Does anyone know roughly what range of calories might be in a sweet slice? You know, the kind you get from cafes- walnut slices, ginger slices, raspberry jam slices? I just cant find anything anywhere that tells me how much might be in anything resmbling that

I wish I could help - but haven't the faintest idea of what a sweet slice is! Is it a pastry? Bread? Candy? Whatever, it sounds lovely. I want a sweet slice!

If it's either candy or pastry (as long as it's not fatty or greasy) 100 calories (kilocalories) per ounce (28g), is generally a good estimate.

If I know there's fat in it, I generally estimate about 125 calories per ounce.

Yep, we have them and they generally are called bars, brownies, blondies, squares, pan cookies or bar cookies. Lemon bars or lemon squares are my favorite. A thick lemon curd over a shortbread crust, and a dusting of powdered sugar over the whole thing. Aagh, if I really want one, I have to buy one, because if I make them I'd eat the entire pan. They're probably is a little fat in them, but I'd still guess that 100 to 110 calories per ounce would be a good estimate.

A blondie is usually a specific kind of bar cookie (or buiscuit). It's basically a brownie without chocolate (or perhaps a brownie is a blondie with chocolate?)

Usually breads, pastries, and buiscuit/cookies do work out fairly well to the 100 calories per ounce. One ounce of a lowfat bread like italian bread with no added fat is anywhere from 60 to 80 calories per ounce. Shortbread cookies and cakes more like 100 per ounce. And cookies with quite a bit of butter or shortening in the ingredients 110 - 150 calories per ounce (or more, since there are some pretty sneaky ways to add fat and calories).

Like my friend makes this chocolate cake from a cake mix that would only be 120 calories for 1/12 of the mix (probably about an ounce or so), if he would just make the cake and leave it at that with no frosting. Instead, he pours sweetened condensed milk or sundae toping (like fudge or caramel sauce) over the whole thing, tops with whipped cream or chocolate frosting, and then crumbles candybars over the top. One bite probably has as many calories as a plain unfrosted piece of cake.
