Default Sweet Potato Fries?

Okay, so I bought "Sweet Potato Frites" from Trader Joes this past weekend and just went to go to put them into the oven. I read the package (something I must have skipped while shopping in a daze) and realized there are 190 calories in 3 oz! 3 oz really isn't very much when spread out on a pan, especially for 190 calories.

Is this unusually high for sweet potato fries?
Which brands do you buy?

I just use real sweet potatos and chop and season them myself. Here's the nutritional info on them, 95 calories a cup: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?t...dspice&dbid=64

Yeah, the real stuff is best. Butternut squash fries taste similar and are worth a try.

i have made them for my little guy

I just cut a sweet potato into fry like pieces, sprinkle with salt and pepper and you can either toss in a slight amount of olive oil (or whatever you use) or spray with no stick spray and just bake about 40m or so on 400 or until they are nice and soft but crispy.

You could also make sweet ones and sprinkle with a bit a cinnamon.

I cut into slices and spray them with cooking spray and toss them with salt, pepper, garlic powder and sometimes cumin. I spread them on foil over a baking sheet and bake them for about 20 minutes at 400. If I want them extra crispy, but not burned I will nbake them for 15-20 minutes at 350 and then toss them in the broiler (but be careful- they will burn!).

They are so yummy. I have to be careful with them, though. They are so good for you, but they trigger hunger in me so I have to watch it I can't be trusted with the gigantic ones, so I buy them very small so I know there's no guessing on how many servings.

How do you all season your sweet potato fries?

Salt, pepper, chili powder and olive oil. Sometimes I add a dash of turmeric, but it's the chili powder that really does it for me.

I like them just plain. Lime and chili powder is good, too.

I make them homemade usually. I drizzle olive oil and cinnamon on them. I precook them in the microwave for five minutes or so to soften them a bit, thenI bake them about 20 min or so each side at 450, and if i want them crispier then i broil them for a few minutes. They are so good.

Definitely homemade. You can control the amount of oil and other ingredients that way.

1 medium sweet potato (about 100 grams) has ~100 calories.
Add 1/2 T of olive oil for another 80 calories
I like mine with just a sprinkle of salt, but you can also add chili powder, curry seasoning, or cinnamon if you want.

Sometimes I cut them like fries (in strips) and sometimes I slice them thin like chips.

A whole potato's worth of fries is then under 200 calories.

.

Wow! That is a much better calorie deal than what comes in 3 oz. worth of frozen bagged fries. I'll have to try making them myself. Curry is an interesting idea

I don't like sweet potatoes, but I made some sweet potato fries the other day to go with a bison burger.

I sliced the potato up like french fries, and placed them into a ziploc bag, drizzled them with olive oil, and sprinkled them with garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, and salt.

Baked them for approximately 20 minutes at 400 degrees, turned them, and baked for another 20 minutes. Deelish. And I don't even like sweet potatoes.

I slice up regular old sweet potatoes into steak fry sized pieces, spray on some olive oil cooking spray so they don't stick and season with black pepper and a light shake of Goya Adobo, single layer on the pan and bake at 450 for 12-15 minutes depending on how thick they are. serve with ketchup the entire family loves em and they are very low calorie.

As Ever
