Default Lasagna

Good morning, all!

I have a question about lasagna which some people don't eat at all, maybe. Last night my boyfriend and I made lasagna which I love, but I can't ever figure out the calories. I'm ok having a small portion with lots of veggies as a side, but whenever I look it up on the online calorie counters it gives the portion size by weight. I know that's the most accurate measure, but I don't have a scale, and I would like to get an estimate based on the size of the piece, even though I know it would just be a ballpark figure.

Does anyone else every have this problem?

This is very, very easy, once you learn how. What you need to do, is add up the calories of each indivdual ingredient that you put into your lasagna.

Then, to get the calories per slice, you divide the total calories by how many slices you cut the pan into. If the whole recipe were 3000 calories, and you cut it into 10 slices, then it would be 300 calories a slice.

For a homemade recipe, you need to do it this way, because everyone's lasagna recipe is going to be different.

I do just what aphil does...

My husband hates when I cut up the lasagna into pieces, because that makes him feel like he's eating TOO much, but I tell him to deal with it and eat less if he feels bad!!

Thank you! That's a great idea.

aphil's approach is the best way.

FitDay has lasagna in the database, and you can view it by size. For example, for "lasagna, with meat and/or poultry" a piece approx. 2-1/2" by 4" is said to have 328 calories. A piece approx. 3-1/2" by 4" is 370 calories. But of course it depends on the ingredients. FitDay has many different types of lasanga listed.

It depends on how close you want your count to be.

MindiV, if your husband doesn't like the lasanga cut up into pieces, how does he eat it? Just sits down with the pan and a spoon?
