calorie counters chat ~may 2008
guess we need a new one now...I did post in the old one today though
|
OK, it has been forever since I was a "calorie counter" but over the months and months of trying to get to my goal I have slowly turned back into a calorie counter. I did VERY good doing that 2 years ago and got very close to goal weight then. Then I slacked off (BIG TIME) and gained 20lbs back. So I am here again trying to reach that elusive goal weight. I am CLOSE and have lost some with ALLI, then just "being careful of what I eat" but essentially calorie counting works best. I have also bumped up my physical exercise (something I didnt do last time). So I am back and I am determined! Hope you'll have me.

Welcome back StillTryin. You can do it!
|
Hey Irish- Thanks for starting up a new thread. LOL My co-worker just finished telling me Happy May Day, and then I came up to my office and saw your post and went, oh yeah it is May. Yeah I have heard about the Depo shot. My friends all gained weight and were miserable with it. LOL I felt like a teenager walking out the clinic with all the pamphlets on BC, and options! LOL! I haven't gotten the opportunity to watch your vid, but will do it once I get home. My comp at work is finicky. I am on a dinosaur at work. LOL! Thanks for the hugs. They were needed!
GrammyL- How ya feeling today? I recieved my 6WBMO, it was a surprise, I saw on the UPS website yesterday that it was going to be rescheduled to get delivered today, but I guess they changed their minds. I can't wait to go home and pop it open. Gaia- MY dad has High BP, but has controlled it in the last couple of years. I do know it can be anything. But the Dr.'s are convinced it's from the BC pills. I was put on a higher dosage last year and since then my BP has increased. LOL Speaking of which I have an appt with my MD on the 15th. More than likely I will have to be put on BP pills, to stablize the pressure. But will not have to be on those things for the rest of my life. Thank goodness!! Zenor- Yeah the IUD scares me, and also weirds me out too. I am still researching my other options. Beliter- :welcome2: Don't worry the lbs will budge. It also may mean you need to tweak things around. Maybe add a little more exercise, or eat more calories. Stilltryin- Of course we'll have you!!! :welcome: back! |
Zenor ~ That weight will come right back off, its all the stress your under. Don't remember if I congratulated you on your Sis's new baby that’s on the way. I am 40 and I can't image having a child at my age but people do it all the time. Although most can't image having them at 19 either. I had my young and so I am a grandma young. I was 37 (few weeks before my birthday) when Jose was born. Happy belated anniversary.
Tinky ~ French fries are my favorite food on earth. DH laughs at me because I always tell him don't make me any because I don't want any. Lets say he knows I will eat them so he always makes extra and yes someone eats them. LOL! I am not sure when you plan on having children but isn’t their an insert now that they can put in your uterus or something that doesn’t have to be removed until you want to have children? I seem to remember seeing a commercial on it. I had problems with my moods on the pill and DH was relieved when we decided not to have any more children and I had my tubs tied. Is your blood pressure getting better now. You are definitely to young to have those kinds of problems. Gaia ~ I don't know why but I knew you were from the south. Red-eye gravy, never heard of it until I watched a program on FoodTV that talked about it. I think it might have been the country fried steak and gravy you talked about that tipped me off. Mac n cheese is something I have a major problem with and avoid because I just can't stop once I start. Grits are yummy to, my Dad is a huge fan. Actually I like all the food you talk about. I was told Smoke was full TWH but he didn’t have papers and the vets that have cared for him are positive he had Percheron in him. They said TWH are not that bulky. He had to have a size 3 shoe, workhorse size. Coldbrightday ~ CONGRATS on getting into school. There is definitely a shortage in that area. No, no regrets for stress eating at all. My YDD and her BF couldn’t believe how I was packing away the food because I don’t normally eat very much. LOL! Beliter ~ http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/l.../Welcome-1.gif and thank you. He was definitely a family member, my DD's always introduced him as their brother. People always had to go out and visit with Smoke when they came over in the summer. He loved it. Irish ~ You sounded fantastic and don’t get why they didn’t choose you. Make sure you try out next year and I bet you’ll get in. Stilltryin ~ http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/n...03/welcome.gif Today is better. I only broke down twice yesterday after I got out of work. Once on the way home and the other time when I visited his grave. I actually yelled at him and told him he was a stupid horse and that this wasn't fair. LOL! Now, my pony hates me. He is still calling off and on for Smoke and doesn't want me near him. He needs time to heal also. My DD's mini keeps comforting me however, he is a little nut. He keeps sticking his nose up to my face for kisses. Today I still don't have any desire to eat but my tummy is telling when its time to eat. Nothing sounds good but that sometimes happens on this program I am on because we eat every couple hours. This morning I cleared all the shelves and refrigerator of things I can't have until I reach goal. Last night I waited to long to eat and then I got into things I shouldn't. This morning I decided if it wasn't there I couldn't eat it so I cleaned everything out. I am leaving early today and going grocery shopping for things I can have. I may even do a big cook tonight to have food on hand. Well I am with you now Tinky on weight. I got on the scale and I am at 175. So I am changing my ticker. I am not going to let it get me down its only a couple of pounds and it will come right back off. Well I have to get going and I will talk to you all later. |
Hey everybody! I became a "calorie counter" in January and absolutely love it. I admit I am a compulsive scheduling freak, so planning a menu and writing down the calories has been a lifesaver for me. I never worry what and when and where I'm going to eat. Plus, I feel like I am never depriving myself because if I have a craving I either fill it and then balance the rest of the day around that meal or find a healthier version of it that fits into my daily plan.
My challenge of the week however is for my friend's birthday she wants to do sushi. I do not eat sushi, as in I don't like raw fish, cooked fish, or seaweed... Is chicken teriyaki a bad choice? How many calories would you guys predict is in chicken teriyaki at sushi places? I tried looking it up but couldn't find a good estimate... HELP! |
hey guys, im a calorie counter, always have been.
but i just had a bit of a scare, i had 60 cals left for the evening and decided to have some watermelon, now i knew watermelon is not calorie free but being that its mainly water i though it would have a similar calorie count as cucumber...LOW so i sat and munched about 1/4 a whole watermelon...i love a good ripe one.... but then my boyf jokingly checks online how many cals are in one and i must have eaten about 300 cals OMG im sooooo annoyed..... at least i ran/worked out today so i suppose its not the end of the world. But its fine if i choose to go over my target but clearly i was in the dark....fooooled by watermelons wateryness..... just a warning moan i guess dont let watermelon fool u guys too :-( |
4 oz chicken teriyaki = 260 calories. I got this from the Calorie King.
|
Well everyone I weighed in this morning and I am down 2lbs!!!! WOOHOO I am so excited to be in the 160's again! Last year in March I was about 160-164 so I am happy to be close to that again...
|
:carrot: :cb: Happy Friday Everyone!!! :flow1::woohoo:
Grammy- Yep, I am too young to have these kinds of issues when it comes to blood pressure. It has gone down only a bit. BTW, I start my plan on Sunday! Yay! LOL I honestly believe I've gained a little more. But soon will be gone. LOL! Though TOM is coming so, that could explain things. Hi Cookie. Yes, if you don't eat sushi of any kind, teriyaki will be your best bet. Though high in sodium, but drink lots of water or green tea. Free- Don't worry bout the watermelon chica! It is better than having a donut right? Plus watermelon are known to be diuretics too. I don't think it's going to cause you to balloon up. Still- :cp: congrats on your 2lbs down. How exciting! Keep it going! I'd love to be in the 160s too! LOL! Well I recieved my Economic rebate, and I am pretty happy. I plan on getting a new camera, and do some grocery shopping, and then decide what to do with the rest. I also need to clean my house this weekend. Fun! Well I will try to catch you all on here, before I leave for the day. Have a great morning everyone! |
Hey everybody! So I decided what I was going to do about the Japanese take-in meal. I am going to get Chicken Teriyaki with the teriyaki sauce on the side, it comes with salad (ginger dressing on the side) and instead of rice I'm going to substitute miso soup. Sounds like a pretty good plan to me!
So I'm trying to be a bit more experimental with the food I'm eating, which is why I love calorie counting so much. I think it allows variety because you can play and balance your day. So I bakes these oatmeal white chocolate chip dried strawberry cookies from my new Cooking Light recipe cook book and they were delicious!!! Only 98 calories a cookie :) My family wants me to bake something for our Mother's Day BBQ hmmm Anyone have any good turkey meatloaf recipes they would recommend? |
Morning everyone. Same old same old here. Things are fine but the rain has kept me from doing the lawn. Why does it do that, rain just enough in the morning to keep you from mowing grass all day lol.
|
Free ~ I love watermelon but it is loaded with natural sugar but like Tinky said its also a diuretic. I also can't eat much because of all the water content, fills me up fast.
Still ~ That is great news, WHOHOO! WTG. Tinky ~ Its great that its coming down and the program will help you because it is very low sodium. If you need any help with meal ideas or finding a group to post with let me know. I post with the New Normal group at Provida but its a little slow right now. It comes and goes. My suggestion is going with the forums for newbies. There are always groups starting up. I like going and reading what they are doing because everyone is so motivated when they first start the program and it gets me motivated. Shy ~ I will trade you and take your same old same old. LOL! ODD has fallen in it again. Her BF (worthless himself) decided to actually get off the couch to beat the crap out of her. She called the cops and I guess he is in jail. His step-sister had Will, my DD's youngest and won't give him back and said she is calling child protective agency on her. His Mom said she is also but my goodness are they going to listen to a convicted drug addict/dealer who had her kids taken away from her for neglect or my DD? GEEZ! I would like the lady to go to the court house and file the complaint so she can go back to jail since she is wanted also. DD is moving in with a friend because she doesn't feel safe. My opinion, like I said earlier, she just wants the money out of that trailer but I have news for her I am not paying for another place for her to live. That was a once in a lifetime deal just like the last car we bought her. What a week to say the least and I can't wait for this week to be over. On ward and upward hopefully. Well I better get going because this has taken 6 hrs to type because of all the interruptions. |
Cookie- That is a wonderful choice!!! Good luck at dinner tonight.
GrammyL- Did you get the PM message that I sent you? If you didn't let me know. Well I think that is all, for my end. It's the same old, same old here too, except I am not crazy busy like last Friday. I have to go to an informal inservice for our co-worker who passed recently. But other than that, every is just flying by. If I don't make it on here later, Have a great weekend! See you all on Monday!!!!! Tata! :dizzy: |
Grammy
I have heard more than once I have a very boring life YES I DO and I like it that way lol. I cook, I clean, I do laundry, I work at the soup kitchen, I bake for the old dears and I read at the nursing home, I help clean a few old folks houses and get calls from time to time because someone needs a ride here or there. I have a master list of the to do lists for everyone in the house lol. My life is very orderly and everyone knows what day of the week I make chicken or meat loaf lol. Some people could not live this way. I am so disorganized if I didn't stay as organized as I am with the same old same old I would never know where anything is or get anything done lol. |
Shy, you just keep doing what your doing, because it is WORKIN for ya!!!
|
Still
I am never quite sure if it is working for me or I am working for it lol. |
Shy- I TOTALLY know what you mean. I am a self proclaimed perfectionist. I am ALWAYS organized and ALWAYS on a schedule, but you know what I like it that way and would go crazy if my life wasn't like that. At the same time, I wonder if I am pushing myself too hard to be so organized/scheduled/perfect all of the time... Would I be happier if I didn't? I truly don't think I would be. The way I see it, people can take me or leave me.
Dr. Seuss said it best "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter, and those that matter don't mind." |
Cookie
I have tryed to be more " layed back " I am not happy that way lol. Good thing the hubby doesn't mind me picking lint off the carpet, he does the same thing lol. |
hello, ladies :)
I hope you'll all good :) last week was awful for me caloriewise :( I ate a million calories :( good thing is my weight is the same, but yesterday I definitely overate..I've eaten so much that I thought I'm going to puke :( my bf's mom came and she made pork for lunch and she went grocerie shopping and bought a ton of chocolates, cookies, cola and juice...and of course I had to eat it all :( to top it all I have a ton of college exams and I'm nervous and I just want to run somewhere and come back when it is all over :( but today is the new day, I had my healthy breakfast, I will drink a ton of mineral water and green tea, I will eat vegetables nad I hope I will get back on track and start losing weight again :) |
Cookie & Shy~ You are never allowed to come over to my house! I think I'm an okay house keeper, but after all this talk of picking lint off the carpet I'm not so sure... ;)
Cookie~ LOVE the Dr. Seuss quote! It's so true! Oolong~ We all have weeks like that. You are doing the right thing by getting right back to healthy eating. You can do this! You are doing great. Just think of last week as practice maintaining. :D Grammy~ Well, we have "unofficial" news about the position that DH interviewed for here in WA. They are offering the tenure track position to someone else. There is a possibility that the person could turn it down, but it'll be weeks before we know about that and I'm not holding my breath. Dh was offered a position somewhere else, but we decided to decline the offer. We just wouldn't be happy there. So, we are back to square one and looking at options. DH has other applications out and we are also thinking about maybe going back home for awhile to regroup. It would be easier for me to find work there and DH could freelance easier in CA. I'm not looking forward to having to pack and move yet again, but at least it gives me something to do with all my stress energy. I know everything will work out and we'll end up where we need to be, but I'm just not good with "unknowns." :dizzy: |
Don't you love that oolongformosa, that regardless of how bad a day went tomorrow is always a brand new day :)
|
zenor
I have friends that I go to their house and knock stuff off a chair to find a place to sit. Has never bothered me how others live as long as they don't have bugs lol. My clothes drawers are one thing no one should ever look at. I just toss my sock in a drawer and don't even bother to mate them. Drives the hubby crazy. He has his organized by type and color lol. I have always thought I can tell the difference between a brown sock and a white sock so I am not going to pick one of each and wear them lol. I hope the hubby finds what he is looking for soon. I do understand about not liking the unknown. I am not good with the unknown. Might be why I am so organized. Oolong Today is always another day. We can't do anything about yesterday but learn from it. |
hey all :)
Zenor: sorry about your husbands job interview :( hopefully he finds something somewhere you will both love. Oolong : it happens, we all have bad days or weeks. I just got over my bad 2 week bout!! just get back on the train :) well I got my mothers day present today!!! A kodak z712IS its 7.1 mp and 12x optical zoom I LOVE IT!!! as soon as we get a nice day I am defenitly going for a picture walk. Also I am planning my rewrd trip for september we have decided to go to NYC for 5 days :) We are driving down probably with my in laws (10 hour drive) and staying just outside of NYC one of the days we are driving up to Boston for the day as well. I have always dreamed of going to NYC so its an AWESOME reward for me. I can't wait I am excited about everything!!! its still a while away but I am super super excited. I am glad I still have that time to lose as much as possible...I would much rather walk 5th avenue wearing cute clothes and looking good then being over weight and unhappy in ugly clothes lol. |
irish
NYC was a nice place to visit. Oh my gosh we can't even afford to walk on 5th avenue lol. |
SHY: lol nether can we but I really want to see it....won't be buying anything unless I want to sleep on the street lol. its fun to pretend your rich lol.
|
Good Morning everyone!! Wow, this post sure gets busy. LOL! I had an alright weekend, it went by TOO fast. Ugh, and I am so bloated from TOM! I will change the ticker to reflect that too. I am also sure it is from other things like salt, and bad foods.
Zenor- I am sorry about DH's interview too. I hope he finds something that suits him better. I hate unknowns too. It will all sort itself out. I'll keep crossing my fingers for you guys! Irish- Woohoo on the camera. I am looking to get a one too. My old one is flaking outo me. Have fun with your new toy. Wow NYC, awesome trip! I have never been! That is quite an great reward. You'll knock them all down with your new you! September is quite a ways away, but with the way things are going it will be here before you know it! Oolong- Don't worry bout over eating. We all do it, you just need to pick yourself up and go at it again. GrammyL- Well I started my 6wbmo, and so far I've had my breakfast. I am already full! I made a turkey sausage patty, some oatmeal and some cut up pineapple. Filling! How was your weekend? Cookie- that quote from Dr. Seuss is so spot on!!! You know just consider your organization and time management as a gift! I know alot of people out there would kill for that in their life! Shy- My brother said I am too much of a homebody, at first I took offense, but then I went so what, I am happy that way. LOL !He just turned 21 and life is one big party. I on the other hand work full time, and like to keep the house orderly. LOL! Well have a great day everyone. Today is going to be pretty busy for me, one of my favorite residents passed away yesterday, and so I will have to be there for the other residents and try to comfort them, while trying to stay strong myself. (sigh) This is part of the job I don't like. |
Zenor ~ I am SOOOO sorry about the position. Good attitude about ending up where you were meant to be. That is kind of how I take life. All things happen for a reason, I may not know why for now but eventually I will know.
Shy ~ I could only wish to have such a life. Each day for me seems to bring new challenges and hurdles but I always remind myself to take it in stride and that I will not be given more than I can handle. Irish ~ You reward sounds wonderful. DH and I have always wanted to go to NYC just to actually see something like that. We can't image seeing crowds of people walking down the streets like you see on TV. We are country bumpkins. Oolong ~ Your right today is a new day and you can do it. I am having to restart once again this week. I just kind of went with the flow of life last week and guess what, it doesn't work for me. LOL! My life would drive some of you crazy. Just when I have everything planned out for a day something comes along to put a wrench into that plan. I am good at everything but perfect at nothing and I am fine with that. I used to beat myself up about not being perfect and get mad when a wrench was thrown into my plans but realized it was making my life miserable. So now, I take one day at a time, don't get made at the wrenches just rearrange and do the best I can at everything. I am much happier and life seems so much easier. I also find I can laugh things off easier. I told myself today that I am going to be happy. I noticed yesterday I was showing signs of being depressed and letting all the bad things that happened last week get me down. So this morning I said enough. So I decided I am going to be happy today and the first thing that went wrong I laughed about. I stepped in dog poo and had to scrub my shoe in a sink to get it off. LOL! I said see, Monday stinks. LOL! Well I better get going for now and talk to you all later. |
Irishfairy- I went to New York for the first time a couple of years ago and it was amazing! At 11pm I thought it was the middle of the day because of all of the lights in Time Square. Also, they have AMAZING food. I left every meal full out of my mind, clearly I was not calorie counting then... FYI Serendipity has AMAZING desserts.
Grammy- I need to tell myself that more often, that I need to just be happy with my life. The downside of being a perfectionist is that I always have to be obsessing about something in my life. Sometimes I need to just take a deep breath and be grateful for what I have. Any big Mother's Day plans? I of course have a day of eating (like every other family affair), yuck. Brunch with one side of the family and then BBQ with the other side of the family. Not sure how I'm going to calorie count that one... |
Cookie ~ My obsession is getting this weight off and for some reason it isn't happening. I think the more I obsess about it the harder it is. So I am doing my program and trying to relax a little.
Tinky ~ Yes, I just got your message but I got lost there. LOL! I couldn't find my way around. I just want to warn you now, there is a point in the first two weeks when you think you can't eat but you have to push through it and eat anyway. I know that sounds odd but your body will get used to eating on schedule and eventually, and this is where I am, I am hungry before its time to eat. I now eat more veggies to help keep me full. The weekend was OK but not eating wise. Hopefully all my sorrows are drown now. LOL! I always drown them with food and not giving a crap. I am back on track today and what little I gained will come right back off and I think DH is going to help me stick with it this weekend because I got a little sad about the gain I had. Couple of the things that happened this weekend all I could do is OK, with a thumbs up and a smirk. This is how I deal with stuff that happens. LOL! We were driving down the express way in my Trailblazer and there is a piece above the window on the hatch that is like visor that is plastic with a tail light. Well that decided to blow off. Yep, that was a topper to the cake last week. So we went back and finally found it after 3 trips. Then we pulled up to the restaurant we were going to and there was a building DH was parking by, mind you his work truck is a GMC 4X4 4 door so its bigger than mine, and he gently bumped the building with my blazer. He argued with me on it but I brushed the paint off and it scratched it. ARG! Anyway, now I have to have my hatch fixed on my blazer. Dread that bill and in the mean time its in my back seat. LOL! Its all scratched up but it will work because I am not willing to pay for it to be repainted. |

GrammyL- Yeah the site was all kinds of confusing for me in the beggining but now I can navigate with getting lost a bit. If you want you can look me up, and go from there. I am pretty active with the group now, that I started. It's the same name as here Tinky009
I told DF that I cannot go off track for whatever reason. I told him to please treat this like my juice fast. LOL! So far I like the plan, I like that I get to eat potatos and rice. Wow, it sounds like you had a real fun weekend! Men...(sigh)! I am glad you recovered the visor that flew off. That right there saved you some money! Cookie- Is Serendipty the place that has the frozen hot chocolate? They look so divine and so good! Yummy! Irish you better have one of those for me!!! LOL! |
Hey everyone. I had a pretty good weekend calorie wise. Nutrition wise...well, not so much. NOT terrible, but NOT ideal either. Oh, well. I am still learning. I will weigh in around the end of the week to see if all my work was messed up by my crazy weekend. I hope not. I am really hoping to have a couple lb loss this week.
|
Still
It takes awhile to get it all together and even then there are days that aren't perfect. Glad to see you are happy with how you are getting it together. Grammy I am good at most things and am not perfect at anything. Once a person learns to live with that life is much nicer. Tinky I went thru a short party time lol about a year. Then I was back to being a homebody. Hubby and I laugh about it because a big vacation to us is sitting at the camp grounds and feeding the bond fire. I guess not everyone is a wild Zelda lol. That is so hard. We read at a local nursing home and it is so sad when one of the active residence dies. The whole place is down. Irish I walked on the side walk and wondered if I was going to get charged lol. My gosh they probably charge more than my car cost just to window shop lol. I paid my car off today. I am a happy camper. Now if anyone would like to give me 66,000 dollars I can pay my house off and be an ecstatic camper lol. |
Tinky ~ I will try to find you there. I am so glad that you like it. Yes, the program is very healthy and easy to follow. Its real food, its healthy food and it taste good. I have all kinds of recipes that I like and here are my two favorite sausages that I eat any time.
Italian Turkey Sausage * 1 lb ground turkey breast * 1/4 tsp fresh ground black pepper * 1/2 tsp paprika * 1/2 tsp fennel seed * 1/4 tsp onion powder * 1/2 tsp garlic powder * 1/4 tsp coriander * 1/4-1/2 tsp crushed red chilies * 1-2 tsp parsley Mix all ingredients together and place in refrigerator over night. Make into patties, cooking in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat until done. Great with marinara sauce. Note from Liz: I tend to like things very spicy or full of flavor, so I generally double all the spices in this recipe. OP Chorizo 1 lb ground turkey breast 2 teaspoons nsa chili powder 11⁄2 teaspoons garlic powder 1 teaspoon cumin 1⁄2 teaspoon red pepper flakes 1⁄2 teaspoon fennel seed 2 tablespoons white vinegar Mix it all ingredients together and let it sit for 30 minutes in the refrigerator. Then form it into patties or crumble in a nonstick pan and cook over medium heat until golden brown. The Chorizo is my own recipe that I created because DH is Mexican and the original chorizo was a heart attack in a pan. This is healthy and taste almost as good. Just doesn't have all the grease. If you like gumbo I have a wonderful gumbo recipe that DH and I love. |
Shy ~ Life is so much easier and fun now that I accept I don't have to be perfect. I used to stress about everything and in the meantime I enjoyed nothing. With age its easier and easier to just accept things and stop fighting the natural flow of things.
LOL! I forgot to share something funny. This is Zuess, my DD's miniature horse, he is an absolute gem. He is not perfect but a real sweet heart: http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f215/LlaraM/Zuess.jpg I kept joking that I was going to get on him and see if I can ride him because he is strong enough to pull over 400 lbs so why can't he carry me. Well lets say he doesn't like to be ridden. My DD's BF and I weight the same amount but he is 6' and looks like a rack of bones. So see, I am just to short for my weight. LOL! Anyway, he decided to be our guinea pig. He sat on on Zuess and Zuess was fine until we asked him to walk and then he started bucking. Of course the BF was tall enough that he could just stand up. It was just to funny. Obviously Zuess is strong enough because he was able to buck him. The last horse we put to much weight on couldn't buck because the rider was to heavy. SO, that is a not go, Zuess bucks. LOL! Drove my pony Peek last night. He did just wonderful and really enjoyed all my tinkering with him. To my knowledge this is the first time in his life that he will have one on one attention. He originally came from a show barn, then the lady I got him from had couple horses and 3 ponies, and at my house he has always had to share with Smoke. Now, its one on one and I think he is going to eat it up. I have to say I am looking forward to getting my new cart and harness this summer. This cart and harness are to big for him. Here he is, he is just such a sweet heart. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...M/PICT0021.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...PICT0100-1.jpg |
Shy- I did too, I think it's just a shock for my bro to see his sis who used to go out everynight, and live for the night life, go to someone who goes home and stays home sometimes on the weekend, shops, and tends to her house and garden. LOL Yeah it was hard yesterday, my resident who was friends with the resident who died, were friends for 60 years,so we cried together. But time will heal our broken hearts.
GrammyL- Thanks for the recipes! I will give it a try this weekend, when I cook in bulk again! The chorizo sounds delish! I love mexican food too! The mini horse is so cute! I love the colors on him! You should of taken a picture of your DD's BF on it! LOL! Peek is pretty handsome as well ! I like it that it looks like his back feet looks like he's wearing socks! LOL Well today I hope isn't too bad, it's cloudy and looks like we'll have rain. So I'll be working out indoors. Well I will try. When my friend TOM is over, it's hard to do anything. LOL! Have a wonderful day everyone! |
Oh, Peek is so adorable! Is he a hackney? I love the little snip on his nose--I'd probably just about have to kiss it off. lol And Zuess reminds me of a pony I had called Thundergirl. She was a handful, let me tell ya! She even chased the dog (a huge collie/shepherd mix) away from his food. lol But she had been mistreated and I was actually retraining her. She ended up a well behaved little lady. :D
I was so upset to hear about that filly breaking her ankles. I HATE horse and dog racing. It is just wrong to use animals for entertainment. Last night on Bill O'reilly, there was a woman trainer talking about it and she said, basically, that the horses are well cared for, treated like family, love to run--she spun him good. LOL She didn't tell him that the "horses" running are babies, not full grown and shouldn't even be carrying much weight, much less pounding furiously daily in training and races. She didn't tell him what happens to many racehorses when they "retire". Remember Ferdinand, who won the 1986 Kentucky Derby, and the 1987 Breeder's Cup, and was ALSO named 1987 Horse Of The Year? He was sold to Japan when his racing days were over and he didn't work out as a stud and ended up on some Japanese plate. :( The whole thing makes my skin crawl. Dog racing is just as bad if not worse. Grammy, hang in there...this stress in your life shall pass. My life, for 30 years was a total mess, always a lot of drama, I brought up two boys by myself and managed their Rock/metal band--my house for 5 years was literally a "band house". :dizzy: but now, it's more like a buddist temple. LOL I live alone. The house is small--only 7 rooms, including the bath. My livingroom walls are sage green and soooo relaxing. The only "problems" I have is daily "drama" from my 8 cats (someone is always mad with someone else about somethingl lol), and occassionally, I'm under a little stress to get a project finished by a certain time (I have a small home business), but other than that, when I am home, I am SOOO peaceful. I hope for every one of you that you have that someday--peacefulness, contentedness. Well, not totally content. I want a horse!! LOL My vet recues and I'll probably end up getting one from him. Irishfairy, hope you have a fantastic time. I went to New York many years ago. It was exciting, but to tell the truth, I think someone has be a bit off kilter to live like that. Too many people, too close...yuck. Good shopping, and good food though! lol Fantastic place to visit...but I wouldn't live there if all expensives were paid... I swear, New York "hummms"...literally. The whole time I was there, I felt an anxious energy about it. I think that's what draws so many people there--me--gotta get away. I'm a country girl--or at least a small town girl. lol Zenor, sorry to hear about the job falling through, but you are right...it just wasn't the time. Something else is planned for you! Have faith! Oolong, you just hop right back on the wagon...that little mistake only put you a day or so behind, so just keep on trying! |
Gaia ~ Yes, Peek is a hackney and does his gates beautiful. Very, very elegant and high stepping. They used to show him speedster and boy can that boy go. People love seeing him move, even none horse lovers. I would love to take driving classes and take him to some shows but his feet are messed up from founder and I am sure they would mark him down. Plus I don't worry about sun bleaching.
Have to be careful smooching on Peeks nose because he is a head bobber. He wouldn't do it to be mean but DD was trying to give him a kiss and she ended up with a bloody nose. Just a habit he has and I am always careful. I have had my fair share of abused horses and it takes time to bring them back but they always seemed to turn out as the most loving and trustworthy horses you can find. Smoke's trainer used real spurs on him, beat him across the front legs with a board to teach him to back up, beat him to make him go into trailers, the list goes on. I am sure Peek had abusive trainers also and it has taken time to bring him around. I used to grab his tail as he ran past me and hold on until he stopped. It was the only way any of us could catch him because he was so afraid of people. Now he comes running to us and is a pocket pet. Funny you mention the pony chasing the dogs because Zuess hates them with a passion. He will chase them down if they come in the pasture. Pony's are my passion. I love horses but the little guys are something I truly enjoy being around. I loved Smoke but if I would have had a pony before I got him I would have never bought such a big horse. People don't realize that those horses are still babies and still growing. That is one of the reasons race horses are injured. Most are still growing and their bones and joints are not ready for that kind of stress. Many horses are started way to young and end up messed up or having to be put down. It is a shame how race animals are treated. Same for any animal sport, the are not treated like family. |
Tinky ~ I hope you enjoy the recipes. It takes time but I have a lot of recipes that are plan friendly and delicious. DH always adds salt to his food because he said it doesn't taste right.
Well I am off to get my hair cut and I will talk to you all tomorrow. |
