Default Those who use the daily plate...question..

Hey all,

how accurate are the calculations for calories burned when you plug in an activity?

Do you eat these calories or try to just stick within your range and not eat them?

I don't pay any attention at all to the calories it says I have burned in exercise. I don't think it's right, but that's just my opinion.

Instead, I focus on the top number: the total calories I've consumed that day.

I do not eat the extra calories either.....I stay within my daily calorie intake as close as possible just because then I have a slight cushion if I would go over 1 day.

I don't use them either, I just pay attention to the top number...mainly for the same reason as StillTryin'--If I have a bad day, I'm still technically under. I feel like it's good training.

However, I'm sure you will still lose weight if you pay attention to the bottom number.

I don't track activity with DP. Their figures seem to be way off, and I think the whole "net" calories thing is entirely too confusing anyway.

I have my calorie level set for 1500 and I exercise w/out tracking the additional calories burned.

The last time I looked, the calories burned were way too high. I would just stick within whatever range you've picked. If you add a significant amount of exercise then consider increasing your calories slightly.

Okay, that's what I thought too. It sounds like it's better to kind of ignore the calories burned and stick to the calories allotted for the day. I like the idea of if you happen to go over a little, you are still in the game. Plus I would think you'd see losses on the scale by not eating the exercise burned calories.
thanks!

I use a HRM that calculates the calories and Fitday is totally whacked. I plug in what the monitor tells me I did in the gym and just blow off all the other stuff.

I dont use the extra calories after a workout..I go by what the treadmill or elleptical at the gym state, and just manually enter the calories and cardio work out that way..I exercise to loose, not to eat more,so I just ignore those "extra calories"

I love TDP because they have so much more in their database compared to other sites. but, when I first joined it really had me confused. I talked to my personal trainer. She told me not to pay attention to the calories burned or net calories and to definitely not eat them back unless I hit a plateau or was getting very tired and needed to up my calories then.

I put in my exercise, but ignore the calories burned, and I do *not* eat them back. Calories burned are bonus for me.

I find the calories burned somewhat accurate, based on my HRM - close enough for government work LOL!
