Should I go up on calories?

  • I've been sticking to 1200-1400 calories per day, but for the last few days I have felt like I was starving after I work out. I workout in the afternoons for an hour. When I'm finished, I can't wait to eat dinner. Right now, I only use about 200 calories for breakfast, 400 for lunch, and 600 for dinner. Should I start consuming more calories and having a larger breakfast or add protein shakes? I'm at a lost, but I really am tired of feeling like I'm starving after I workout.
  • Hi, I eat my calories just the opposite of you. My biggest meal is breakfast - 450 calories(most of my carbs in the am), Lunch is 300 calories and my dinner is only is about 200 to 250 calories(lowest carb meal). Then I have room for a snack later. This is a fewer amount than you, 1050 calories total. I am small, so I don't need as many calories, but I am very active. I'm never hungry until closer to bedtime, that's when I have a snack( grapes and strawberry's). Maybe you need more fiber and protein in your meals. Every meal I have has fiber and protein. It really keeps you full and I feel terrific and full of energy, you should try it.
  • I would give it a shot. I was (and still am...when I stick to it) losing 1 to 2 pounds a week eating 1600 per day. I have a bigger breakfast...400 cals ish, and then my lunch/snacks for the day while I am at work total ~ 500. Then, dinner is 500, and an evening snack is 200.

This works for me...I am always full (as long as I make good choices), I feel like I am eating all the time, and it allows for a bit of wiggle room for the odd treat.
  • Give it a try. Can always adjust again.

    A.
  • I would try it. I was at 1450 and starving. Now I average 1650 (zig zagging) am losing faster and usually not hungry. I will say though that there seems to be some corelation between my hunger levels and where I am in my TOM cycle. Some weeks I'm still a little hungry at 1650 and some weeks I can barely eat 1400...you just have to keep tweaking til you find that sweet spot. Upping your cals a little for a week or two certainly won't do any damage.
  • You should try it. I only lose weight at 1800 or more calories a day, and my only exercise is walking and riding my bike. Some people just have different metabolisms.
