A little surprised!

  • Today was my once a month weigh in. I lost 4 lbs.for the month. What I am surprised about is that I am on a 1200-1400 (most always 1200) calorie diet and I am not getting my 2 lbs a month. I am on a defecit that I should loose 2 lbs. a week. It is a little discouraging but I am 3 months in and commited to my new healthier lifestyle ( and I am loving the way I feel) I started out on a too low-cal 700 calorie diet for 8 weeks and after being educated and encouraged, I upped my calories to 1200-1400 for the last month. I am sure it has my metabolism all out of whack. I stayed at the same weight for 3 weeks. This last week it finally gave way and now I hope it is all good. I am determined to do this, and I am learning to do it the right way. I usually use all my calories a day for power foods (I usually eat all these every day: 100% whole grain, almonds, apple, banana, fish, spinach, yogurt ) Anyone else have a crazy start like me and can I expect more than a 4 lb. loss a month?
also 5 days a week (cardio for 30/walk for 30)
  • I don't have any answers for ya but just wanted to tell you I am right there with you. I have 10 pounds to show for two months. But I too am working out 5 days a week and my hubby keeps telling me I am building muscle and one of these days the muscle gain will have to give way to fat loss.
  • I have to eat very low in calories to lose consistently. It's because of my age and my very sedentary life right now (trucker). I lost on 1300 a day for the first few months, but had to drop it this year (I am on the 8th month). It's all in how you feel and if weight continues to drop, even a slow weight loss is wonderful to achieve! I try not to get too worked up about a slow loss pattern, sometimes it affects me more than other times. I went crazy about it over Dec and Jan, because I was ON plan and I kept gaining and losing the same 3-7 pounds!

    Congrats on the loss.
  • I am SO GLAD I am not the only one facing this! Since February I have eaten around 1300 calories a day and only have around ~10lbs lost to show for it. My boyfriend tells me not to be discouraged, that he can tell I'm losing weight. I have to say, though, that it's rather hard NOT to be discouraged when the scale isn't budging all that much and I don't see the changes in my body.

I know slower weight loss is supposed to be better, but geeeez. Can't a girl get a break?

I agree. I am having the same problems, cycling 1200-1600 cals a day, eating the SBD way, and working out 4-5x a week with cardio and strength training. I don't see a difference either in the way my clothes fit or the scale but what I have read a lot on the forums is to give it at least a few weeks or 1 month. so that's what i am doing, ha ha. until then i won't step on the scale!
