Pizza with no cheese and no toppings?

Does anyone have a rough (or exact!) Idea of how much a thin slice of pizza would be with no cheese or toppings? So basically just the bread, crust, and tomato sauce.

One slice of Papa John's with cheese is only 240 calories. If you take off the cheese it would bring it under 200 for sure.

I have regular grocery store bought crust in the refridge. For 1/6 of a 12", it is 190 calories and the sauce is 90. That is about half the calories than take out because the crust isn't coated with oil/butter.

I use onion pitas for my crust (150 calories)
seasoned tomatoes as sauce (50 calories in 1/2 cup)
and 1/4 cup of skim mozzarella cheese (forget how many calories)
It is delicious and not many calories, seems to fill me up!

Well, what type of crust was it? Thin, thick, crispy, deep dish? And the approximate size of it?
You have a wide variety of calories here.

Oh, I haven't had any, I was just wondering in case I got stuck going to a pizza place with friends and I wanted to not over-indulge.

A pizza hut thin crust veggie lovers pizza - 1 slice from a medium pizza - is 190-ish calories. So you can base it on that.

Thick crust pizzas or pizzas with meat on them are going to be more, obviously.

FitDay has an entry for Pizza, No Cheese, Thin Crust, 1/8 of 12" diameter: 139 cal, roughly 4g fat, 22g carb, 3g protein

But I would definitely add the veggie toppings, just skip the cheese, and meat if you want too.

Wow I can't imagine pealing the cheese off my pizza - why not just eat half a slice? I think without knowing how many inches the pizza is and the slice count it would be hard to tell ya the calories.

My favorite part of the pizza is actually the bread with tomato sauce and the crust. I can take or leave the cheese, and I hate toppings that aren't meat. So I'd much rather just have plain pizza, no toppings or cheese.

I've also read that if you blot the top of the pizza with a napkin, you remove a lot of the grease from it and remove some bad calories/fat as well.

Thanks everyone for your responses :)

Get the breadsticks! That's basically what you're left with and they'd be cheaper, too. :)

I'm the polar opposite! I feel like the crust is just a vehicle for the cheese. I think I was a mouse in a previous life :mouse:

I'm with ya, Zima. The crust and tomato sauce is my favorite part of the pizza too and I can take or leave the cheese. In fact, I really hate it when there's too much cheese. Cheeseless pizzas are the way to go (I like veggie topping)! But like someone else said, since you don't want any topping, you might as well get the breadsticks lol.

Aren't breadsticks more calories?

I don't know, but I know breadsticks ain't the same as pizza crust. I looooove pizza crust, and I rarely like breadsticks, they're usually tasteless and crunchless.

Zima 07-16-2008 02:31 PM

Exactly, Julie. Plus, I love the dough on pizza, how it's kinda undercooked because it's covered with the cheese and toppings and such. Mmm.
