How long after you wake up should we eat breakfast?
I had a half of a bananna today @ 10:15 am, but woke up @ 7 :30ish
Okay, so that's not really breakfast, but I am getting closer!!
How long after you wake up should you have breakfast?
LOL - I soooo relate to your post. After a lifetime of not eating breakfast, and being thoroughly convinced that breakfast actually made me sick, I am now a confirmed, card-carrying breakfast eater.
What worked for me:
~ Like you, starting with a morning snack and working it in earlier and earlier in the day
~ Like you, eat something light, that I like, and that sits "well" on my stomach
~ Exercising in the morning. For some reason, after I exercise, I can eat breakfast.
~ Get up a bit earlier - I get up at 5:30. I do my Bible study, drink a cup of coffee or tea, and then I exercise at 6:15. By 7:00 I am ready for a light breakfast. I also try to have a snack at 9-9:30 ish.
I don't think there is a "right" answer to your question, but I do think you should try to eat within an hour or so of getting up. After a long fast, your body needs fuel to give it a good start to the day.
I usually have breakfast within an hour to 1.5 hrs of waking up - but I normally wake up starving and breakfast is my all time favorite meal!
Mon, wed and friday I have a delayed breakfast because I'm up at 5:30 - run to boot camp which starts at 6, finishes at 7 and then come home again so it's more like 2 to 2.5 hours after waking. The exercise helps suppress the hunger though on these days I have noticed.
Every other morning I am up by 6:30 and usually go for a run - otherwise I'd eat as soon as I cracked my eyes open!
My nutritionist told me you should eat within an hour of being up - that being said I rarely do it. I LOVE breakfast foods - but what helps me is to eat non breakfast foods - like a turkey sandwich - if I'm not in the mood for breakfast.
I've found that it helps to have a light supper the night before. Then I wake up hungry...if I overate the night before, I usually still feel gross in the morning.
I get up at 6(ish, depending on how many times I hit snooze ) on weekdays, start with a piece of fruit, then a couple glasses of cold water while I'm getting ready. By about 7, my stomach is growling. Breakfast usually keeps my hunger manageable until lunch at 12.
I could never go without breakfast. I love it, and when I skip it, my day feels completely unbalanced.
If eating within half an hour of exercising helps keep your metabolism up, it makes sense that eating about half an hour to an hour after getting up would kick start your metabolism in the morning. Good luck!
I don't think it matters what time or how long but with that being said, I don't think it's good to make your body go more than 12 hours without eating. Keep the fire burning with frequent feedings.
I used to be a non-breakfast eater, but now I've adjusted so I'm starving in the morning and can't be without it. Not really sure how I made the adjustment - just started forcing myself to have at least something in the morning. I find it's easier if you can find a breakfast food you love. One of the best things for me when I was transitioning was a fruit smoothie. I have a little personal blender (it's made by Hamilton Beach, holds about 3 cups, and has a special top that you can drink out of - it was I think about $15 at Walmart) that I just toss a bunch of frozen fruit in, add a little juice and however much water is necessary to get it to blend, and within 2 minutes I have something that is sweet and refreshing but still fairly healthy.
Now, I tend to wake up at 7, shower, and make breakfast immediately after the shower, so I'm eating by 7:20 or so. My choices lately are more along the lines of cereal with almond milk and a side of chicken sausage, or a whole wheat english muffin with peanut butter and a banana, etc. Now that I got used to breakfast, I need the carbs to fill me up or I'm starving all morning!

I wake up around 6:30-I eat by 8:30 at work. Thank goodness work has a toaster oven. I keep the bread and butter there. As well as yogarts if I'd rather have yogart.
