke. Maybe since you're really addicted, you can allow yourself two a day for starters. For me, it helped that it wasn't totally forbidden. Just that I had to drink my water before having my DC.
This mind set is why CC is working for me. Nothing is bad, or against the rules as long as it fits into my calorie limit and personal plan.
Thanks for the advice! Calorie Counting is really working for me, even though I am not weighing myself until August 28. I have to say it is very easy just watching my portions. As for the diet coke problem, I think I am going to try the technique of having so much water before I get to drink any diet cokes. I think I am dependent on the caffeine part. I guess I need a different source of energy!
How much money do you spend on Diet coke Tonya, could you put that money in a diet coke can each time you go to buy a diet coke and go on a trip or buy yourself something pretty with it?
A friend of mine said she was going to stop smoking and save that money up for one year and see how much she saves and hopes to have enough to go on a trip.
When I was a diet coke addict and trying to learn to like water, I bought water in bottles and drank crystal light 2-3 times a day. That eventually turned into just water and now I just have a small diet coke at sonic when I go to town once or twice a week. Crystal light sure helped me in the transition. My fav. was pink lemonade and wild strawberry. Good-luck!
I was practically raised on diet coke, so I sympathize! I started limited myself at first to one can a day, and then I ran out and just... didn't buy it. Oddly enough, I don't like fountain diet coke or bottled diet coke as much as canned diet coke, and most restaurants don't offer the cans, so it was pretty easy to get away from once I stopped having it in my fridge.
The other beverages I love are raspberry iced tea and coffee. It has been difficult to get away from the tea, and I have decided that I can continue to have my one coffee a day -- I just don't want to live a life where I can't enjoy my coffee!
I loved diet soda in general, and i always had as much as a could. So i just stopped buying it. I am a lot less apt to have it if I don't have it in the house.
I had to just go cold turkey on the soda, diet and regular. It was too easy for me to slip back if I let myself have it. I drank a lot of tea a my transition - I have the Hot Cinnamon Spice and Cinnamon Green teas from Harney and Son's, which are fantastic hot or iced. Even now I can only rarely drink a carbonated beverage.
I myself am a Diet Pepsi addict. Majorly! I still drink 8-10 cans a day. But, now for every soda I drink, I drink a bottle of water too. It hasn't helped me to cut down on the soda too much, but at least I'm getting the water in now too.
All I drink is Diet pepsi and alot of it, all day long, no water or anything. I don't like coffee or tea and water just makes me sick to my stomach. I won't drink juices because they are processed, but I'll drink diet soda, duh!! I've been drinking it for 24 yrs. now and I wish I could stop, but I can't. I need the caffeine!
Maybe you shouldn't try to go "cold turkey"... If you're just starting try changing one bad habit or food choice a week. If you try to cut out everything at first it could get really hard.. Diet Coke is not the best choice but it's not the worst thing either. I mean, if you are working on say... cutting out evening snacking and you feel you need that Diet Coke. Have it. One thing at a time. Just my opinion... Good luck to you!!!
