Daily or Weekly?

  • Does everyone weigh daily or weekly? I've been weighing myself daily and have been feeling really down and upset today because of it; I am now thinking I need to get rid of my "habit" and start weighing in once a week.

For those of you who weigh each week, what day do you weigh in on and why? Someone told me to do the middle of the week, but I feel like it doesn't or shouldn't really matter which day I weigh in if I am staying on track.
  • I weigh daily, but it doesn't bother me (TOO much) to see my weight fluctuate up some. On the other hand, if I weighed weekly and my weight happened to have fluctuated up that day . . . I'd be really depressed because I didn't see it was lower the day before or the day after.

Also, the way my brain works would hurt me. Given time with no new data, I tend to inflate expectations: If I weighed only on Mondays, by Sunday night I would have convinced myself I'd probably lost 4 pounds, easy, and then be all bummed to see I only lost 2 (even though that's a great rate of loss).

But people are different. Heck, the same person is different at different stages of this complicated process.
  • I think maybe I am just down because of the TOM water weight I think I am carrying around right now. I honestly don't know if I can not weigh myself daily.

Shmead: How much of a fluctuation do you normally see when you do notice your up? Also, do you count your carbs or just generally eat healthy while consuming carbs?
  • Everyday....sometimes several times a day... This is a new trend to me , I don't know why I started this???( Just did---really!)

I'm going to try for the next week, just once a week and see how I do

This past winter we had company over and a gal came out of our bathroom laughing and said " why do you have a scale in there?" Myself, my DH, and everyone in the room thought it was strange... Doesn't everyone have a scale in their bathroom????
  • I weigh every day. I tried to weigh weekly when I started my program again. That didn't last long. I guess I'm a creature of habit. I like being able to see the fluctuations.
  • Daily for me as well
  • Shoes27 , I'm not the poster you were talking to, but , somedays I see a difference of 3-4lbs.on the scale..

I am counting calories , my focus is on higher protein and lower carbs.
( I'm just new to this so just sharing what I'm doing)
  • I weigh daily as well. It can be hard to see the fluctuations but then i think about the past couple of days, did i have sodium, did i exercise alot, etc. so then i put it all in perspective. I like to weigh daily to make sure i'm not going the wrong way.
  • You can check out the "June Daily Weighing" thread to get an idea of the fluctuations folks see day to day. The first few pages give you a good over view. I lot of us put a note for when it's TOM or if we binged the day before, that sort of thing. If you do decide to weight daily it's a good group to be part of for the moral support on those occassional up-ticks. This is my first month of recording my daily weights. Before I pretty much weighed every day but only counted Friday's result. I'm finding this daily process interesting but then I don't get very bothered when the scale doesn't go in the right direction every day.
  • I don't even have a scale in my house. If I did I would be on it all the time! I weigh once a week at my friends. I too am new at this. Just what I am doing.
  • I weigh every morning, no clothes, after the bathroom visit. I record my weight daily, but only count it officially as "on record" for Sunday morning weigh ins.
  • I , also like Shan .weigh everyday (like I said above) but use use only the ONE time a week weigh in for "official weigh in"
  • I weigh weekly. I tried weighing daily and it just drove me bonkers because it made me feel like I was never going to get anywhere losing weight. Weighing weekly has helped me keep better track of my general progress. I used to do it on Fridays, to keep the number in mind if I wanted to overeat during the weekend. However, I've been at my parents' house or elsewhere over the weekends these past couple months so I shifted to Wednesdays because I'm pretty much always at home during the week. (I have to weigh on my scale. I'm pretty particular about that.)
  • I used to weigh weekly, but since I've moved and now bought a scale of my own last week I've been doing it every day. I used to have to go next door to use a scale, and since I refuse to do it any other time but in the morning before I eat or drink I was too lazy to do it more than once a week. Now I see it there in the morning when I walk into the bathroom and can't resist my own curiosity. I may have to hide the thing in a cabinet, lol.

I have a question for daily weighers. How does your loss usually show up? I know that weight fluctuates, but do you tend to see your loss gradually through-out the week? Or is it more sudden, like you're about the same weight then go down a pound in a day or two?
  • I weigh around twicw per week but I only make a official note of my weekly weigh in which is Thursday mornings. I started my plan on a Thursday and as such I am sticking to it. TOM affects weekly weigh ins too but I am sure that it would affect daily ones more. I dont think I can deal with all the fluctuations that come with daily weigh ins and as such weekly ones work for me.
