Found another food I am going to try but I have to find some recipes but I have not a clue what to do with it other than it has to be boil it sounds like. Quinoa. I think I would like it dry fried first and then water added because I like the taste of things that have been dry fried first, even rice.

I am watching the video for "Sunscreen". I love this song and it really helps bring life into perspective for me every time I hear it. I need to start listening to it daily.

Well I am off for the weekend. I am going to the store to pick a few things up so I am going to buy some quinoa and give it a try. I found a recipe that sounds good to me. Looks as if you can use it in place of rice, pasta, oats, etc.

Talk to you all on Monday.

coldbrightday 02-22-2008 03:01 PM

Thanks for talking some sense into me yesterday, ladies! I totally knew all that stuff, I just needed to hear someone else say it.

Lara -- I LOOOVE quinoa. And it does beautifully in a pilaf.

zenor77 02-22-2008 04:04 PM

GrammyL~ I love quinoa! In fact my boss was asking me today how to cook it because he's going to try it tonight. My main suggestion would be to rinse it before you cook it. It has a bitter coating on the outside, but a quick rinse will take care of that.

Oh, and yes, kim chi smells while fermenting. I feel it's worth it though. You can also buy it in the refrigerated part of the produce section of most stores.

Are your tummy troubles due fiber? I would suggest you eat yogurt regularly that has live cultures in it or try taking a probiotic. I've heard this helps. I eat yogurt regularly and I never have problems.

Grammy: your just a health machine lately. Way to go girl!!!!

well I weighed myself this mornign and I dropped another 2 lbs so I made up for my little slip up this week. I am hoping to lose another 2 by next friday get me a head of the game a bit. I know only have 54lbs until goal and 11lbs until my easter goal!!!!!! Man this rocks! I did have a mini goal of 158 by april 19th...I think its a little much so I am gonna say 164 instead. Thats 20lbs in a little less then to months. I am gonna up my exercise this week I think. I have added 5lb weights to my trampolining and it feels good. I am also thinking of buying a heart rate watch to make sure my heart is beating enough to burn the calories I want.
I also just found out I have a huge party at my husbands work next weekend. The good thing is I never get out so it will be a big relief....bad thing is its my first time that long from my son, first time that far from my son and its free food and alcohol. I am praying I can control myself. I asked my skinny friend to come with us (she works at my husband work) so hopefully being next to her will keep me on track!

irish - setting goals is my hardest thing too. I had set them all WAY to aggressively at first, and then got disappointed in myself when I didn't hit them. Now I set them more realistically. #7 a month... I still haven't hit one in awhile - but I know I can if I'd just stick to it for a whole month! Actually - I'd probably lose more!!!

GrammyL 02-25-2008 12:42 PM

How did we fall so low on the list of topics. Well we just can't have that. LOL!

irishfairy 02-25-2008 12:54 PM

lol lara

well I am having a baaaad day. my son is in a cranky mood, my cat I have had since I was 8 may have to be put down, my husband has to stay 4 hours late at work, my friend was supposed to come over but can't, My neighbours below me keep smoking marijuana and it is coming through my vents into my one year old sons room (and he is allergic to smoke) but marijuana use is a grey area where I live meaning under a certain amount they never charge you. Good news I am still 184 I was afriad since I lost 2 in a day I would gain one back and I am still on track.

GrammyL 02-25-2008 01:29 PM

Good Afternoon everyone!

Coldbrightday ~ I have heard that you can use Quinoa any place rice is used. I am going to try toasting mine and then boiling it.

Zenor ~ I found Quinoa at Meijers but the price is out of this world, $9.00 for a small bag of it. I did buy it out of convenience but I am going to check the local Coop to see if they carry it, I am sure they do, and if it is cheaper.

I think it is the fiber but I can't be for sure. Its mainly lentils and beans that seem to bother me. I am hoping that I just get used to them. I have been eating yogurt daily hoping it will help. I don't expect it to be fixed over night so I am just going to keep doing what I am doing.

Irish ~ You are doing fantastic, keep up the hard work. I took a meal off last night and was bad. Not as bad as I would have been 2 months ago but I was still bad. If I wouldn't have taken the meal of I would probably be at 169 today because I as 170 yesterday, no regrets. I don't set goals because I have found that I fall flat on my face. Maybe you should just plan that time when the party is going as your break. I don't drink anymore but I know that can play some real tricks on the scale for a few days.

I have the same problem as Enygirl. If I said goals I end up failing and get discouraged. The closest I come to a goal is having it off by Christmas.

Good news. I am down to 171 this morning. That was such a nice surprise. I am hoping to be down to 169 by Friday because that was where I was before Christmas.

LOL! DH was really irritated with me because I used to say Splenda was alright and now I am telling him NO, you shouldn't have it. I said if I knew what I know now I wouldn't tell you it was alright. I told him it takes research to figure things out and I didn't research things before.

Then I was telling him what I have been eating and he looked at me this weekend and said "Your going to become a vegetarian aren't you", I told him no. He freaks at thought because he is a big meat eater. I said I will still eat meat just not as much as I used to because I don't feel its necessary.

I did get him to try Falafel, he said its alright but our DD loves it like I do. So I may make it during the week for us. He claimed it was either the Larabar or the Falafel that gave him gas. Well it could have been but it could have also been the sausage he ate for breakfast or the 4 bottles of pop he drank. He has a bad habit of always blaming me for him being gassy. I am not sure who he blames when he is out of town but it can be a bit irritating.

I feel bad but I don't think I am going to Curves anymore. The facility is crowded with equipment, some of the regulars are rude, its hard finding the time and I just don't enjoy it anymore, the last being the biggest reason. I canceled my girls off because they haven't been using theirs and I will let my membership go to the end (June) so if I change my mind I don't have to pay for the membership again. I feel like a big weight has been lifted. I am going to chalk the lost money as a lesson learned. Home exercise is the easiest for me and is something I will stick with. I had a great routine all set up until I joined Curves so I just have to get that going again. I actual exercised more before Curves than I do now. Go figure. LOL!

OK, break time is over and I need to get some work done.

GrammyL 02-25-2008 01:46 PM

Irish ~ Is there a way you can block his vent? I know its cold where you are and it would probably create other issues but you can't have him getting sick. The other option is to talk to the landlord and tell him somehow smoke is getting in your sons bedroom and would like him to take a look at it. Put it back on the landlord.

DH broke the news to his Mom yesterday that the reason we don't come over is because we don't smoke anymore and the smell comes home with us. She sounded irritated but I get all stuffed up and icky feeling when I am around it now. I think that is why I used to get colds and had choking attacks when I did smoke.

Can you tell I don't want to work.

zenor77 02-25-2008 03:03 PM

Hey Lara~ Just tell DH what I tell mine, "Well, now you know your colon works." Lol. Healthy food will do that sometimes, but your body will get used to it. Besides it's not the gassy person that suffers, it's the person in bed next to them that has to smell it that does! Lol. Okay, that was probably TMI, but um, hey, I don't hold back.

I've been looking for that recipe and I can't find it. I think I might have made it out of a library book. I'm going to the library today, so I'll look.

Congrats on being down to 171!!! You'll be in the 160's in no time!

Irish~ I agree with Lara, complain to the land lord! We have a house of college students next to us and we smell it every so often too, but we don't have a little one that would get sick from it, so we don't complain. Maybe there is something they can do about the vents to stop it from wafting into your place?

I'm an animal lover too. I hope everything works out okay with your cat!

GrammyL 02-25-2008 03:28 PM

:lol3:Zenor gave my belly laugh for the day:lol3: The sad news is he suffers also because it smells so bad he can't stand it. I told him he always gets gas because he is eating real food when he is at home. The truth be told, I know he has it all the time, he always has.

I am excited at how fast the weight is coming off. All I did was get rid of the junk and start eating healthy calories. I think Splenda was my biggest problem and I am so glad its gone. The odd thing is Agave and honey have calories in them but yet eating them I am losing. Must be their calories are not so bad after all. Now I am not saying I would go on a honey binge but at this point I don't have any cravings.

The LaraBars were also a great find because I love them. I usually have one a day with a couple of cheese sticks. DH didn't care for them but I like dates and I am not so sure he does. I warned him that they had lots of dates in them and I think that is where his gas problem came from. I was joking with my parents at dinner last night that LaraBars were made just for me because they have my name on them. LOL! They sure do taste good to me.

Tinky009 02-25-2008 06:44 PM

Hey all......I had a pretty great weekend. I was pretty good for the most part. LOL! DF was about to present my ring to me on our favorite "beach" but it was too darn cold. I was shivering, my teeth were chattering. He said I looked too miserable to receive his ring. LOL so I guess we gotta wait for the right time. I suggested that we go earlier when the sun was out and beautiful, but he wanted to see the sunset, we made it after it. MEN....not very good at planning.

I started my mostly vegetarian diet today. I just feel so darn heavy eating meat. It makes me bloated too.

GrammyL- I thought of you when I bought some Boca Chicken patties. They're pretty good. I used to eat vegetarian and it was a pretty good lifestyle. I will incorporate meat here and there, but I want to focus on a healthier eating.

Irish- I'm sorry you're having a bad day! But congrats on being at 184~ You and Grammy L are both just rocking!!

Well...I will be here later, gotta log my calories!

irishfairy 02-25-2008 08:28 PM

well the sad news is my kitty had to be put down...he had diabetes so bad he would have needed his legs amputated and would have gone blind he was in a lot of pain. Now I just have to stop myself from emotional eating. :'(

irishfairy 02-25-2008 08:30 PM

Tinky: lol my husband proposed on valentines day at the beach in a gazebo...sounds romantic if it wasn't 20 below (celsius) with 60 mph winds. my tears froze to my face!! it was still the best day of my life though (next to my son being born and my wedding) CONGRATS!!!!
