what's for lunch?

I was curious what you guys eat for lunch while at work. I usually eat those frozen meals (lean cuisine, smart ones, healthy choice). I was curious what everyone else eats! Thanks!!!

luckymommy 06-22-2008 06:05 PM

I work from home, but I can still answer, can't I? ;) I love to eat a tortilla from La Tortilla Factory (Low Carb, high fiber, 5g of protein, 50 calories each) and I stick a warmed up Flame Grilled Boca Burger (100 calories). This fills me up for a very long time and I will eat it with baby carrots. Just an idea. :)

DayByDay 06-22-2008 06:17 PM

I eat a sandwich made out of Brownberry Natural Flax & Fiber Bread, Avocado (spread thin, not chunks), sliced Roma tomatoes and thinly sliced onion. I also have a small sized Stonyfield organic yogurt and some fruit, like a few organic strawberries. Later in the afternoon, I have a small organic apple.

PhotoChick 06-22-2008 06:26 PM

A whole variety of things. I tend to plan out my meals on Sundays (in fact that's what I'm doing now - planning my week). This week I plan to have:

Monday - leftover grilled chicken and an avocado on baby spinach salad.
Tuesday - tuna salad (made with low fat mayo and dijon mustard) on wasa crackers and watermelon
Wednesday - eating out wiht a friend - prob go to Chipotle and have a veggie salad bol
Thursday - veggie potstickers (steamed in the office microwave)
Friday - 1/2 a pbj sandwich on whole grain, apple w/ Dubliner cheese, maybe more watermelon

All of this is stuff that can be packed up the day before and then I just grab it and go on my way out the door!

.

DMNewman 06-23-2008 08:35 AM

2 cups of lettuce, half cup of shredded chicken, 1 cup of broccoli and 2 TBSP of free french dressing.

Mithosa 06-23-2008 09:17 AM

Today - - 2 cups of lettuce, Wishbone Tuscan Romano Basil Salad dressing, 1 whole wheat mini bagel and a wedge of Laughing Cow cheese.

Tomorrow - - A chicken breast wrap with 1 oz pepper jack cheese, 1 small apple and a small side salad.

That's as far as I've thought ahead. I do keep a couple of frozen meals in the freezer at work for emergencies. ;)

valley 06-24-2008 01:22 PM

I'm bad for lunch...I usually eat an apple or a peach and then an hour later, I grab a piece of whole grain bread and maybe an ounce of cheese. Some days, I eat a yogurt and a salad...i'm not one for a big sit-down lunch. I have a full dinner and pretty much graze the rest of the day and night on small calorie things.

Mom2QJandT 06-24-2008 01:29 PM

I like the South Beach Diet chicken salad kits. I eat one of those and a yogurt usually.

peachcake 06-24-2008 03:12 PM

I have been eating the Betty Crocker Bowl Appetit lunches. They have between 230-360 calories and are really good. The lean cuisines got really old really fast for me, I HATED the chicken in those, all fatty. I like these ones, they're not technically "Diet food" but my luinch limit is 400cals so this is just under and I can still have a little fruit if I want.

meggoat 06-24-2008 04:11 PM

Today I forgot my lean cuisine and was in a jam. I ended up having a BLT on rye toast with no mayonnaise which was flavorful, satisfying and surprisingly not too caloric (3 pieces of bacon). Looking forward to the VERY DELICIOUS Kashi frozen dinner tonight, though. They are incredibly filling and relatively healthful for people like me who need rigid portion control...
Tomorrow I pick up my veggies/fruit allotment from the farmer's market and am hoping for some fresh eating for a few days.

mandalinn82 06-24-2008 04:33 PM

I make double portions of my dinner meal, then package them up in tupperware. Every day I have leftovers, and so long as my dinner the night before was on plan, my lunch will be too.

If I don't have leftovers for whatever reason, I will take an Alternative Bagel, top it with a small can of tuna, sprinkle on some cheddar cheese, and cook up in the toaster oven.

PhotoChick 06-24-2008 05:09 PM

Yesterday: 1/2 pbj sandwich (organic pb and organic spreadable fruit on whole grain bread), watermelon
Today: 1/2 pbj sandwich, apple, v-8

(yeah, I'm on a pbj kick this week, but tomorrow I might be a crazy woman and have tuna on a wasa cracker - and it's so not what I planned earlier ... but I'm craving pb)

OnceUponADrive 06-24-2008 05:27 PM

I eat a half turkey sandwich made with pumpernickel bread and I spread on a wedge of Laughing Cow light swiss cheese. I usually eat it with applesauce or a cup of fruit (watermelon today).

skinnyinside7 07-06-2008 03:10 PM

Whats for lunch..

I find that i do enjoy the lean cuisine meals because i know how many calories i am having with out having to worry about it. I will usually suppliment them thu with carrot sticks from home and its a lasting lunch for me. Plus they arent too expensive.

luckymommy 07-06-2008 03:16 PM

I like either the Lean Cuisine pannini's, or an organic bean burrito from Amy's (under 300 calories and very filling). When I'm really cutting my calories, I eat a boca burger (flame grilled) with a Low Carb La Tortilla Factory tortilla (50 calories) and some veggies inside too. That fills me up and is very low in cals, although I know all my choices are very high in sodium.

SoulBliss 07-06-2008 03:31 PM

Today:

Salad with mixed greens, cooked cauliflower, zucchini and carrots, baby grape tomatoes, baked savory tofu, chickpeas and garlicky rice wine vinaigrette

Cucumber "chips" with basil pesto (basil, Moroccan olive oil, Himalayan sea salt, white and red pepper, lemon, nutritional yeast and toasted pepitas)

Sparkling berry essence water with lime squeezed in

AnAbsoluteDiva 07-06-2008 09:21 PM

Like Mandalinn, lunch is whatever dinner was the night before.

It beats frozen prepared foods, and I know I don't add chemicals or preservatives to my food.

BlueToBlue 07-09-2008 04:35 AM

I will often pick out a recipe I'm interested and make four servings of it on the weekend, then package it individually for lunch during the week. For dinner, I'm cooking for the two of us and I have to find recipes we both like. This way I get to make recipes that I like but I my SO doesn't (he's on his own for lunch).

I also have several favorite wraps or sandwiches that I make regularly for my lunch.

And I love to pound a chicken breast flat with a meat mallet, then saute it and serve it with a sauce of some sort (e.g., marinara) or stuff it with reduced fat cheese, herbs, and fruit or veggies and broil it. I eat it with polenta (pre-cooked from a tube) and sauteed spinach.

snapplegirl69 07-09-2008 09:10 AM

Most of the time I will have a lean cuisine..Once in awhile I will have a tuna sandwich on lite italian bread or a chicken sandwich

hmtklein 07-09-2008 03:23 PM

I eat 1/2 cup black beans, half a cucumber, a tomatoe, 1/4 cup 2% shredded cheese, 2 mushrooms and lite creamy ceasar dressing
or Dunkin Donuts egg & ham on english muffin
or Mcdonald's chicken sandwich with ketchup and mustard instead of mayo (they usually know it's me in the drive through when they hear that order I think) :-)

StillTryin 07-09-2008 03:59 PM

Yesterday and today I had lite peanut butter and sugar free polaner all fruit spread sandwiches. I usually do not eat sandwiches but I had the most awsome craving for it. I bet this is the first time in 4-5 years I ate a PB & J! They cost me about 320 calories so I can not make a habit out of it...

I usually eat some soup at lunch.

ashley916 07-09-2008 11:28 PM

today i went to walmart and got luna bars (they were on sale for 75 cents so i just bought the entire case of 15!) so that is what i had for lunch. 180 calories and full of protein and other vitamins that i'm usually lacking, according to fitday =)

note to self: go shopping for healthier food. this house is FULL of tempting junk. i'm sure my dad's girlfriend would appreciate it too since everyone in this house is now on a diet haha

KellyLou 07-09-2008 11:50 PM

I alternate between a lean cuisine (the brick oven pizzas are awesome) and salad. For my salad I mix together spring mix lettuce, cucumbers, tomato, and my dressing of olive oil, red wine vinegar, grey poupon, garlic, and pepper. It's yummy!

Horo 07-10-2008 03:56 PM

Today I'm having a boca burger (100 calories) on two crustless pieces of whole wheat toast (60 calories) with, on one side, a laughing cow cheese wedge (35 calories) and on the other, a tablespoon of barbecue sauce (25 calories). This combination has become a favorite of mine recently because it's very tasty and filling for only 220 calories. =)

FB 07-10-2008 04:10 PM

MMM! This thread is making hungry for lunch although I just had lunch.

Today was spicy steamed shrimp on spring mix with blueberries, green onions and a few walnuts. Topped with some really good savory dressing, Woodstock by Annie's Naturals (which is tahini and tomato I do believe).

StillTryin 07-10-2008 04:40 PM

Today I had keilbasa sausage (A BIG NO NO, HIGH IN FAT/CALORIES) I only had 10 minutes at lunch time and DH already had this made at home when I got there....OH WELL!!!

hereicome 07-20-2008 07:00 PM

I have been having a chopped salad with any veggies I have, even if not my favorite, I chop up so small I don't taste it, I add chicken breast or a boca burger and use salsa for the sald dressing because I don't like many unless full of fat.Another lunch, boca burger ,1/2 c black beans and 1/2 c salsa on top.

CyndiM 07-20-2008 07:38 PM

As others do I make more than a dinner amount in the evening and take leftovers for lunch most days. When I don't have anything I usually grab a veggie burger and pick up a salad at the co-op. I keep a bottle of lf dressing in the fridge at work.

mygems 07-20-2008 11:03 PM

More often then not I have Subway. I have a 6" parmesan and oregano bread veggie sandwhich, no cheese, tons of veggies, vinigrette and pepper.

Subway is just around the corner at work so it's convenient, cheap and delicious!

JigglyBits 07-21-2008 04:32 AM

- three bean salad + cucumbers + cherry tomatoes + corn canned + lemon and olive oil dressing.
- wasa crispbread with grilled eggplant hummus.
- turkey on whole wheat with loads of veggies and mustard.
- greek salad made of cucumbers, romaine, tomatoes, black olives, thyme, l/f feta + lemon and oil dressing (my fav!)
- 1/2 a grilled chicken breast wrapped in a pita bread with tzatziki sauce (yogurt and shredded cucumbers and a hint of garlic) with a small green salad.

Apple Cheeks 07-21-2008 08:59 AM

Today for lunch I had:

* A Weight Watchers bagel, which I warmed in the microwave for about 10 seconds, then I sprayed with some "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter." Mmmm.

*A salad with croutons (gasp! I know, but they're only 35 calories a serving:D) and 2 tablespoons of dressing

*A diet vanilla Pepsi

piperboo 07-21-2008 10:47 AM

I keep a pack of fat free bologna and a loaf of whole wheat oatnut bread at work and make a bologna sandwich with mustard every day. I usually eat a nectarine soon after. The easy part is knowing I will never forget my lunch!
I always eat a yogurt for breakfast and my variety is with my dinner.

cmichele1974 07-21-2008 11:36 AM

Tuna salad prepared with low-fat sour cream and mustard.
Lettuce and cucumber salad dressed with dried Italian herbs and oilive oil

FB 07-21-2008 12:39 PM

I just had lemon pepper tilapia, cottage cheese and a big old garden tomato sprinkled with a tiny bit of feta cheese, fresh basil and balsamic vinegar. 32 grams of protein too!

SoulBliss 07-21-2008 12:56 PM

Ma po tofu with broccoli (spicy sauce with steamed broccoli and tofu).

mandalinn82 07-21-2008 01:03 PM

Today I'm making a tuna melt (A Western Alternative Bagel w/ a small can of light tuna, toasted in the toaster oven with 1/4 cup of shredded light cheddar cheese).

BoopRN 07-22-2008 01:16 AM

I usually eat my lunch at work anywhere between 1am-2am (night shifts). I usually have a cup of romaine lettuce, croutons 2tbls, caesar dressing 1 tbls, and sometimes add some Hillshire Farm Oven roasted Turkey, and a sugar-free jello pudding, water and Enviga...I have this at least 3 times a week,,,,its my fave only about 300-some calories. Not bad for lunch.

ShrinkingShrink 07-22-2008 01:52 AM

my lunches

Sometimes I just eat a luna bar or other energy-type bar if I'm short on time. But on a day when I'm prepared and have time for a nice break, I like to bring a big mixed-greens salad, with a square of baked tofu, veggies, lf cheese, maybe a little dried fruit, and lf dressing. Very filling!

Lyria 07-22-2008 02:48 AM

Today it is homemade chicken minestrone...mmm...works out about 200 calories per serve.

I've been on a bit of a salad kick as well with rocket, baby spinach, pickled onions, sundried tomatoes, carrot and a protein source like turkey breast, ham, kangaroo, fish, pork etc.

Apple Cheeks 07-22-2008 10:05 AM

Today's lunch was:

* 3 oz grilled chicken breast
* 2 cups of raw veggies
* 1 bag of Baked Doritos (individual sized--not family sized!)
* Diet Brisk Tea
