Low-Cal Desserts?
unfortunately for my diet, i have a BIG sweet tooth... i am trying to keep it to one something sweet a day either after lunch or dinner, but it seems i have been eating the same things over and over.... like 100 cal snack packs or SF chocolate pudding (i do not like the jello). i was just wondering if anyone has any low-cal dessert ideas? i am afraid if i keep eating the same things i will get bored and start wanting the really bad stuff... please help if u can. thanks!

Like you, I have a sweet tooth! I think mine mostly stems from scouring ways to provide energy before I started this journey. And sweets are addictive! I also do the SF pudding a lot.
One thing I like to do is a Mocha Frappuccino every now and then. Not as low in calories as the pudding, but about the same as the 100 calorie packs and still very good. It consists of 1/3 cup of coffee, 1 cup of skim milk (90 cals), one teapsoon of ovaltine (10 cals) and I sometimes use regular sugar, but you can cut the cals with some 0 calorie sweetener of your choice, and then some ice. Blend it until you get the consistency you like. I have found I am pretty much adding ovaltine to anything I can, lol. Even strawberries (if you mix it with just a LITTLE skim milk like a few drops to each tbsp, it becomes fudgy-like). |
It might be worth it to look into ways to curb your sweet tooth a bit :). I'm doing the first phase of the South Beach Diet right now and sugar holds zero appeal to me right now. I did it because I was craving carbs all day and it was driving me nuts!
|
It's true. It took me a few days of no sweets to stop my cravings. The less you have the less you crave. Good luck.

I really like the WW ice cream bars! My favorite is the chocolate one covered in oreo cookie crumbs. They also make it in cookies in cream ice cream with the same cookie topping. They're both 140cal each and a great occasional treat!
They also make alot of ice cream cups for 130cal. The usual way I handle my sweet tooth is a bowl of cereal, usually Fiber One. It handles the craving & gives you lots of fiber. Niecy - Im going to try that mocha frap idea this weekend! THANKS, Im a coffee addict & it will be a nice treat :) |
I love the smart ones desserts, they are fantastic, I can usually split one over two desserts.
|
wow those are all great and very helpful ideas thank you everyone!
|
If you love lemon meringue pie like I do... Then a low calorie desert would be hunt's snack pudding lemon meringue. For 120 calories you get a DELICIOUS lemon pie, -crust. It's my absolute favorite thing to have when I just NEED a treat.
|
I love Stonyfield Farm's FF vanilla frozen yogurt, 200 calories for half the pint! I usually have a 100 calorie serving with 140 calories of my husband's special mail-order granola. :) So tasty.

Skinny cow ice cream sandwiches
Nonfat whipped cream on slightly thawed frozen berries no pudge fudge brownies for chocolate emergencies fruit, lots and lots of fruit sugar free jello (I have to make my own with gelatin, kool aide and splenda due to nutrasweet allergy) |
In the summer, I LOVE to make fruit cobbers with a light biscuit topping or oatmeal crisp.
|
fresh fruit smoothies are good with a bitof honey added in, warm up some berries (black, blue raspberries) and add on a dolup of low cal/fat cool whip, I just pulled some delicious banana bread out of the oven that is 100 cal per slice, dark chocolate. Shall I go on? ;)
|
popsicles
frozen raspberries fruit |
I have been having as snacks
Veggies sticks fruits skinny cow ice cream - YUMMY! |

Not a problem, I actually just googled and found it. Here's the link.
I added cinnamon to mine because I love mine to be cinnamony :) http://lowcaloriecooking.about.com/o...ananabread.htm |
I love No Sugar Added Fudgesicle Pops. They are only 40 calories each and taste just like a frozen chocolate milkshake.
I also love anything Skinny Cow. You can go on the website and look up the calories for the ice cream cones/sandwiches, fudge bars, and truffle bars. If I feel like I want an ice cream sandwich and don't have the skinny cow, I eat two sheets of graham crackers with a serving of Cool Whip. I spread a tablespoon of Cool Whip on each sheet and sprinkle a bit of cinnamon on top. Yum! |
I love the WW ice cream bars-- specifically the fudge bar and the popsicle with ice cream inside.
|
I just bought some of the Jello sugar free dulce de luche tonight and oh my gosh it is SO good! It's only 60 calories.
|
^^^I didn't know that Jello had dulce de leche. Where did you find them?
|
I got it at Publix in the refrigerated section by the cheeses. There were alot of different types of Jello hanging.
It is so yummy! |
^^We don't have Publix here. :( Maybe I'll try one of the huge chain grocery stores here in Chicago. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! And 60 calories?! You can't beat that with a stick. ;)
|
Last night I had a 60cal NOT sugarfree fudgesicle. It was great and I could have had about 6 more. But I didn't ;)
|
The Jello sugar free dulce de luche are at albertsons-savon here, which is Jewel-Osco in the midwest. Most chain grocery stores carry them near the cottage cheese, yogurt area. My parents find them at copps, IGA, and i think even at super walmart.

FF fudgsicle mixed with some ff coolwhip & fruit
1/2 cup plain yogurt placed in freezer for 20 minutues then add some vanilla extract to sweeten it (or teaspoon of s/f jam or syrup) & sometimes I crumble a cookie on top |
I like to snack on frozen mangoes when I have a sweet craving! Yummm!
|
I like this crustless pumpkin pie recipe that I found on Linda's Low-Carb website. It has the added bonus of being both low carb AND low calories:

Wow. I am glad I checked out this thread. I am definalty adding some of this stuff to my shopping list. Thanx Everyone.
|
I put together a strawberry short cake with about 200 calories for a big serving. I get it all from walmart, they have a sugar free angel food cake, sugar free strawberry glaze, fresh strawberries and some cool whip from the can.
|
Denise - Mmm! I just got some strawberries at the farmers market today. Thanks for the idea!
|
I don't like glazes, they are too sweet for me. I make my strawberry shortcake with a 80 calorie shell, 50 calories worth of thawed and warmed frozen strawberries, and 15 calories of fat free whipped cream with is quite a lot, actually. total = 145 calories
|
I have been eating graham crackers with light laughing cow cheese spread on top. Tastes like cheesecake! Fresh fruit on top would be good too.
|
I second fruit. I add a bit of cool whip or hershey's chocolate syrup on fresh fruit and it is just like dessert, except at least I'm still getting the nutrients from the fruit too and it's not JUST empty calories. Yum. Frozen banana + cool whip & chocolate syrup = <3
|
I freeze ff cool whip and then nuke 1/4 cup of frozen blueberries and pour it over the cool whip. It tastes like hot blueberry pie....
|
The artificial sweeteners in the sugar free stuff might be making your cravings worse. If you must have something sweet, try having something that is either naturally sweet or something small with real sugar.
I like fresh fruit or 100 calories worth of very dark chocolate. |
