Calorie Guide Books

  • Can anyone recommend any calorie guide books-- one that just lists the food and the amount of calories? I used to have a little pocket guide but I think it got thrown out. I have Nutrition books that have lists in the back but those are huge and not very user friendly.

I know there's the Biggest Loser calorie guide and I know I can track it online. I just spend enough time on the computer and paper & pencil seem to work better for me.

    Thanks!
  • I reccomend The Calorie King ...Calorie King Fat and Carbohydrate Counter
It has calorie counts also ethnic foods, restaurant foods as well as fast food and a lot of other info,. I would not be without it. You can usually find it at drug stores, I got mine at my HMO Pharmacy ( Kaiser )
. It is small enough to carry in your purse. You can also go online at www.CalorieKing.com
  • Calorie king is excellent but you cant get the info on their site for free.

I have a new one called "The Complete Calorie Fat and Carb Counter" by Alex LLuch...I have seen alot in this book for restaurants I have never seen in other books.

She asked for a book, I feferred her to CalorieKing site in case she can't locate a store selling it, she could order it online .
  • All processed boxes and cans have the info on the package.
that's easy. its non packaged foods that you have to find the calorie count for, how much is a cup of beets or 6oz of grilled chicken?
And then when you make your own recipe what is the total calories divided by servings?
that's the hard part. I have a little Random House Calorie counting book that lists mostly non processed foods.

Or buy it on Amazon or at any bookstore for cheaper...
  • Thanks for the recommendations. I'll take a look at them.
