Welcome Allison! For a jumping point I would reccomend sparkpeople.com for tracking your daily calories. That's what I use and its simple and easy to follow along. Also, I use the Biggest Loser Calorie Counter pocket book. Good luck!!

Calorie counting is all about calories in vs. calories out.

Get a good kitchen scale with a tare feature. And nice measuring cups and spoons. It will save you hours of time over the course of a month of counting.

I just finished doing WW on my own. I felt a little too restricted with WW because you have to figure out the points for EVERYTHING. With calorie counting I can just input it on sparkpeople or, if I'm eating out, check their website and I know automatically what the calories are. I like that I can basically eat whatever I want. I'm not tied down to carrot sticks and Fiber one bars (not that those are bad things, I just don't want to eat them all the time and with WW I was in a rut). I recommend using a good calorie counting site that you feel comfortable with and working out as much as you can. Those two things will help you stay accountable and feel better. Hope that help!
