Quick! I need a lunch idea.
I didn't bring my lunch today but live only 2 -3 blocks away from a Jewel, a Whole Foods & a Trader Todd's. (The perks of living and working in a big city.)
Because I'm at work I obviously can't cook anything I buy. I do, however, have access to a microwave and toaster. Any ideas on what I should pick up? |
microwaveable soup
nutrition stats are on the container & you can heat it in it, too |
A 3 ounce package of tuna, single serving package of crackers of some kind, and piece of fruit of whatever looks good to you. Maybe grab some veggies if they have them pre-cut up for you.

Trader Joes has great ready-made salads in the fefridgerated case. Also, instant Indian food and instant brown rice bowls that you can microwave. The Bengal lentils are my favorite.

Thanks!
I forgot to mention that salads are a no-no for me while I'm on coumadin (blood thinner). I went to jewel and got a packet of tuna creations and a tortilla. So good!! Then I had a serving of blueberries. (Your suggestion sounded good to me tealeaf.) I'm up for more suggestions, though. There are plenty of days when I need a lunch. |
No salads?! What's up with that? Can you have cooked veggies?
|
I have factor 5 leiden gene mutation. Basically, I'm the opposite of a hemophiliac. My blood clots faster than the average person. Green vegetables have lots of Vitamin K. Vitamin K causes your blood to clot more. I'm currently taking blood thinner because I have a massive blood clot in my brain. (I know, scary.) Anyway, I have to keep my blood thiness level theraputic and if I eat too many green veggies it will throw it out of wack.

Wow, that is brutal and scary! My sympathies!
There are non-green salad options. You could make a lovely salad with bulgar and lots of tomatoes and feta cheese and a few olives. Or a roasted non-green veggie salad. But I don't know if they sell those things at Trader Joes. :) |
Yikes! I have no idea how I would deal with having something like that. I lurve me some green stuff! But it sounds like you know exactly what you are doing. I'm sorry you have to deal with this, but glad that sound like you are dealing with it wisely.
I'm also glad you liked my suggestion. Pouch packaged tuna is pretty diet friendly, tasty, and good for you. I always keep alot around. And fruit is always a good idea! I live in mid Missouri, in a pretty rural area so I don't have access to/knowlege of the stores you mention. I get most of my food from either Shop N Save or Walmart. So my suggestions might be somewhat limited. One thing you might want to do is go to the deli, get 3 oz or so of sliced turkey or lean ham, a slice of lowfat cheese, and some olives and make yourself a little antipasto plate. Check out the frozen food section, some of the 300 calories or less frozen meals are pretty good. Go to the cheese section, get some lauging cow light, two or three servings of fruit, and go nuts with that (guilty of doing that myself, alot). See if any of the stores sell packaged fruit and yogurt smoothies. Get some refried beans, torilla, and salsa and make yourself a burrito. I confess, when I walk into a store, my problem isn't "What in the world should I eat?" but rather "There's so many things in the world to eat, where do I start?" |
