On average....

  • ...how much weight do you guys lose per week? I have never done calorie counting before, so I'm curious what the average range *could* be. Now I know from doing Atkins for a long time, that everyone one is different and we all lose at our own rates. But I know typically, folks would lose about 2-3 pounds a week on Atkins, and I'm curious about calorie counting. I would love to know this so I can look forward to when I might be around my goal weight

    Thanks!!!!!
  • Typically people can consistently and safely sustain losses of 1/2-1% of their body weight.

When I first started calorie counting at 280 something pounds I was very consistent and regularly losing over 2 pounds a week (more at first). But I weighed a lot more. I don't think I could sustain that rate consistently now, at my current weight.
  • My weight loss averaged out to 2.4 pounds a week during the 50 weeks that I was losing but, like Heather said, it was faster in the beginning and slowed down to less than 2 pounds per week at the end.

The amount and intensity of exercise you're doing will have a lot to do with your average pounds lost per week.

The problem with trying to calculate a goal date is that bodies are notoriously fickle and uncooperative when it comes to numbers of the scale!
  • I have lost 1.5 pounds per week on average. Now I am losing a bit less but I am very close to goal.
  • I've been losing 2 pounds/week consistently, with a few weeks of 3 or 5 pounds.
  • This is great to know, thanks so much for your input ladies!!!!
  • I have lost up to 8 lbs in one week, on average I have lost between 1-4 lbs a week. It really varys with me, mainly depending on what I choose to eat. If I eat something salty or processed it slows my weight loss, If I eat more wholesome, lighter foods I lose faster.
  • Hpnodat, 8 pounds in one week?! JEALOUS! LOL Off topic but were you ever on the ADBB forum? I swear your name is so familiar! I was jsj0305 over there! LOL
  • I've lost about 2 lbs ont he average at the beginning of weight loss. The last 10-15 pounds came off at about 1 lb. per week. I think how much you lose is dependent in part on what you want. By the time I got close to my goal weight, I would have had to take my daily calories down too low to lose 2 lbs (to point where I would not have been able to sustain it) which is why consciously decided to eat more to slow down the weight loss.

    ADBB= Atkins Diet Bulletin Board?

Is that what you are referring to?

Yep, I'm a member there as well as a few of the other Atkins forums. Although I haven't been on in quite a while. I just cant do atkins or any other low carb plan It took me like 3 years & a 60 lb gain to figure it out. I don't learn very well do I? lol I'm much happier and physically & mentally healthier counting calories.

I think I remember you. Didn't we do some sort of a challenge together once?
  • i lose average of 1-2 lb/week. when my weight was higher, i lost 2-3

Same here at my heaviest I was doing about 2.5... Lately it's been about 2.0 and that's with a ton of exercise I have a feeling if I wasn't working out it would be more like .5 pound.
  • I averaged 1.7 lbs per week over 53 weeks. When I started, I lost 3+ lbs per week, at the end - maybe 3-4 lbs per month.
  • I average 1.5 pounds per week. I've never been a big loser (heh). Out of the 34 weeks I've been counting calories, I have only 9 weeks that are 2 pounds or over, and I have 9 weeks where I either had a small gain or no loss at all. But averaging it out, it's been 1.5 pounds a week. I'm not as disciplined as many of the chicks who count calories, obviously, but the slower pace works for me.
