Amusement Park Food

  • H ladies! Read this interesting article I found : http://www.examiner.com/x-46457-DC-D...amusement-park

I love amusement parks! But sometimes its scary to go there with all those high calorie, yet yummy food! How do you guys stay within your calorie limit when you visit them? And the worse part is that we dont even know the calorie count in the food! Oy!

    =)
  • Urgh... this is something I have to figure out... I'll be going to the Universal Studios in a week's time... and I don't think we're allowed to bring food in. At least... not "normal" food.
  • Haha... I take my own food in anyway. My grandma always used to carry a big handbag and snuck grapes and egg salad sandwiches and crackers with us wherever we went. It was wonderful.
  • Eat before, plan to eat after leaving so I'm only there for one meal in the day, so I usually look for menu online or call or just estimate. Get kid size of whatever it is and just do your best.

    A.
  • When I've gone to amusement parks with lots of people, we usually pack a cooler or something. When I went to an amusement park just recently, I ate breakfast before I went, and at the park I shared a bratwurst thing with my boyfriend and split some chips drank lots of water, left and got a late dinner. So I didn't eat super healthy but I kept it small in portions. Eating anymore than that, I'd of probably puked anyway. Damn coasters!
  • Just got back from FL. One one the places we visited was Disney World. We could bring our lunches in and water bottles. This is one of the reasons I continued to lose even though I was traveling for 9 days.
  • I usually bring in snacks, although most theme parks are starting to do a great job of having healthy options out for people to buy. I bring almonds, protein bars, air pop corn and things along those lines. If you want to pack actual meals, most theme parks have lockers outside the gates which will fit your coolers. That way you can walk out for your meal and then enjoy the rest of your day inside. Remember to bring tons of water. You can freeze a couple bottles the night before so they are ready to go by the afternoon.
  • We have often packed a cooler and left it in the car - then we take a break in the middle of the day and have a "picnic" in the car and rest our feet.
  • I went to Disney a few weeks ago and managed to stay OP. We were there for the entire day and ate breakfast through dinner. I did have to spend time furiously calculating on my phone while everyone else ordered whatever they wanted. Depending on how popular the park is, they might have vegetarian options which is what helped me.

I mostly filled up on lean protein and fruit because it was widely available. It did help that I was at Epcot though and could head to Japan for sushi and America for eggs and toast. Still, if I'm at a carnival or renfest where most everything is fried, I tend to stick with lean meats and just remove the skin/battered parts. And lots of water!
