I have hit a stop... now what?

  • Me and hubby both have come to s screeching halt on weight loss.

I eat about 1200 - 1500 cals a day... i know it aint healthy to drop below that 1200... so now what... just exersice more? ... i have such a long way to go to stop now!.....HELP!
  • How long have you been at your plateau?
  • i think about 2 weeks.... i know its not long... but i really want to loose, even if it is justa little aweek ... also ive still not had my TOM, it is so messed up , i really think that is the problem...

But what if it isnt.... i dont want to eat less then 1200... i wouldnt have a problem going under... just i dont want to get sick!
  • Well you said that you eat between 1200 and 1500. Maybe you should try just 1300 for a couple of weeks.

And how much exercise are you currently doing? What TYPES of foods are you eating? Protein? Fiber? Carbs?
  • i would try staying at 1300 like rockinrobin said and maybe mix up the exercise a bit. i think sometimes your body can get used to what you do everyday. good luck to you and hubby
    adah
  • Ooooh there's so many things you can tweak. Calories, fats, protein, the kinds of carbs you're eating, even when and how often you eat, exercise times or intensity ... But I'm thinkin' you should patiently wait out the period thing. Keep doing what you have been doing and be patient.
  • I would say just be patient. Plateaus can be really frustrating, but are a normal part of the process. If you do really know that you are eating within a certain range (do you write everything down?) and had been losing at a regular clip, the scale should move soon.

Remember the scale doesn't just measure the fat you want to lose but ALL of you -- fat, muscle, skin, bone, hair, water, etc.... if you lose a pound of fat but are retaining a pound of water (which can happen for a variety of reasons) how would you know? You won't! So, be patient. Weight loss requires it, unfortunately....
  • 1. Be patient. The more you lose, the slower it becomes. It is very common for the last 5 pounds to take months to come off!

2.) Exercise more, OR increase the intensity of your workouts. If you walk for 20 minutes on the treadmill, start doing 30. If you do a video with 3 pound weights, start using 5 pound weights. If you use an exercise bike-then increase your time, or the intensity a bit. If you are doing Walk Away The Pounds 2 mile dvd, buy the 3 mile one. Whatever you are doing for exercise, you have to increase the time, or the intensity every so often if you want to see more improvement.

3.) If you are eating between 1200-1500 a day, count up your calories for 7 days, and divide it by 7. This is going to give you the average (per day). If your average is closer to 1500 a day, then try to get your average closer to 1300 instead.

4.) Cut the junk to 10% of your calories. 300 calories of junk (fat free pudding, 100 calorie packs, etc.) is equivalent to 1/4 of your diet if you eat 1200 a day. 300 doesn't sound like much, but when I look at some people's diets, it IS a lot percentage-wise, if they only eat 1200 a day. Cutting junk down to 10% makes a big difference. 120 calories for 1200, 150 calories a day for 1500, etc.

5.) Eat more produce. Eating more of your carbs in fruits and veggies, rather than breads, rice, etc. makes a big difference in a lot of people.

6.) Be patient. I know, I already said this, but it is important. It isn't uncommon for me, and many others here, to not lose a drop for 2-3 weeks, and then lose 2 or 3 pounds the very next week.
  • Also are you taking vitamins and omega supplements? If you are eating any "junk" food then that is alot less healthy vitamin filled foods in your diet.
