When I weigh my meat portions, am I supposed to do it before or after cooking?
I use fitday and it gives me the choice to enter it either way. What calculator do you use? Does it suggest one way or the other?
Personally I do it before. I also do veggies before. Not sure if that is wrong or right.
I have worked in the food industry for over 15 years and was taught you should always weigh your protein portion before cooking. This has also been true for any diet I have seen.
I use calorieking but it doesn't seem to specify before or after cooking, unless I just missed it somewhere.
Thanks everyone!
It's too hard to weigh it before, I always weigh it after.
I try to always weigh it before, because that's going to be the most consistent - the weight after cooking depends on how long you cook it, what method you use, etc.
For most meats in the calorieking database, I see multiple options, and they seem to say "cooked" or "raw" in most cases... along with things like "lean only", "no skin", etc... what kind of meat were you trying to enter that you didn't see these options?
I use calorie king and it indicates cooked or raw but not in all cases. I was always taught cooked meat shrinks a bit in the cooking process. I always go by the weight before cooking.
