Default teaspoons vs. tablespoons ... which is correct?

Help! I remember reading from one of my many diet/nutrition books I've read over the years, that one teaspoon is 1/3 of a tablespoon. A friend of mine recently said, no it's 4 teaspoons for one tablespoon. Which is accurate?

There are three teaspoons in a Tablespoon. Your friend may be thinking of a quarter cup being four Tablespoons.

Ahhh thanks guys! Actually, I found out that both answers are correct... it's 3 teaspoons for one tablespoon in the US, but in Australia, its 4 teaspoons for 1 tablespoon.

I think it's the tablespoon that's different, but I might well be wrong. When I emigrated from Australia to the US I had a devil of a time figuring out why all my baking recipes were no longer working properly.

A US pint is different from an Imperial pint too. 16oz (US) instead of 20oz (Imperial.)

I wonder why switching to metric never worked? I remember the government trying to switch in the 80's. Metric is so much easier (multiples of 10) and then this wouldn't be a problem. A ml is a ml.

do you find it odd that the only unit of measure that is uniform across the globe is time and that is base 6?

I never knew that tablespoons were different in Australia...is it just Oz or are there other places that use that?

ok this is what I found:
The British tablespoon is 17.7 ml while the American tablespoon is 14.2 ml. The Australian tablespoon is 20 ml and in most Canadian recipes the tablespoon is 15 ml. Other sites say that the Brit tablespoon is 15 like canada.

Teaspoons are apparently 5 ml everywhere....more or less.
