Diet pop
I am a HUUUUGE diet pepsi drinker, and I tried something different the last 3 days!
Up until 3 days ago I would have 1 or 2 glasses of water and the rest of the day it was diet pepsi, I know its terrible! 3 days ago when I came on here complaining about still being at 199.0 I decided to stop drinking so much diet pepsi. NOW when I wake up its my rule to drink 2 bottles of water before I'm allowed to have a diet pepsi and through out the day, every time I drink a diet pepsi I have to drink 24 oz of water before I can have another diet pepsi. I weighed in this morning and in just 3 days I went from 199 to 196! Can that be from the soda??? I'm amazed if it is from the soda lol |
That's fantastic! There is soooo much sodium in soda... diet or not and it makes us retain so much water. It makes such a difference when we cut back on sodium.
|
That's a great rule for yourself!!
|
Awesome!!Congrats!I too love my diet mountain dew,and have cut it out alot..I am trying to drink a soda maybe once every 2 to 3 days, and I will hopefully have a better loss as you did this friday!
|
That is super..I love diet pepsi...and I have done the same thing months ago. I force myself to have 40 or more ounces of water before I can have a can or bottle of pop. Then if I want more, then I make myself have another litre of water first, so usually that ends the thirst for the second diet pop...
CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
It's the sodium, Dawn. Now you see why the scale sticks.
|
Oh well done!! Its all about fine tuning our intake!! Yay for you!
I am a Pepsi Max fan.. :( I allow myself one glass a day as I dont drink tea, coffee or anything...just my one glass a day of Pepsi Max and 2litres of water! |
I didn't think it was the pop since I was still losing in the beginning, I'm happy to say that I still haven't had a pop this morning but I have a MAJOR headache! I still have my water to finish, so then maybe I'll have one with lunch :)
|
You sound just like me!!!! Some days it would be nothing to drink 6 or 7 diet sodas. I also work weekend nights, so on weekends I really go over board. As I get closer to my goal weight, my weight loss has really slowed down. Someone else told me just the other day that I could probably loose the last 5 if I cut out the diet sodas. I really didn't believe them, but maybe they knew what they were talking about! Your idea is great. I will also try it. Good luck to you!
|
I'm going to have to try this. I started out drinking LOTS of water but lately I have really been putting away some Diet Pepsi! I just love having the flavor. I have to have really super cold water... never did like water lol still have to make myself drink it.
Great post! I'm glad I saw it today as my scale has been slooooowing down quite a bit as well. |
Dawn, I tend to retain weight when I drink diet pop, and I usually drop a pound or two when I stop drinking it for a few days. Lately I've been trying to drink seltzer instead and wean diet pop out of my life.
|
Interesting thread. It got me to thinking that maybe I should give up my diet soda habit, too. :chin:
Sooo.....I think that maybe once my stores of diet pop are gone, I won't buy any more and see how that works out for me. I won't lie: I'm going to miss my Diet Mountain Dew Code Red and Diet Brisk Lemon Tea! :( |
This thread is a real eye-opener for me. I didn't realize that diet soda could actually slow your weight loss. I never really gave the sodium in soda that much thought.
Why does soda have so much sodium, anyway? I don't drink a lot of diet soda. A can a day or every other day. My son usually ends up drinking more of my diet soda than I do. Guess that is a good thing, after all. My biggie, besides water is Crystal Light Peach Tea. Think I should check the sodium content of that stuff... |
There are only 35mg of sodium in 1 can. hmmmmm Thats not a lot is it?
|
Twenty-five mg per eight ounce serving. A 20-ounce bottle has 62.5 mg of sodium. How many mg were you pounding down a day? Add that to the processed foods you eat (I heard you mention pita bread and cheese and spaghetti sauce) and I'm sure you exceed the "safety" zone.
It all adds up faster than you know. |
Well, what is the RDA for sodium? 2000mg ? (I forget).
So, I guess it depends on how many you drink. (as a comparison I just looked at my skim milk--it has 130mg sodium per 8oz serving.) My friend just told me the other day that her husband drinks 12 cans of Mtn. Dew per day, so I'd say in his case, that's alot of sodium!! |
Quote:
I just checked my canister of Crystal Light Peach Tea. No sodium. :carrot: Just have to keep track of the calories. :D |
My favorite :soap:  IMHO, for a lot of people (like lil ol me) it's the artificial sweeteners. There are plenty of people who do just fine using them but I couldn't get the scale even started moving in the right direction until I gave them up. I'm not a scientist so I couldn't begin to tell you why but my body seemed to react to the 1/2 gallon or so of Crystal Light I was drinking every day as if it were full sugar kool-aid.

::I stand up::
Hi. My name is Judi and I am a diet coke addict. {Hi Judi} My addiction was the equivalent of more than 2 liters per day. I found that once I switched over to green tea (I make a pitcher of sun tea, and add mint and lo-cal sweetener), I abruptly dropped several pounds. So, now I drink about a gallon of the tea per day (it isn't very strong - almost like colored water), with only the occasional can of diet coke (once a week is about it). The headache will pass - once your body detoxifies from all the caffeine. Good on ya, mate! ::sits back down:: Edited to add: I use the pink and or the blue sweetener, but am working towards using just stevia. |
Awesome! Diet soda will do that to you, really, which is why I won't let myself exceed 1 can per day (or otherwise I really bloat up like crazy). After a while you don't even really like it anymore. :/

I used to be a Diet Coke-aholic. I drank coffee, then diet coke all day long. I never thought I could give it up. But, I went through a period where I just felt draggy all the time and decided to go cold turkey on the diet coke to see if that would help and maybe help my cravings for snacks along with it. I still drink coffee but only in the mornings mostly, maybe decaf in the evening or an iced tea (unsweetened) if we are out. Water is my mainstay during the day. It's been over 2 years now (I have lost track) since I had any kind of pop. I try to keep the artificial sweeteners to a minimum in my life now. I accidentally took a drink from my dh's diet coke as it was in the same type of cup as my tea once about a year after I'd gave it up. I had to spit it out, it was the strangest sensation (bubbly and burning) on my tongue and was horribly sweet tasting. I do not know how I ever developed a taste for it. I thought I'd have cravings for it but I didn't. I must have hit upon quitting at just the right time for me. When I first gave it up, I figured it would be a short time, then I'd go back to a can a day or something. I've had no desire to start drinking pop again. I do like a club soda every once in a while, mostly when I fly.

*WOW*
I am down to 195.5 today, so thats a 4 pound loss since I stopped the constant drinking of pop :O I think some of it is water retention from TOM since its due to come on Monday, but I'm still in shock!!!! Deer Park is coming this morning to bring 3- 5 gallons of water along with the dispenser *Thanks to my husband* :) |
I had a similar experience. I used to drink 2-3 diet sodas a day, and then in April I decided to quit cold turkey. I had been stuck at 128 lbs for weeks, and then after I quit the diet soda I dropped 3 lbs in 3 weeks! It was amazing. I don't know for sure if I can attribute it to the diet soda -- I mean, scientifically speaking, it has no calories and very little sodium. But the facts speak for themselves. I've officially gone 3 months without diet soda.
|
I have been at 125 for for a almost a month. Well, I weighed in this morning, and I am down to 123!!!! The only thing I have done differently this week is up the water and cut waaaaaay back on the diet soda! I have not lost 2 lbs in a week for a long time. I'm so exited!!
