Just got back form the movies and ate a moderate amount of popcorn there...no butter but I am sure they cook it in oil. Does anyone know how many calories...I probably ate about the same amount that is in a bag of microwave popcorn (not the mini bag!)
I love it too, and no matter how many times I see the horrendous calorie count for the popcorn I still have to drown it in butter. Although, I can't even remember the last time I had movie popcorn. The theater is so expensive, and I'm so cheap.
The nice thing is that you can split a small with a date and come in at just 200 calories without butter....totally workable into a day, once in a while. Its not great for you, no, but its do-able.
Thanks for the quick response!
Well...I better hike extra long tomorrow morning to make up for it! Next time I am going to sneak in my own 99% fat free kind...only 220 calories for the whole bag!

Dont you just LOVE that...the kids and I LOVE popcorn....My youngest and I love the 99% fat free kettle corn and its nice to know if I pop a while bag and we share its not that much in calories!! i carry HUGE handbags, could easily sneak a bag of my stuff in a theater!!
Since in my wild and crazy youth, I use to work in a movie theater I thought I'd chime in. Not only is this stuff pretty high in calories, the fat used to pop this is SOLID!! It is tropical oils, palm, palm kernal, coconut oils.. etc. I don't remember what types exactly, but I do recall the oil being solid in a big 5 gallon can and having to heat up the element to get it shoved into the fat in order to draw it into the machine to pop the corn. After that, I never ate movie popcorn again. Just the thougt of those oils solidifying in my arteries was enough.
And this isn't even taking into consideration the butter (fake or not) that is put on top!
I used to work in a movie theater, too, just a few years ago. The oil we used was not solid, but it was still pretty gross. In addition to the oil in which the popcorn is popped, they also pop it with a big scoop of "flavoring salt," so even if you don't add any salt of your own, there's plenty of sodium waitin' in there for ya (unless you specifically ask them to pop you an unsalted batch, which then takes about 5-10 minutes of you hanging around while they pop a fresh batch).
