Default Canned fruit in WATER? What brands and where??

My mom is starting to diet and her WW meetings told her that she should be buying canned fruit packed in water...

She is specifically interested in canned pineapple.

She tells me she can't find it anywhere--- do you have preferred brands and what stores (we're in the NorthEast--- shop at Wegmans, Tops, Aldi, Save a Lot, adn Walmart Supercenter on occasion). She's on a tight budget, so cheaper brands=better brands.

Thanks!

I've never seen fruit packed in water (and I've shopped at stores in CT, PA, MD, DC, and VA)--maybe her counselor was confused! I know it's much better to buy it packed in juice rather than syrup. If she's really that worried about it, couldn't she just buy the juice-packed fruit and rinse it in a strainer? I would think packing it in water would take some of the flavor away (as the natural juice in the fruit would seep out into the water).

I don't know about packed in water, but I always buy canned fruit packed in its own juice, vs. in some kind of sugary lite or heavy syrup. Usually buy DelMonte or the store generic brand.

I haven't found any packed in water, but Dole has pineapple packed in pure pineapple juice. Then I just drain the juice out, I figure it's much better then syrup. The grocery store I go to also has their own brand but it's a PA only store.

I recall seeing fruit packed in water, but I didn't buy it because I assumed the flavor wouldn't be as good. I'd stick with the juice pack

I live in Canada, so maybe this wont help, but i have been able to find peaches, fruit salad and pears packed in water. I have never seen pineapple though, and would love to try it if i did, pineapple is my fave. As for brands *goes to check* ... ah unfortunately we don't have any of the fruit at the moment but i *think* the brand was dole. I'm pretty sure that the store brand was also available for the fruit. We don't have any of the stores you listed around here so this info probably wont be of any help. Wish i could be of more assistance

DelMonte makes "No Sugar Added" fruit packed in water--Though the only kinds I've seen are fruit salad, pears and peaches. They do contain some sucralose in the water (Splenda), I suppose to keep the sweet taste. I've tried both the pear and fruit salad kind that way, and I enjoyed it. It's been awhile since I've shopped for canned fruit, but I assume you could find it in the canned fruit section of the grocery store?

It is sometimes hard to find but Del Monte, Great Value (Walmart) and Fareway all carry it. I think it is great is a great option for me.
