When you weigh yourself..
Do you use the first weight you see when you step on the scale or do you step on and off the scale a few times before considering it an official weigh-in?
I usually just record the first weight I see. This morning, however, I decided to try something different and do it a few times and boy was I surprised! I had weights ranging from 195.2-198.6! All within 2 minutes. Just curious what everyone else here does. Amy :) |
Oh boy. I do a little scale dance, and if I did it imperfectly, I try it again. I tend to take the first one, but if I feel like I pounced on the scale at all, I'll re-weigh. It's ludicrous. ;)
I usually take the first one, unless I was drunk and off-balance. (Just kidding! )
You're not weighing yourself on a rug, are you? That can throw scales off. Also, I've heard not to keep your scale in the bathroom because steam can eventually ruin it. |
I do a little scale dance too.. haha. I get up from bed.. use the bathroom and then strip. I weigh myself, but then I will wait a minute or two then try again. Sometimes its the same sometimes its different by .2 either up or down. But for the most part I go with the first number.
For example this morning the scale said 169.8, then I brushed my hair and it said 170.2.. then I waited again and it went back to 169.8. Scales are a mysterious thing... |
I just weigh once and get it over with. I keep telling myself that in the long run, what it says at any given moment isn't significant. If I exercise and eat correctly, then the scale will move downward over the course of time. It's hard not to be impatient. I want it to move down much more rapidly, but I know that is not realistic, so I take what it gives me and keep slogging along.

I didn't even think about trying more than once. Maybe I'll try on Friday (weigh in day) and see what it does. (I love Inuyasha BTW, my fav of all time @ shortandfluffy)

I weigh three times and take the average. The only weight I care about is monthend. Weight otherwise I look at as a indication if I am at the right calorie level.
That is why I tossed my digital scale and went back to a good old-fashioned one. If I stepped on 3 times, right in a row, I would get 3 totally different numbers that could vary by several pounds. Drove me nuts!!

I get on three times waiting a minute or so between each one just to make sure and if it's the same two out of the three then that's the weight. Although it's pretty much been three for three.
I weight once and might weigh again 30 min later. But I don't get on and off and on and off.
i weigh myself every morning at the same time using my Wii balance board .
LOL Thanks for all the input! Some of them were very entertaining to read :P .. I think I'm going to stick with the stepping on once. I also took my scale out of the bathroom today cause of the steam issue!
Just wanted to through in that my one scale never weighs me the same, where as my other scale is always within .2 of its weight after multiple weigh ins. Ironically my .2 scale is a cheaper one then my "always varies" scale.
I got rid of my old scale because I would get a different weight every time I stepped on it. The new one gives me the same weight every time, even if I reset it in between by getting on holding something heavy or having my son (40ish lbs) get on. When I get back on a second time, it's still the same weight. So no more scale dance for me!
I always weigh myself on my digital scale and then run into the other room and weigh myself on hubby's manual scale :D. They're usually the same.
I weigh myself once every morning after exercise and before breakfast (hoping to get the best result that way!! :)
I usually weigh three times because weirdly enough if I weigh three times 2 of those 3 weights will be the same. Like this 164.2 then 162.8, 162.8. Scale strangeness!
Gosh - my scale is at least 25 years old (not digital). I weigh usually a couple of times....it's usually the same weight both times. Once in a while a slight difference.
I weigh myself in the morning right after I go to the bathroom. Then naked... cuz those darn clothes weigh in from 3-5 pounds... =) I only do it once a day and thinking of switching to once a week... cuz the roller coaster of water weight in & out stresses me out!

old fashioned spring scale notorious for mistakes!!

After finding out that temp and humidity affects the spring on the old fashioned scales I stopped using them. |
Once and done for me...and sometimes a couple days between weights.

There's a doctor's scale in the bathroom of my office. I usually weigh myself first thing in the morning before my coffee. And on official weigh-ins, I make sure I don't wear heavy clothes or shoes.
If my number seems way off I'll reset the scale and try again. But usually I take the first number. Occasionally I'll do the scale dance but most of the time it comes up with the same number so I'm pretty comfortable with my scale. Although, once in a while my boyfriend will kick it accidentally as he walks by so it requires a reset when I'm all of a sudden up or down 20 pounds overnight. :)
Ahhhhh! I'm so glad that I'm not alone! My scale will go up and down sometimes by a pound or so within seconds, leaving me to think "How in the heck did I just gain/lose .6 lbs. just standing here!?"
Sometimes I'll weigh just once, sometimes I'll hop on and off a few times. I always take the lowest number :-) |
I do it a couple of times..I guess wishing it would go down even more..lol I weigh daily. First thing after I pee. In a t-shirt nightgown. That way I always have the same thing on. I have 2 daughters and out scale is in the kitchen so I didnt think streaking through the house would be a good thing for them to see lol
Just once. That's usually enough motivation to keep my calories controlled for the first few hours a a day. *whistling.... and wishing it would always keep me motivated for the last few hours of the day...
