sick durning workout? and other questions

  • Okay tonight while I was working out I felt like I could throw up (TMI), I dont know why and I have never felt like this before in over 2 months of working out. Im not sure if im not hydrated enough? not eating enough? not getting enough sleep? what do you think? I cut my workout short because I just felt sick.

    Other questions:
I went from working out 4 days per week to working out 5 days per week the last 2 weeks almost therefore burning more calories. My question is should I be eating more? I did the calorie calc at free diet and it had higher cals than what im eating. Im wondering this because this last week I have been SO HUNGRY! Like all day long im pretty much hungry and I dont get it.

    So any thoughts? advice?
  • Hard to say exactly w/out knowing more.

How much are you eating now? What are you eating? Are you eating before working out? How much water are you drinking?

All of those things could be a factor. I know that I *have* to have a snack before a really hard workout or I will get sick feeling. I can't eat a lot - a full stomach also makes me sick. But I need some carbs and some protein or I'll get woozy and nauseated.

I also get sick if I work too hard, no matter what I'm doing. I actually did it to myself tonight a little - I was doing HIIT on the elliptical and after round 5 I was really queasy. I didn't puke, but I felt like I might. So I toned down my 6th and final interval. I think it was a combination of too much exertion and too little water (I forgot my water bottle and so I didn't have any at the gym).

I do suspect that the hunger is from ramping up your workouts. Again, let us know what you're eating and we can maybe offer some suggestions.

  • I had dinner about an hour before hitting the gym. I always have a small snack after the gym and drink water during my workout.

Today was an errand day so I didnt eat as good as I normally do

    B- Oatmeal with blueberries
    S- sting cheese and triscuits
L- BK hamburger iwth pickles mustard only, banana and yogurt I got from subway at walmart..lol
D- Roasted chicken with potatoes and green beans slice of bread
    S- Apple

I normally eat 1800 calories per day> some days its 1600-1700 others 1900
I typically drink at least 3-4 bottles a water a day some days more but always that many so about 48oz
  • What I've heard is that a small snack containing protein 30 minutes before a workout is good--not sure that a whole dinner would be, but I'd think an hour is enough time. Did you finish eating an hour before, or did you start eating an hour before?

My guess is that your workout was too strenuous and that's why you felt nauseated. When we do really strenuous exercise, the body shuts down the digestive system to send more blood to the muscles.

It's OK to ease off if that happens. Maybe eat more lightly or a bit earlier, on the evenings when you work out.
