Default fat/carb/protein question

I have been counting calories for 3 days now and I am tracking what I eat on fitday. I like how it calculates everything, but I am not sure how to interpret the fat/carb/protein graph. What percentages should I be aiming for? What are good percentages? I have never kept track of these aspects of my diet so this all new to me. Thanks for your help!!!!

I think that is rather personal and depends on your philosophy of nutrition. I try to eat high fat (yeah, weird I know) so I would aim high in that area...most people would not do that. I try to keep the carbs a little low even though I LOVE them. Protein, I like to be high too. You can do a search and find many recommendations. They even give you one on fitday, don't they?

I can't find it on fit day. I will try to google it and find out more info, but I was just curious as to why people try for different goals.

I can tell you my take... I am insulin resistant. that means metabolically, I cannot process carbs like everyone else, so I have to keep them low. I usually shoot for 40-50% fat 30-40% protien and 20% carbs.

I personally think its more important to look at the types of foods you eat versus the actual percentages. My carbs generally fall in the higher range, 60% to 70% and I'm happy there. My insulin 'issues' won't pop up unless I start eating refined/processed carbs. If I eat whole grains, fresh fruit, etc, I have no issues.
