Canada Day Challenge (July 1)

Congrats to all who participated in the Mother's Day Challenge! :celebrate:
It was a great challenge, and everyone did really well.

Now, it is time to set your sights on a new challenge: Canada Day, July 1, which is just a tad over 7 weeks away. So, set your own personal challenge goal for the next 7 weeks, whether it's a number on the scale, a pair of pants you want to fit into, staying on plan with your eating and exercise...whatever will motivate and help you over the next 7 weeks! Everyone is welcome, so please join in, and good luck to all!

As for me, I'm still working on finishing up my Mother's Day goal. I'll be posting here, but won't set a new goal until I finish my old one, to get to ONEderland! I'm really close, so I hope it won't be long!

Horo 05-11-2008 05:47 PM

Yay, the new challenge board is up. :)

I'm going for 10 lbs again. So, my current weight is 172 and I hope to be at 162 by the end of the challenge. I'm afraid I might not make it due to the fact that I will be traveling for a while, but I have a bit of confidence that I will because I lost an additional 2 lbs after I hit my Mother's Day goal. If 12 lbs was doable, 10 should be too. :)

FB 05-11-2008 07:30 PM

Okay- I'm in! Thanks Jammy Jam! I love that we're doing a Canadian holiday.

I'll try for a high goal again. If my weight loss rate stays steady it's doable, if not well- any loss is a GREAT victory! With better weather finally coming I think I can increase the outdoor workouts and shoot for the moon. I'll try my best!

jamsk8r 05-12-2008 12:50 AM

Put that new bike to work, right FB? ;) Good luck, ladies!

freethetoys 05-12-2008 03:44 AM

i think ill give this a go, i am going on holiday on teh 25th of june so i have 6 weeks on wednesday, and by then i wanna loose another 12lbs ideally but 10 would be nice. 8 would be acceptable. so, lets see what happends. i just came back from a very long plateau, and lost 8lbs in 2 weeks, im very happy about that, just hope i can maintain a good steady weight loss.

sumu1 05-12-2008 08:00 AM

Morning all...I'm going conservative, as always, and go for a goal of 140. That's 8 lbs in 7 weeks. On July 17th I'm running my first 5k so I wanted to be in the 130s by then. I'd like to post a decent time on my first official run.

So...goals run 3 times per week. Toning 3 times per week. Exercise tape 2 times per week. As I've said before I'm pretty with my eating @1600 cals per day so for me exercise is the key:-).

Here we go! Happy Canada Day Challenge everyone!

Daffy29 05-12-2008 08:30 AM

Everyone who participated in the last challenge, and made some headway of some sort deserves a big cheer! The battle against extra weight has to be fought on many fronts if we are to succeed in achieving and maintaining healthier bodies. Every step towards that goal deserves to be recognized, whether it's losing one pound or 20, adding 10 minutes of exercise a day, or 60.

We've got bright sunshine here this morning, an auspicious start for a new challenge. And it's the 'Canada Day' challenge, so I personally view it as a 'must-do'.

I have hit the 'significant health benefits 10% loss' now, so for this challenge, while I am going to include a loss goal, my focus is going to be more on getting moving. Someone very kindly 'sent' me a drill sargeant early on in the Mother's Day Challenge, but I turned a deaf ear...

45 minutes of planned exercise (so accidental stuff doesn't count) 4 times per week, plus one strength training session per week. My weight loss goal is going to be 7 lbs., one pound per week.

Ready, set....GO! And best of luck to everyone!

beliter 05-12-2008 08:03 PM

o.k.,I'm going to try another challenge.
I'm aiming for at least 2 lbs a week,so 7wks x 2=14.
So,14 lbs it is.

FB 05-12-2008 09:21 PM

Let's go for it everyone!

I'll put that bike to work Cheryl! It's not my primary fitness bike, but with the cost of gas and living in a small city's downtown I thought I'd replace the driving with biking. It's perfectly suited for that purpose! I'm becoming a bit obsessed with bicycling.

Daffy29 05-13-2008 06:51 AM

Just dropping in to let you all know I'm headed out to the cottage and will be back early next week. We're planning to clean up several paths through the woods, so exercise will not be a problem :) Gotta get it done ahead of the blackflies, they are n-a-s-t-y little bugs, and I swell like a puffer fish when they get me.

Anyway, I stepped on the scale but really did not expect to see any change since the loss on Saturday...but, there it was, another pound gone! :carrot:
And I put the summer tires on my truck yesterday, so there's one exercise session done. :)

Have a great week, all!

Ruthxxx 05-13-2008 07:34 AM

Good morning. I'd love to join a Canadian Challenge!

I'm 190 this morning and intend to be 185 or below by Canada Day. I lose pretty slowly due to my advanced age but should be able to manage a pound a week. I had knee replacement earlier this year and will be getting back into official exercise next week, In the meantime, the garden is giving me a workout.

I count calories every darned day on Fitday and am following South BEach principals.

yoyoma 05-13-2008 07:52 AM

I'd like to join too. My goal will be to stay on plan (and hope the scale cooperates!).

Horo 05-13-2008 11:32 AM

The only thing I have to report is that.. I've shrunken! Not weight wise, either. Turns out that I may be a few inches shorter than I thought I was, and though I'm not sure (I wasn't actually measured) I'm saying goodbye to 5'9" and hello to 5'7". *feels like a dork* :b

Tomato 05-13-2008 01:06 PM

Hello ladies,

May I join you? I don't normally post in Calorie counters but the Canada Day Challenge caught my eye.

Being super conservative, I will aim to be 7 lbs lighter by Canada Day - that would be 188 lbs. I will add it to my siggy as soon as I can. thanks for a Canadian challenge!

Beverlyjoy 05-13-2008 01:29 PM

Hi! I'd like to join in. My goals are:

plan & log my food/calories everyday

meditate five times a week

drink LOTS of water

lose at least five pounds

movement and stretches 4 times a week.

Great challenge!

jamsk8r 05-13-2008 01:49 PM

Woohoo! Lots of new challengers, I like it! Welcome to all our new challengers, and welcome back everyone else! :celebrate:

I'm sneaking up on my Mother's Day goal: 199.8 today! (my goal is 199.0, since I round up to the next pound for my ticker) That's the first time I've seen a 1-anything in, I don't know, 10 years, maybe? Hopefully, this means I'll be hitting my MD goal for real, soon, and can set a new goal for this challenge. :)

retiredone 05-13-2008 02:36 PM

Hi everyone, I was referred here by my fellow Canadians in the Crazy Canucks thread. I'd like to join the challenge by losing 7 pounds/1 pound per week by Canada Day. I tried on some pants that I bought some time ago and never did get to wear them because I gained weight. They even have the price tag still attached. I'd like to be able to wear them this summer so I guess beside losing the 7 pounds I'd like to get closer to wearing the "new" pants.

jamsk8r 05-13-2008 04:24 PM

Isabella, those are great goals...good luck! Glad to see the Canucks coming out for this challenge, and all are welcome, even if you're not specifically calorie counting at this time.

Layri, I had no idea that dieting could make you shorter! :lol3: Ah, you know I couldn't resist! I had to measure myself when I signed on here, because I had no idea, either.

Daffy, I meant to say before, congrats on hitting the 10% loss and another pound down!

I'd better get off here now. Been spending way too much time on the computer today! See you all later!

RocknRoll 05-13-2008 06:28 PM

7 weeks is halfway through summer for me...

My goals will be:
-Lose 10-15 pounds
-Stay Healthy
-Try to eat intuitively
-EXERCISE
-Spend as much time outdoors as I can!

moonkissed 05-14-2008 12:31 AM

ooo I wanna join in :) My first challenge!

My goal is to lose 10 pounds and to keep track of my food/calories every single day!

Goodluck everyone :)

Horo 05-15-2008 02:56 PM

Heh. xD Oh well, my dear Mom turned out to be a bit shorter than she thought she was, too... The nut don't fall far from the tree, eh?

Sgirl 05-15-2008 03:10 PM

Hello,
This post caught my eye. I would like to be down 10 more pounds by Canada Day, putting me at 226. This is the weight I was when I 1st wanted to lose weight and then all went to ****. So it will be a big mental marker for me. Good luck to all!

yoyoma 05-15-2008 08:58 PM

Congrats on the sneak preview of Onederland, Jammy! :cp:

I also had a friendly scale this morning but I am very conservative about updating my ticker because I fluctuate a lot and I don't want my ticker to read lower than the scale.

In other news, I joined Curves this morning -- first gym membership in at least a decade! I've been doing well walking, but it's about time I added some strength training. :strong:

And :goodluck: everyone!

MrsEnigma 05-16-2008 01:03 PM

Hi all! Would like to join in on this next challenge/goal. Have been out of the loop for a bit and didn't get to post much on the MD thread. I came close to my goal - shy of it by 1#. Yep. I weigh 231 now. I'm 50# lighter!

My CD goal is to lose 13 more lbs. And to keep up my daily exercise.

jamsk8r 05-16-2008 03:49 PM

Welcome, to our new challengers! (and welcome back, MrsE! congrats on the 50# milestone!)

Well, I am back to weight lifting, and the scale apparently found out about it. Dang! I was so close to finishing the MD goal, then all this water weight is shooting the scale back up. Ah well, I'll get there eventually. Looking at my numbers, I'm thinking it's time to make another change to my diet, though. Might be time to tackle the dreaded hot tea (with sugar and milk) addiction. :( I've never been able to take it just with the tea bag and water, so I think the only thing to do is cut down on the number of cups each day, at least to start. That would drop my calories without me having to change the food right now. Water is my friend, water is my friend....

FakeFrowns 05-16-2008 05:25 PM

I'm going to jump on the Canada Day challenge but my half way between mini and major goal is set for the 5th of July but still 4 days might not make any difference. I'm going to shoot for the moon to make that goal and say 16.5lb. I really want to be down to 210 for my 5th of july but even if i make it to 216 i'll be happy!!!
Thanks!

FB 05-16-2008 08:55 PM

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! The weather is supposed to be gorgeous in my part of the world, hope it's nice for everyone else. Have to work a wedding tomorrow so that will be a high energy burn day.

I just got over the tea with sugar and milk addiction. I found putting an ice cube in the cup got rid of the bitterness and has helped me transission to herbal tea just plain...good luck

freethetoys 05-17-2008 03:21 AM

hey guys when is our next weigh in day??? or are we weighing seperate//? mine is on the 27th im hoping to shed 4 lbs between then and my last weigh in day i think i need to wor out maybe 4 more times to achieve that though... :-s

yoyoma 05-17-2008 05:12 AM

Looks like rain for the weekend in my area. But I'm happy to report that my weekend plans include trying out my new Curves membership and going rollerblading at a nearby rink :) .

Since my goal is just to stay OP (so far, so good!), I won't have any official weigh-ins.

Jammy, I was able to transition from tea with milk & sugar to tea with nonfat milk and no sugar in stages (reducing sugar slowly). Maybe you could try that approach? Tea has some health benefits and nonfat milk is a good source of calcium and protein.

FB 05-18-2008 01:06 PM

Heya freethetoys- just weigh in and report whenever! Also feel free to talk up your progress and plans. There is no set weigh-in date.

Congrats on the Curves membership yoyoma! And rollerblading too? Sounds like a great weekend. I love skating/blading but unfortunately can't stop well. I have to grab on to things or people and end up crashing.

The workout water weight gets to me too Jammy. But congrats on your preview of the 1's! You're technically there you know!

I'm off to a promising start. 3 pounds gone!

lifechange 05-18-2008 04:03 PM

I'm in and going for 17 lbs! This is slightly under my current progress- so we'll see. Continue daily turbo jam- add in turbosculpt 1x/week .

retiredone 05-18-2008 09:00 PM

Hi fellow challengers. I weighed in yesterday and I've lost 1.5 pounds since last Saturday so I have 5.5 to go. I've been counting calories for about a week and a half and so far it's working great.

sumu1 05-19-2008 09:42 AM

:carrot:

So I almost posted here yesterday. I weighed in last Monday and then went on a 4 day free-for-all. Not too terrible but just ate. For the next 3 days I cut back and got back on track again. I stepped on the scale this morning and 3 lbs gone. Plus the fact I did kick up my running and walking a few notches. I forgot how running just turns on the fuel burner. So now I am 10 lbs away from my goal/goal and 6 lbs away from my Canada day goal.

I haven't been this weight in a LOOONNGG time :D .

jamsk8r 05-20-2008 01:42 PM

Wow, Sumu, congrats on the 145! :celebrate:

I did it, finally, met my MD goal! 198.8 this morning! So glad to be done with that one, as it seemed to take forever. I'm setting my Canada Day goal for just 5 lbs, with six weeks to go. My weight loss has really slowed, so I think that will be a realistic goal for me.

I have to go make sure my ds is getting ready...he's got a movie date with his aunt today. I'll be back after I get him out the door, though, because I do want to catch up on recent posts.

yoyoma 05-20-2008 04:14 PM

Way to go Jammy! :carrot: Congratulations... great job :) !

I did go to Curves Saturday (and Monday and Tuesday), but TOM hit on Sunday and I skipped the rollerblading (luckily not required to stay OP). TOM also pushed the scale up three pounds () so I set my ticker at the "high water mark". I'm never quite sure when to update my ticker because I fluctuate so much.

Maybe I should change my ticker just to read weeks on program, instead of weight. That's how I really judge my progress, anyway.

jamsk8r 05-20-2008 04:21 PM

Okay, the boy is on his way to the movies, the critters are taken care of, etc, so I can take a little computer time...

I've been doing 1800 and 2000 cals for a long time, and see that my weight loss has slowed most weeks to under a pound a week. So, starting today, I'm switching my calorie counts to 1600 most days, and 1800 on weight lifting days. I've decided to go back to full body lifting workouts for a while, because I think it may help if I don't have to drink the post-workout shake five days a week, and this way my food calories stay the same (1600). All I have to do to get the 1800 is drop one cup of tea and have my post-workout protein shake.

So far today, I'm right on track with eating and water drinking. I am really going to try and stay focused and on-plan for this challenge. Those little spoonfuls of peanut butter or a taste of this or that really add up! I'm tracking every bite and drink on The Daily Plate site.

Sgirl and Yoyoma, thank you for the support and ideas for getting off the sugar/milk with my tea. I was a little surprised to hear that others on this list had tea with milk and sugar. Outside of my family, I've never met anyone who didn't think this was an odd way to drink tea.

Retiredone, congrats on your weight loss...you are off to a great start!
Freethetoys, as FB said, we all just weigh in whenever we feel like it.
FB, as always, you are the weight loss "boss of me"! You keep me motivated!
Fakefrowns and Lifechange, welcome to the CD challenge, and good luck!

Wow, that's long...sorry guys, I need an editor!

ETA: Yoyoma, you posted at the same time I did. For the ticker, what I do is just track the lowest weight I've hit on the scale, because my weight also fluctuates day to day. For me, it works to track the low weights, because if I'm doing a challenge like this, and I see my goal number on the scale, I'm friggin' counting it! ;) At home, I track my average weight loss, using a week of daily weigh-ins, adding them together, and dividing by 7. That gives me a clearer picture of my weight loss trend from week to week. What you track on the ticker is up to you, but it motivates me to use it for tracking my lowest hits on the scale.

Horo 05-20-2008 08:15 PM

Well, I didn't expect to see a loss not only because I'm dealing with TOM (where I'm usually fluctuated up several pounds), but also because I also had soaking wet hair out of the shower and a belly full of food... But hey, I'll take it!
1 lb down to Canada Day goal.

Horo 05-21-2008 03:45 PM

Make that '1 lb down' to down 3 lbs down to Mother's Day goal. Whoot whoot, yay for dropping water weight. :b

Sgirl 05-21-2008 04:23 PM

Jammy congratulations for being in ONEderland!!! I am soo happy for you! That is a huge accomplishment! As of Monday I am 1 pound down and 9 left to go for Canada Day goal.
