Default Does anyone eat low fat?

I've pretty much ONLY been a calorie counter for my WL method and only quasi-successful. I eat whatever and try to keep it within a reasonable calorie range.

I'm wondering if anyone calorie counts and follows a low-fat diet?

As someone who is mostly vegetarian, I worry that by cutting out high fat foods like nuts and dairy, that I'll be losing out on my protein sources. I used to eat a lot of fake meat which is fairly low-fat but that's not really available where I live now in Asia.

Nope, I don't. If you are calorie counting I think you are perfectly fine to eat those higher fat foods.

I agree it is ok to eat higher fat foods so long as you are calorie counting. BUT, a lot of times I find that they won't fit with my calorie limits so I HAVE to find other alternatives, such as a low fat version so that I can feel full. It is not really that I am trying to eat low fat.

Needless to say, the dietary allowances from my SparkPeople acct. tell me that I need to add more fat. It wasn't too badly off and everything else was good. But today was a low cal day for me, so is tomorrow. It should look better by Tuesday.

I stick to healthy fats like olive oil. Organic peanut butter too yumm! I was always a bit paranoid because I read an extremely low fat diet is bad for your body.

No, not really. Some days happen to come out low fat. But more often I think I'm on the moderate fat side (30-40%). I'm also vegetarian, and I just don't feel I need to restrict (not that I go extreme either) olive oil, avocado and nuts. Dairy fat is not high, with usually about 1/2c Greek yogurt (2%) and often about 1 oz. of full-fat cheese.

I really find the fat makes my diet so enjoyable, and also filling.

I am trying to do it all now. Hubby has been diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs and also a heart condition. He has to eat low fat and a diabetic diet and count calories. He is also on a blood thinner than requires you not to eat certain foods often. Im trying to keep track of it all and eat what he eats. Hopefully this will help me shed the next 40 lbs.

My diet is pretty low-fat. You definitely need some fat in your diet, or your hair will fall out and you can have other health problems. I use a tiny bit of light butter every day. The only meats I eat are chicken (boneless, skinless breast), fish, and occasionally beef. I have almonds for my morning snack every day. And that's about it. Oh, and occasionally I'll use light ranch dressing on my salads.

For cooking on the stove I use Pam.

I lost 50 pounds eating a low fat diet; and I mean really low. And my hair did not fall out. I was 41.
13 years later, and I do eat some fat, but I measure it and am very careful. I use Earth Balance spread, olive oil, occasional butter, peanut butter, occasional avocado, and not much else in the way of fats.

I am vegetarian too and eat a "medium" fat diet. I vary my selections include nuts, nut butters, regular soy milk, greek yogurts and healthy oils in my daily diet. They keep me fuller and my body really needs the nutrients these foods contain.

I try to keep my fat between 20-25% of total calories each day. Fat helps to keep you full.

I'm a vegan calorie counter and I use olive oil, smart balance, nuts, nut butters, avocado... I don't ever worry specifically about fats, I usually just make sure they fit into my calorie budget.

I keep my fat between 30-40%. I believe that if you can use a low-fat version of something then do so. It works for me not to use up my calories on high-fat if I can choose a low-fat alternative. For instance, I use fat free half-n-half because I use so much of it, and because I can't taste a difference. I use 2% milk products like cottage cheese and hard cheese. I pick the leanest meats possible and trim all fat. I do watch my nuts but I won't eliminate them.

I don't count my fat grams. But being that I count calories most food with high fat would mean higher calories. Most foods such as cheese, butter, mayo, sourcream...come in low fat. So I do get those versions.

I do low fat but its naturally low fat. Its not like 'packaged item is processed to remove fat!'. My fat falls between 10-20% of my caloric intake. Some days I go without eating any added fats and think to myself that I should have a couple nuts, so I will.

I try to choose low fat meats and low fat dairy. The lower the fat the lower the calories and the more I can eat!
